hey replying to an old comment i know, but if this only applies to a 92-99 lesabre, why does the video title say 96-05? i'm looking to find out how to do this job on a 2004 lesabre
Thank you for the video! I was given a quote to replace the 2 elbows for $300-$400. I found your video and replaced them in 2 1/2 hrs. I did have to fish out both broken pieces from inside, but it wasn't to bad. For those reading this be sure to replace both elbows with aluminum elbows. Do not go back with the plastic elbows. The aluminum elbows come in a kit and were only $8 at my local auto parts store. Thanks again!

Garage wanted to replace my thermostat, radiator and radiator hoses(that I had replaced 5 months ago) and the Coolant elbow. $600. I was sure the only problem was the coolant elbow which was visibly cracked. I found your video. Told the garage to take a hike and fixed it myself following your instructions. Cost me $12 and about three hours. Car is running perfectly now. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
+Martin Kidd That's the kind of story we love to hear! We're glad the video could help you out. For anyone else who might be doing this job, we carry the parts shown in the video on our website. you guys have already saved me tons of money by showing me how to work on my Buick. My Coolant Elbow gave out while on the highway today. I am going to fix it tomorrow. Thanks! you guys are awesome!
I came to this video because I'm getting ready to change plugs and wires on 2003 Lesabre (I thought it would provide me with views to accessing back 3 plugs... which it did) Upon watching the video it reminded me of when I had to change the friggin elbow on my 1988 LeSabre . Tear the whole top side of engine apart for that gd plastic elbow. If you're replacing it then use the metal version vs. plastic.
man i wanna thank you so much for the great video came home from work and replaced the plastic elbows took me about an hour and half to do this some shop wanted $275 to fix hell to tha noooooooooo! again thank you 2006 buick
+Rodericklove36 Thank you for the great reply. We love to empower our customers by showing you how-to perform your own auto repairs while installing our high quality auto parts. Have a great day! 1aauto.com
Thank you so much for the video, if there is one thing I would suggest, is that on videos, you give estimated job time or length of raw footage, due to speeding up of tedious parts to compress video length. Other than that I can't complain, I love you guys and what you do.
Thanks I had to replace water pump and the two elbows that runs threw the tensioner housing thanks for the video it was very helpful keep up the good work and thanks Again!! Saved me a lot of$$$$
Four bolts on newer models, longest bolt goes in bottom right, mark them as you take them out :P I don't think you have to pry, ras others have noted, replace both elbows. My upper one was broken just like this video and initially I thought I was going to have to take the head off, however be patient and realize they go in a ways and you can fish it out exactly as he showed.
I no NOTHING bout cars, as in I had 2 buy a complete set of tools 2day. 8.5hrs later...done! Pipe from the tensioner 2 the block, almost beat me. If there's ANY trick 2get it out, u should include it, a pry-bar didn't work. Nor did a maul. Don't use a maul, u'll just smash pieces of tensioner in2 ur eye & swear a lot...lol, eye's still good! Next time glasses! U don't want 2 no how I got it. Nearly didn't "waste" $ on hook tools, SO glad I did, NOT a waste. AMAZING 4 rubber pipes stuck 2 metal.
pretty sure you know this.. but.. just leave it it'll break down then get mulched by water pump, then get stuck in heater core, which will eventually be backflushed. no harm done.
Hi, everyone, your video is one of a kind. I love it. The only problem that I'm facing now is that "the piece won't come off, I stuck my finger inside the opening and accidentally I pushed the broken piece towards the inside". I been trying to stick my finger to feel if I can get the piece closed to the opening, but I can't feel it any more. I believe the damn piece is further inside the block. How can I go about and get the piece out of there. Will truly appreiciated. best
Great video! Thank you! I have to do this very job on my 1998 LeSabre. Question: did you have to remove the motor mount to get the serpentine belt out? Looks like you do have to do that on some 3800 applications.
When i bought my thats what i thought it was to because it leaks from that spot but its aluminum elbow its the replacement one already and the headgasket also is after market, what else could it be? Its leaking from that spot tho???
What happens if the small plastic ring in the broken elbow falls down in the intake? I was able to get the o-ring out but the rest of the plastic end fell down in.
The tip of the elbow which remains inside of the engine, isn't coming out, I can't see it either, is it possible that it melts so much that it goes through?
I just need the o rings or seals for the heater hoses that go into the tensioner…not the entire tensioner. Do you carry the o rings? I can’t find them on your page. Is it necessary to drain all of the coolant? Please help. Thx.
3:36 It is way easier to reach the coolant plug with the Air box off. Getting the splash pan back on was a huge pain in the ass. And the 7 mil tappers don't go back in so just bolt it
It shouldn't. it may cause an overheating situation or a loss of coolant. You may want to have the Freon level checked, and also see if there's power going to the AC compressor when the switch is turned on. Hope this helps you out.

Is that in the same spot for 2005 Buick

No problem. Glad to hear it helped you out. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393

Do you have to take all that apart to just replace the elbow?
Man thank you all very much cuz I sure didn't know how I was going to fix it I appreciate the video very very much thank you
pretty sure you know this.. but.. just leave it it'll break down then get mulched by water pump, then get stuck in heater core, which will eventually be backflushed. no harm done.
All that rust reminds me of when I lived in Iowa. Not now. No snow in Bama
I had my mechanic put a new water pump on my 2002 Buick Lesabre and he replaced the elbows with aluminum ones.
I wish you were in Atlanta because I need this job done now I hope
Do you happen to know what size the gaskets are for the metal pipes on the tensioner?

This appears to be the 3800 Series II, same as is in my 95 Pontiac, so the fix I'm about to do should go well.
Great video very helpful

Yes I had too. Jack the car up and take the right front tire off you will see everything from there.
I still cannot believe how easily gunk can build up from dexcool if you neglect it. May as well do a good flush when you do these.
When i bought my thats what i thought it was to because it leaks from that spot but its aluminum elbow its the replacement one already and the headgasket also is after market, what else could it be? Its leaking from that spot tho???
Could be the o ring on it
This is very informative but why would you use a plastic elbow again? It's just going to crack again. Use metal.
Do you have torque specs for the bolts for the bracket? Thx.
Should you use rtv on the elbows?
What happens if the small plastic ring in the broken elbow falls down in the intake? I was able to get the o-ring out but the rest of the plastic end fell down in.
Is it necessary to drain all of the coolant?
You guys rock.
The tip of the elbow which remains inside of the engine, isn't coming out, I can't see it either, is it possible that it melts so much that it goes through?
Helpful for sure
Thanks for the kind words. Glad to hear we could help you out. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
Can it be replaced with an aluminum one instead ?
What does the elbows do? Does it play it the same part as the ac not working correctly? Thank you
Thank you.
Where do we get the o rings for the heater hoses? Thx.

1996 Buick la Sarber replacing the antifreeze
Thanks dude!!
No problem. Thank you for watching. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
How do i remove the actual tensioner arm that the pulley is connected to? But not the whole coolant intake...
I think it's the bolt on the center of the wheel which allows you to twist downward and loosen the pulley
What kind of coolant?
you guys really should stock the doorman aluminum elbows..the plastic ones just get weak with enough heat cycles...other than that, excellent video
Thanks for watching Howard. We do carry those too. Here's a link them on our website. www.1aauto.com/heater-hose-elbow/i/1aemx00178

@@1AAuto got it back on the road today thanks to your video. I just had that one job to critique but otherwise very solid help
Is this part called the tip
The video says you stock the elbow and I looked for it and could not find it.
i would replace the Tensioner while your at it.
Could this cause the AC to stop working?
It shouldn't. it may cause an overheating situation or a loss of coolant. You may want to have the Freon level checked, and also see if there's power going to the AC compressor when the switch is turned on. Hope this helps you out.
Is there a way to just replace the elbow?
Looking at it
Thank you!!!!!!!
Thanks for watching.

Those elbows can be found in metal so you only have to do this job once and never again
