Thought I pin your comment as well so it doesn't get buried. To everyone else this is no longer the OVERALL world record. However I can claim it to be the world record for the original Playstation 2 platform (until someone beats it using an original Playstation 2 and controller). Pafi used an emulator which falls under a different category however it doesn't change the fact that without loads his time is faster (excluding loads enetering/exiting buildings and before/after cutscenes because they're hard to pin point when you gain control of Rynn). So in short, this video will maintain a world record standing in it's own category alone. While Pafi will retain the Overall world record and the world record in the emulator category for this game. See link above or in description for Pafi's run.
I just learned about speed running two months ago. Drakan has been my favorite game since I was 12. I'm so thrilled to see a speed run of it. You did an awesome job and this is making me want to start speed running this game!
Great Gulgrin's Sack! I never thought I'd see you here, welcome to the channel. 😃 With what I've learned since this run, I might be able to beat this game in under 20 minutes even on an original PS2. I plan on doing so sometime near or during the winter. Things just keep getting crazier for this game and I'm absolutely loving it.
I was just thinking about playing this game again and decided to look at videos of others playing it. Man, that was fast, in the time it took you to finish the entire game, I would not even be in the Shadowmire yet as I am the kind of player that runs from the main story to do all the side quests, find every secret, kill every enemy, etc. Yeah, I think I need to play this game again. Glad I still have my PS2.
I'm the same! If you do all the side quests before shadowmire you can just barely afford the best sword in that area and halfway through shadowmire after leveling up you can use it! Loved this game so much.
I started laughing at the sight of the fast-running technique, and I continued to laugh throughout the entire video. This is my new favorite YT video I'm going to watch it all the time now roflmao
Excellent run, and congratulations on the time! Love this game. I'm not a speed runner, but I am DEFINITELY utilizing your method for the Shadowmire swamp portion the next time I play - I hate that place. Faster I can get through it, the better. ;)
Fun thing about how this game functions. If you have it installed on PS2's internal hard drive using either HDL or Winhiip and play it via OPL or HDL, all of the load screens other than the area transition and starting a new game disappear completely. Most PS2 games load stuff at very specific spots and this one loads it more like a PC open world game with periodic loads whenever needed. When this game runs from HDD (even or the real console) the background loading is so efficient the load screens never show.
I honestly didn't think I'd find a run of this post 2018, I figured this would be way prior to 2018. Was trying to find the Drakan game I played, I assume this is the one I played when I was super young... The problem is that I only remember somehow riding the dragon, also I couldn't continue the game much past a certain point because it wanted me to save in order to continue, I had no memory card lol.
This is a speed run and skips many, many parts of the game. There is much riding and combat of this dragon in the entire story. There's a crazy amount of secret, side quests in this game too!
I'm certain, I remember the mirelurk type creatures. The only problem is the game wouldn't let me progress without a memory card and the parts of the game he skips is probably the parts that I played most because I couldn't play without a memory card. #povertyinafirstworldcountry
Tilearian Yep so you would have finished the swamp getting the relic under that tree, unlocked flying with Arokh, and been unable to go to the Island in act 2 with Mezzedril as that requires a save. I do believe there was a side quest in the monastery you could do before the island, could even walk there without Arokh, just took a damn long time.
After looking at PafiSC's run, over on Twitch. I noticed that the load screens took less time to load then the ones in my run. Is that the case when you played this game on an emulator instead of on the original console? If that is the case, then if you were to do this on an emulator, then you would have to add about 3 minutes and 10 seconds to your time if you want to convert to PlayStation 2 load screen times. So if I was using the same emulator or platform that PafiSC used, then my time would have been around 24:13.00. That would enable players to complete this game almost as fast as the Drakan: The Order of the Flame. Fascinating!
Glad to see that I'm not the only one running Drakan games. Sick run btw! Load times on PS2 are quite a bit longer than on emulator. For this reason load times should be removed from the final time to make it fair for everyone. Speedrun.com just accepted Drakan: TAG into their selection. If you have any interest in leaderboards, you should definitely submit this run!
@@jasoya_gaming Load times can be drastically shortened on the PS2 Emulator, with the latest version, a fairly quick CPU and the right settings, currently it runs like a dream for me with the following setup: PCSX2 v1.5.0 -dev-3026 | GSdx 20190405.. Video Plugin @OpenGL hardware - 2K internal res. No filtering no hacks, Date and Blending should be set to what your CPU/GPU can handle. Emu settings: EE Cycle Rate at 130%, else game gets extreme occasional freezes and stutters! Micro VU hacks off, fast CD load disabled (doesn't speed load times anyway) NO game fixes, NO widescreen patches etc...
@@VertexDon Thanks if I do challenge Pafi's run it would have to be on an emulator. There's no way my PS2 can compete. I replaced my old computer with a predator so I should be able to do this. Thanks for the info. I'll try to mimic this setup.
I've been working on this route off and on. Glitch Tutorials got me tied right now, but I can definitely attest that it's definitely viable especially with Flight Dashing. Will be debuting it later once when I am able to combine livesplit to my recordings.
I remember being infatuated with this game when I was like 14... I put hours into it making my character super strong... I reloaded a game about 20hrs into it and fell through the floor, into a late part of the game! Whenever I loaded it would just bring me back through the floor... probably a GODLY speed runner trick that is lost to time. I never played it again.
That's just the game taking a while to load when attempting to skip the cutscene. It's not too uncommon when playing on the PS2, samething happened at 17:12 in the video, though I could still move Arokh.
Watching this, i realize I don't think I've played the game in the order its supposed to be played at all. Unless this is a speed run of the most important parts, he missed a lot of areas/locations.
In my opinion, speedruns are fun, if you enjoy the adrenaline rush of being stuck on a clock with games that you care a lot about; otherwise it's a grueling hell. Since I've completed this game in it's entirety there's nothing else to do but explore more ways to play the game. I have to admit though, this speedrun gave me quite the rush. 😁👍
This is not the world record. th-cam.com/video/kuXMOV8l6w8/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Pafi Is the world record. Please change title
Title is tweaked as will the thumbnail be in do time.

Fries_ and_ Pies From those who inspired me, I'm glad to have inspired you. Good luck in the Speedrunning.
Excellent!
This was spectacularly and engagingly efficient.
I learned a few things!!
Thank you. Bravo.

Nice run! I love this game!
goog god this game took me ages when i had my ps2, never thought it was possible to beat in half an hour

Besides the turbo run, how about phantom roll into Kragmor, get Arokh early to skip Shadowmire and go straight for Valley of the Fallen?

28:30 What was that cut?

WOW
The bow propulsion system
27 min?? Impossible. The loadings only take 25
There’s no fun in a “speed run”. You miss out on the legendary items, side-quests, lore, etc.
In my opinion, speedruns are fun, if you enjoy the adrenaline rush of being stuck on a clock with games that you care a lot about; otherwise it's a grueling hell. Jasoya I bet! I didn’t think completing this game in 28 minutes was possible. It took me weeks as a kid LMFAO.
At 69likes I can only dislike
As five great run
Ты зверь.
