The lore of machina is a hidden one but one i will describe here At first there was machina sniper , soldier and defender , thanks to convington they were able to unite their powers to create machina force However , due to their lack of power they were at least somewhat destroyed ( as seen in machina armored unit ) and tossed away ( as seen later in the unauthorized reactivation ) In the meantime , whoever or whatever is creating the machinas created stronger machines Machina fortress , cannon , piecekeeper and gearframe Only to upgrade the strongest with machina megaform and metalcruncher But in the dark , an infected machine known as "unauthorized boot up device" reactivated machina soldier , corrupting its circuits and creating machina possesstockage ( as seen in reactivation ) The "other half" of the machina learned about this , creating machina irradiator for defense ( as seen in defence perimiter ) and air raider for launching assaults ( as seen in redeployment ) Possesstockage got stuck at a defense perimiter ( as seen in the artwork of perimiter ) and knew that as long as they didnt get sniper back , he could get a chance ( sniper + iradiator + perimiter = no attacks) Possess. ( somehow ) corrupted machina sniper , turning it into machina unclaspare , it was made not only to prevent perimiter to work but also to counter it totally ( by being able to be specialed when added and sending to gy ) Possesstockage and unclaspare having defeated iradiator they went off to find the last of their old companions to corrupt , machina defender Meanwhile machina citadel was created just in case and air raider prepared a frontline of fortresses ( as seen in redeployment ) to stop the 2 machines After corrupting defender into resavenger , the "darkmachinas" had the power to defeat the fortresses ( resavenger giving atk boost ) Though , with air raider and fortress' power upon destruction and of revival it was no easy task , they were almost lost until they decided to unite as one again , without convington to help Creating what i will call "machina preruinforce" ( you'll see why ) Preruinforce destroyed the fortress line and air raider with its power to split back into its pieces and reform instantly , it was too much for the machinas that had only one hope left , machina citadel Though the fight seemed almost won in advance for citadel as soon as preruinforce would have splitted even once , something changed Preruinforce didnt only defeated fortress , it absorbed a part of it , granting it power to come back even after death ( we need to think that the special summon requierements were monsters on the field at first ) The fight started between the two ( as seen in "machina overdrive ) and even if citadel was strong , it could not stand long Preruinforce won , absorbing a part of citadel too ( as seen in the art of 'machina ruinforce") Becoming machina ruinforce and developing ways to counter eventual future citadels ( negation during battle ) It had won . I love this story because its hidden and has quite the message , if they never tossed away the 3 og machinas , it never would have happened , now what will become metalcruncer pieceholder , canon and megaform ? i sure don't know but i hope you enjoyed reading this You're free to make a video out of this if you want , have a nice dayyy
After getting the structure deck, it's easy to see that machina soldier is actually pretty decent. It does pull out a machina on summon, and with all the searching the deck has, you can easily summon it and pull a citadel out of your hand onto the field. I run it at 2. If you use redeployment to search 2 machina monsters, you can easily pull that off.
You know what, I had completely overlooked that interaction with deployment. And being able to summon Citadel without having to revive it from grave first seems pretty nice. Might have to reconsider my stance on that. Thank you for sharing!
I don’t think you’d ever want to blow your normal summon on soldier. Wasn’t good in 2010, when this re-structure deck dropped, or now after we have the rest of the support. Just play irradiator or air raider, send citadel to the grave for any discard cost, and he will bring himself out. Save the normal summon for gearframe/unclasspare. You can even use gearframe to search unclasspare who then specials himself and proceeds to send to grave whatever you want (ruinforce or citadel probly best targets) so 1 gearframe can lead to a rank 4 or link monster while setting up grave. Way better than using the summon on soldier to get out cards that we can already get out easily without his effect.
@GoldenNovaYugioh The card should be called war of the machines and the effect would be. If you’re opponent controls a level 9 or higher machine special summon one Machina Citadel from your hand deck or graveyard. I think that would be ok support but it’s probably only good against machine decks

It is also possible to use Sniper with Machina Defense Perimeter (while having a level 7 or higher machine on the field) for an attack lock ala Marauding captain style. I know it´s not the most powerful strategy nowadays, but it´s useful to know it.
Point taken. I agree, unless something comes along that changes things, Sniper isn't gonna make it into my lineup, but it IS possible, so it's at least worth keeping in mind.
I have been playing machinas since the first trial deck. I bought 3 of the deck from my friend's card shop and just went to town. It was all I played till I took a break from Yugioh, and now that I am back, I am rocking an updated version of the deck. It is so exciting to see all the combos we can make now.
I’m really enjoying running a Machina/Dreadnought XYZ deck on Master Duel. Ideally I want Gearframe, Cannon and then 3 other high level Machina’s in my hand so I can drop 2 in the grave for Cannon, summon Gearframe, add the Unclasper to hand, drop Ruinforce in the grave, banish to Summon and equip with Gearframe. Then I’d set the Overdrive trap and pop it on my unclasper during op’s turn to special summon citadel. I love that combo so much
I'm building a machina/karakuri synchro deck rn, since now regulus is out and auroradon is unbanned. It's really delightful to see all these old cards come together to make something beautiful (read: baronne, regulus, and shenshen)

Machina Force was played in some Machina decks in 1 copy as searchable by Gearframe pseudo-Monster Reborn for Fortress. Not really a big thing, and later got replaced by Cannon/better things, but I guess it's worth noting.
I would like to play devil's advocate in defense of Soldier for it to move from bad to meh because it is useful if you have no other monsters on board so you can cheese out a bigger Machina without discarding. Other then that I agree with Sniper, Defender, Force and Covington being bad only reason people used Force and the rest was because of Phantom of Chaos would help with the otk.
One thing I can see being useful is if you can manage to get a Machina force out, (which is very resource intensive) you can use the effect of citadel to destroy machina force, and with its 4600 attack, can be a good way to clear a field of very high attack monsters if needed. Just my thought/opinion
That makes sense, even Citadel can't get over everything. And if they make some kind of retrain/alternate way to summon Force, it's important to keep in mind. Thanks for sharing!
@@GoldenNovaYugioh no problem. Mainly a nice thing is Machina Defender has a flip effect of being able to bring a Commander Covington to your hand. Also, Machina soldier's ability allows for you to double summon as if you control no monsters and normal summon him, you can special summon another machina monster from your hand. Machina sniper acts as a good defense with 1800 attack and its effect. So you can bring in solider, special summon sniper. Next turn set defender. Then, third turn, flip defender, bring commander Covington to hand. Then, as you haven't normal summoned. You can bring out commander. Activate effect to bring out machina force. (This is ideal/perfect set up that can be hard to get)
I play perimeter since right on turn 1 I’m already getting a card back typically through irradiator. Then on opponents turn thru either citadel or air raider, which helps out alot. You can also do the thing you said with megaform+irraditor (my fav targets with redeployment) and end up with 2 citadels (1 from grave and 1 from deck) if you happen to either discard the 1 citadel, or send him with unclasspare. Then there’s ruinforce, who's special summon isn’t once per turn, so you could use him to make other extra deck monsters and then summon him back again.
With citadel even if you do not destroy your monster for any reason, it being a union or an effect that prevent deattuction you can still destroy all your opponent monsters

Back in university some friends and I bought structure decks on a whim on one of our spare weekends and just played casually out of the box. The original Machina deck was the one I bought, and it was impossible to not play Commander Covington without saying its name like a stuffy British WW2 army officer with a giant moustache.
Is it possibly true when machina citadel has machina gearframe in union does it prevent it from getting destroyed by using citadel effect? If so thats pretty good
Yeah, while I was getting footage for the Machina Field Test video, I was able to confirm that it does work that way! If Citadel targets itself and it has a Union monster equipped, the union monster will explode, and you still get to blast your opponent's monsters! (Side Note: This worked on YGOPRO, and while I trust that the coders have a strong sense of game rulings, it is technically a 3rd party system, so please consult with a local judge to confirm before proceeding to melt your opponent's face off.)
in a pure machina deck running 2 soldier is almost a must, the hands can become cloggy. discarding 1 to summon one isn't always ideal. i run 2 soldiers, if i dont see one first hand i will always summon one through Urgent schedule and use it as xyz material or just for an attack block. if you dont see it right away you basically want to try and get them out of your deck fast so you dont top deck them.
Imagine if Commander Covington got a retrain: Machina General Covington Attribute: EARTH Type: Machine Level: 4 Atk: 1600 Def: 1200 Effect1: This card is always considered “Commander Covington”. Effect2: OPT: Special Summon 1 “Machina” Machine Monster from your hand or GY. Effect3: OPT: If you control only “Machina” monsters, tribute 3 “Machina” Monsters to Special Summon “Machina Force” from your hand/deck/GY. Thoughts?
I just came up with an idea but it would take some work unless there is a way to make it easy. If u can special summon sniper and have fortress on field with the spell card Machina defense perimeter, your monsters should be untargetable for attack. 😂

The Machina structure deck is a pretty good place to start, though it is a little peculiar with how it handles destruction effects. I would recommend brushing up on rulings for these card, and Problem Solving Card Text as a whole. I'm not sure if it came up in suggested for you, but my Field Test video on them has gameplay you can review to see how it operates in practice. For upgrades, MBT Yu-Gi-Oh has a Trains Machina build that is pretty powerful, so check that out when you're ready to upgrade! If you last played during Mid-pendulum, I'd also recommend the Shaddoll Showdown structure deck if you ever enjoyed that theme. I hope these help! I would've liked to learn more about Soldier, Sniper, Defender, Force, and Covington other than just "they're bad." I mean this is suppose to be about the Machina Archetype and, for better or for worse, they're part of it.
U did not do machina reployment which is the card that adds machina monsters or cards to your hand then normal someone gear frame special somon poestorage to revive a machina in your grave and special somon sniper use its effect to protect the other machinas and finally equip gear frame to sniper
If Peacekeeper is blown up while attached to Citadel, it triggers Supply Squad correct? I'm thinking of running Peacekeeper since it can search another of itself upon destruction to reattach to Citadel after it's quick effect is used to nuke the opponents board while keeping Citty safe.
Oh boy, this is some sticky rulings right here xD So, to my understanding, while equipped to a monster, Peacekeeper isn't actually treated as a Monster, but as an Equip Spell. So since Supply Squad checks to see if a monster you control is destroyed, it wouldn't trigger the draw, because when you controlled it at that time, Peacekeeper was a spell. But Peacekeeper's effect to search a Union does trigger, because it only cares about being a card on the field when destroyed. I hope this helps!
If you use dimension guardian on citadel then use its effect, (Activate citadel then target citadel and chain dimension guardian) you can still blow up all ur opponents cards and keep Citadel on field for next turn. 😂 it’s diabolical and I love Machinas.
I just wanted to mention there now is a dark Defender, "Machina Resavenger", both it and Possesstorage show a dark sniper in the background. My Theory is that Unauthorized Bootup Device is reactivating the old units who are in storage, colminating in a dark version of force.

What I was told about citadels effect is that targeting is the cost for the effect. As long as you target something successfully you still get the effect even if the target isn't destroyed.

you can use machina soilders effect to summon machina citital on if you draw them both on the first turn lmao
in a pure machina deck running 2 soldier is almost a must, the hands can become cloggy. discarding 1 to summon one isn't always ideal. i run 2 soldiers, if i dont see one first hand i will always summon one through Urgent schedule and use it as xyz material or just for an attack block. if you dont see it right away you basically want to try and get them out of your deck fast so you dont top deck them.

I just came up with an idea but it would take some work unless there is a way to make it easy. If u can special summon sniper and have fortress on field with the spell card Machina defense perimeter, your monsters should be untargetable for attack. 😂

The Machina structure deck is a pretty good place to start, though it is a little peculiar with how it handles destruction effects. I would recommend brushing up on rulings for these card, and Problem Solving Card Text as a whole. I'm not sure if it came up in suggested for you, but my Field Test video on them has gameplay you can review to see how it operates in practice.
For upgrades, MBT Yu-Gi-Oh has a Trains Machina build that is pretty powerful, so check that out when you're ready to upgrade!
If you last played during Mid-pendulum, I'd also recommend the Shaddoll Showdown structure deck if you ever enjoyed that theme.

I would've liked to learn more about Soldier, Sniper, Defender, Force, and Covington other than just "they're bad." I mean this is suppose to be about the Machina Archetype and, for better or for worse, they're part of it.

U did not do machina reployment which is the card that adds machina monsters or cards to your hand then normal someone gear frame special somon poestorage to revive a machina in your grave and special somon sniper use its effect to protect the other machinas and finally equip gear frame to sniper
If Peacekeeper is blown up while attached to Citadel, it triggers Supply Squad correct? I'm thinking of running Peacekeeper since it can search another of itself upon destruction to reattach to Citadel after it's quick effect is used to nuke the opponents board while keeping Citty safe.

So, to my understanding, while equipped to a monster, Peacekeeper isn't actually treated as a Monster, but as an Equip Spell. So since Supply Squad checks to see if a monster you control is destroyed, it wouldn't trigger the draw, because when you controlled it at that time, Peacekeeper was a spell. But Peacekeeper's effect to search a Union does trigger, because it only cares about being a card on the field when destroyed.

If you use dimension guardian on citadel then use its effect, (Activate citadel then target citadel and chain dimension guardian) you can still blow up all ur opponents cards and keep Citadel on field for next turn. 😂 it’s diabolical and I love Machinas.
I just wanted to mention there now is a dark Defender, "Machina Resavenger", both it and Possesstorage show a dark sniper in the background.
My Theory is that Unauthorized Bootup Device is reactivating the old units who are in storage, colminating in a dark version of force.

What I was told about citadels effect is that targeting is the cost for the effect. As long as you target something successfully you still get the effect even if the target isn't destroyed.
