    I'm disappointed that I didn't get to see Queen Boomer react to Carl Pilkington doing the Attenborough voice-over!

    I'll tell you, I've been getting lucky at my local second hand store (Thrift store), 2 weeks back I found Benidorm complete series set on dvd, and The Inbetweeners complete series set, and now yesterday I picked up An Idiot Abroad triple series boxset!
    Brilliant reaction as always guys, keep em coming when you can! Please edit in to the next one the Karl Attenborough voiceover though, that is so hilarious!

    At 10,000 feet the air pressure is around 700 mb compared to around 1,000mb at sea level, so yes there is 30% less oxygen

  • @offal

    at 3,600m (just above Cusco), barometric pressure is around 480mmHg, and oxygen per breath is 40% less that at sea level!

  • @ChristopherStendeck
    @ChristopherStendeck ปีที่แล้ว +10

    From what I've read, oxygen intake per breath, due to the significant drop in barometric pressure, is actually 40% less there compared to sea level, so even worse than Karl was told. I'm sure he had a day or two to acclimatise. Also, I'm sure the Queen meant to say feet on every occasion that she said miles. 😅

  • @mikkdc
    @mikkdc ปีที่แล้ว +25

    It's true about the oxygen. In Cusco, oxygen per breath is actually 40% less than at sea level. Many 5 star hotels in that part of the world actually have oxygen pumped into the rooms and the lesser ones have it for sale as "oxy--shots", which is probably what was mentioned in this episode.

    Roosevelt went to the Panama canal building project because the morale was low and the job was going really slow and loads of Americans were going over for a job and within a month they were returning and also telling other Americans not to go over even if they only earn a dollar a day ...and loads were getting getting disintary and constantly getting bit by mosquitoes

    Comedian Karl Pilkington has revealed that he was offered the chance to go on I'm A Celebrity. The Idiot Abroad star, who was currently promoting the second series of The Ricky Gervais Show, said that putting up with the other contestants was what put him off signing up for the reality show.

    I'm new to your channel KB, I've so far watched everything "Idiot abroad" up until now, Looking forward to watching you enjoy more, and from what I've seen of your channel, there's tones of stuff yet to come, I'm from the same place as KP, Not London as most people think, I'm from Sale in Manchester, I grew up in the same decade, I have the same outlooks as Karl, I used to not understand the popularity he garnered with non-Mancunians, but after a while, I understood it's because we're not usually given this lime-light, I knew Karl before he became a producer of XFM, we didn't get on, I remember calling him a Bell-end because he wouldn't help me up the stairs with a heavy parcel from Argos I was trying to deliver to him, told me I should have come with more than one person, I had to struggle for more than my jobs worth because he outright refused. He wasn't wrong though, I was supposed to have another person aiding me with heavy items, but afterwards he invited me into his flat and made me a cuppa, so I kinda let it slide as I was fuckin' gasping. Anyway, we ended up in Altrincham about a month later when he needed to pick up a sofa he'd bought, he mentioned he was moving away to work so I told him if he needed a hand I'd be willing to help, so I gave him my details, during the ride over there I found out his Auntie was married to one of my relatives and we started talking about how kids these days didn't know they were alive, I remember he told me a about the way we could all just go out and spend all day on the streets without a care in the world but now there's nothing but mollycoddling in this younger generation. We got on quite well despite our initial negative exchange, stayed in touch for a good few years but I was given the choice to move with family to a Seaside Holiday (Vacation) part of the country 400 miles away so I snapped up the opportunity, about 10 years passed and we fell out of communication, and then one day in the late 2000's I remember hearing about this baldy manc twat with a head like a fucking orange called Karl Pilkington. I was humbled to find out it was the same guy who made me lug a flat packed wardrobe up 3 flights of stairs my self a decade ago. It's so surreal seeing him go around the world like he did and becoming a star from just an average, run of the mill everyday Mancunian because he peaked the interest of Ricky Gervais when he was his producer on the show.

    Macchu Pichhu was worth the trip. And when you fly from Lima to Cuzco you go from sea level to 13000 and boy do you feel it. The wonder is around 7500 feet I think. You can handle the walk around there with relative ease. Loved my trip there...

  • @spacebace
    @spacebace ปีที่แล้ว +5

    At sea level (i.e. Lima, Peru) oxygen saturation in the air is about 21% and barometric pressure is around 760mmHg (millimetres of mercury).
    As one ascends oxygen saturation stays relatively constant but air density drops, which means the % of oxygen per breath reduces (imagine oxygen molecules moving further and further away from each other at higher altitudes).
    For examples, at 3,600m (just above Cusco), barometric pressure is around 480mmHg, and oxygen per breath is 40% less that at sea level!

  • @acquiescefc

    Did the trip a few years ago. Cusco is actually higher than MP altitude. Went to Puno which is even higher. I dont believe Karl didnt want to go to the site he was literally 10 minutes away i presume site was closed as it was late and its a secure place and you need to book in advance.

    • @Feuerbach1
      @Feuerbach1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Someone had the leaves once when I was in college, you make a little packet with them and some kind of basic (ph wise) paste to release the alkaloids, really quite pleasant compared to the manic feeling of powdered cocaine

    Think the Queen was getting mixed up between feet and miles from 41:00 onwards, 10000 miles up and you would be seeing satellites orbiting. 4000-5000 miles and you would be reaching the earths upper atmosphere.

  • @charlesfrancis6894
    @charlesfrancis6894 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I was at 9,000 ft while visiting the grand canyon and noticed it was a little harder to breath but became acclimatized after a short while but i assume there is a point when even becoming acclimatized does not work.

    • @Cheepchipsable
      @Cheepchipsable ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually it takes a long time to acclimatise as you body needs to make more blood cells to get mote oxygen from the atmosphere.
      Also there is a risk of altitude sickness, but I am not sure when that starts being a thing.

  • @trebornewo3354

    Trekking in the wilds really brings home how safe normal everyday life really is. I remember being on a group tour in Peru and we turned up to a village to camp for the night. The village had built a fenced compound for us because a pack of hungry wolves had come down from the mountains to prowl the village in the nights before our arrival (or was that a tale they tell all the "tourists" to add spice to their stop-over?).
    Also, we were advised against eating the local wildlife as their bodies could be riddled with internal & external parasites. Beans and rice it was then.

    • @Unethical.FandubsGames
      @Unethical.FandubsGames 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As to the parasites: This isn't a problem if you know which organs to remove and how well to cook the food. Dead parasites are just dead... but not everything cooks at the same rate and is therefore safer to remove parts, cook separate, or just discard. Tourists are considered to be idiots that don't know any better: So they just say "don't".

    You take a train from a nearby town to the base of the wonder. Then you take a bus up a hell of a road to the wonder. Then you walk around the wonder. It's not a helicopter. The 11 hour hike is not necessary. But a lot do it for the fun. People of all ages and sizes make it to Macchu Picchu. It's still a hell of an effort to get there but it's amazing.

    The summit of Mount Everest has around 6.9% Oxygen in the air. It varies depending on air pressure and temperature.
    You'll find races with good physical fitness were born and raised at high altitude. They would be able to compete in say for instance marathons for longer than someone who has lived at sea level all of their life because of a higher concentration of red blood cells to transport oxygenated blood around the body.
    Oh thanks made me yawn too 🤣 They're infectious. Btw can't wait to meet Baby Boomer, the nickname has got a ring to it lol.

    At 3000 metres or 10,000 feet you begin to get reduced oxygen,this is the limit for tree growth too. At 4000 metres/13,000 ft the effect is more extreme,fatigue disorientation and unconsciousness are common symptoms leading to a cerebral edima in extreme cases, known to mountaineers. Ascend slowly!✌️❤️🇬🇧
