With this movie, about 3 minutes into the opening scene, I no longer wanted to snack; the violence was so real and visceral, it felt disrespectful to eat while watching the depiction of all those young men dying, knowing it had all really happened. It was an intense way to start a movie experience.

I learned about less than half of these historical events. It isn't just where you would learn these events it's who will teach you these events. In middle school my English teacher taught me more history than my history teacher, don't know what that woman's been doing but she should've been fired for the lack of history teaching. She got away with it for as long as the school's existence. And I am glad I had some really interesting history teachers in high school. I got to learn about basically common knowledge and some other things that my social media friends were never taught.

Another thing about the internment camps: In 1942 George Takei and his family were sent to Santa Anita Park where they were forced to stay in converted horse stables before being sent to Rohwer War Relocation Center. Sometime later, his was later transferred to the Tule Lake War Relocation Center in California for internment.

I learned about the internment camps after I finished high school. Completely blew my mind that something like that could happen here. My family background is German and to my knowledge, my grandparents were spared going through this. Must have lived in smaller communities.
I live in Alberta and we learned about Japanese internment camps in grade 11. We even had one in my home city. It was terrible what our government did to justify ignorance and fear.
Where in Canada did you go to school? I am a Canadian and graduated high school in the late 80's and I was taught about about this. Some of my teachers went as far to say that the Europeans gave the First Nations blankets of people who died of various sicknesses in order to kill them off so they could easily invade. They didn't teach about how the huge numbers were killed in this way or that there were even large cities of the Indigenous peoples, but most talked about the cruelty of the Europeans. They were while they were often vilified in tv shows and movies and the Europeans were victimized by them, in actuality Europeans had mostly been welcomed until Europeans started killing them off in various ways. History has been white washed and we know only pieces of the truth since history is written by the victors

I've lived in New Orleans all my life, and I've never heard of this! Shows how much the school curriculum will only allow teachers to teach.

Most of these topics I didn't learn about until my college years (2019-present), because my uni includes a lot of historical events in curriculums, also I learn about historical events while on my travels to places around the world, also back in high school too.

Another thing about the internment camps: In 1942 George Takei and his family were sent to Santa Anita Park where they were forced to stay in converted horse stables before being sent to Rohwer War Relocation Center. Sometime later, his was later transferred to the Tule Lake War Relocation Center in California for internment.

I learned about the internment camps after I finished high school. Completely blew my mind that something like that could happen here. My family background is German and to my knowledge, my grandparents were spared going through this. Must have lived in smaller communities.
I live in Alberta and we learned about Japanese internment camps in grade 11. We even had one in my home city. It was terrible what our government did to justify ignorance and fear.

I only vaguely learned about the internment camps in school it not alot though I learned more by watching tv
Where in Canada did you go to school? I am a Canadian and graduated high school in the late 80's and I was taught about about this. Some of my teachers went as far to say that the Europeans gave the First Nations blankets of people who died of various sicknesses in order to kill them off so they could easily invade.
They didn't teach about how the huge numbers were killed in this way or that there were even large cities of the Indigenous peoples, but most talked about the cruelty of the Europeans. They were while they were often vilified in tv shows and movies and the Europeans were victimized by them, in actuality Europeans had mostly been welcomed until Europeans started killing them off in various ways.
History has been white washed and we know only pieces of the truth since history is written by the victors
