  • Python locks are expensive! Keeping up with keys is a pain! I have devised an alternative to both that can help secure your trail cameras from would-be thieves. While it is not foolproof, it is cheap, easy, and will keep honest people honest.

i've been making these for a couple years now. similar anyway, but same idea. after accumulating close to a dozen python cable locks, i finally decided to make my own.
but i make my own lockboxes too. my stuff is to protect against bears, not people. but they'll also do the job with people.
i dip the crimped loops in liquid rubber, then spraypaint the rest of the cable.

It’s probably not necessary, but what could be used to get the cable to be black in color? Shrink wrap? Vinyl tubing?

That's a good idea. I usually hit mine with some spray paint to knock the shine off.
