The scene when he takes his cigar out in this tongue is the most badass scene ever in cinema history. The fight scene in the sauna completely naked is the most visceral fight scene ever in cinema. This movie is a gem. Viggo is a legend.

A) Wasn't the CIA
B) The undercover agent clearly reported everything he was doing to his superiors, including showing his boss that he had gotten his Stars, meaning he had successfuly infiltrated the Russian mob.
C) Him becoming a boss was just a clever plan for the Russian boss to pin a murder on him, instead of his son.
D) Did you not watch the movie?
Well acktchuallly lol the intention wasn’t for him to become a boss, just a full fledged member of the vors to, like you said, pin the first murder on him instead of the boss’ son, who ordered soyka dead because he was telling everyone kiril was gay, which he is, him becoming a boss/partner with kiril was brought on because kirils dad tried to get him to kill a baby, which was much too far

The thumbnail is incorrect. I haven't watched the video yet so hopefully this person didn't completely misunderstand the movie. At the end he meets with his supervisors as they discuss the huge sting they just made and decide to leave him under cover because his new rank is like a local boss and perfect to infiltrate the entire operation.

If you have not seen this movie then you should know its one of the greatest mafia movies of all time . Its as close to perfect as can be.

1) He was a KGB/FSB agent NOT CIA
2) He was not the boss. Only enforcer and later captain when he got the stars. Anyway he remained loyal all the way, never went rogue as far the movie revealed

Eastern promises and A history of violence are gem of a movie that came around same time with brilliant acting by vigo by the help of great direction of David cronenberg . That naked fight in bathroom still look so real !

Incredible ensemble cast in a low key masterpiece.
Not the CIA. It was Scotland Yard working in tandem with the FSB who Vigo’s character was working undercover for.

There was some talk at one point that Cronenberg was going to make a third film on the nature of violence and it would be a trilogy. I hope so! There is one that just came out called Crimes of the Future that starts Viggo M again, but it is a futuristic horror film so I'm not sure that's what he meant.
I wouldn't say Scanners is that similar... It's a film made early in his career, and has a very different feel than these later films.

First I found out about the Russian mafia & their use of tattoos. Really interesting.
The main cop is the Stark family Maester on GOT
Its really interesting (and terrifying) how in Russian mob, called bratva - there isn’t a single boss. Its not like Italian mafia, there is a lot of cells that operate independently within their territories. If you have the “stars” you can start your own crew, join the rare meetings between the “bosses” of other crews etc. Usually only the “starred” man knows who works for him, but he doesn’t know who works for anyone else. They also learned to not go to war with each other, since its bad for business, mostly clean up disputes internally, bodies are rarely found.
Amazing movie but I question if you've ever watched it because your title is completely wrong. Nikolai is actually an undercover FSB agent working under license from the British government. The entire title of the video is off...

Um...yeah, thats the entire point of his job. Have you never heard of undercover cops infiltrating criminal organizations? The point is to get in, learn as much as you can, build cases against everyone, and take the whole organization down.

You're thinking of 'history of violence' with Viggo mortensen. Both directed by David cronenberg.
'American History x' is the neonazi film with Edward Norton. Pretty unknown director I think.
