I have to say, your accent is not something I'm used to hearing so I had to go back over several things you said a few times, but you definitely had my interest the whole way. Well done sir.
When i got the notification of this at work today, i was above eager to get home and watch it. So i built up some hype, and you did not let me down. Awesome build and the facts presented as you go along are just joy. Big thumbs up from me.
thanks, yeah I know exactly what you mean - personally I prefer to build small extremely detailed homes. I'm a loner by nature so I kinda always try to build my dream house somewhere far away from civilization. I started this whole castle thing because I thought people would find homes boring.
The level of care and detail you put into your builds is second to none, and the narration and commentary you provide is fantastic. The scope of this build, and the fact that it remains useful for game play and isn't a pure show-piece makes it even better. I've been looking forward to this build since you mentioned it in your last video. One question for you. How many times did you say to your self "OMG, if I have to place one more foundation block, I'm going to throw my computer out the window" I'm working on a similar concentric-castle-over-water build, and it's taken me days, as I just get tired of placing, destroying, then re-placing foundations.
Thanks, this is the best parts of every build - reading comments like your yours. Let me put it this way - at 4:22 when i say "a couple thousand clicks later" it was something like two hours of just placing foundation after foundation. In some places the water was like 6 blocks deep. This whole build almost drove me crazy, mostly because all the time I was thinking "oh for fu**'s sake it would be so easy If i was building this on land". Anyway, in total this project took almost 70 hours to complete. About 30 of it in game. Then there's the research, planning, reading, editing and recording voice over which is not an easy task for me since I'm not a native speaker. It feels strange to end up with just a half an hour long video after all this work. Basically what you see is me casually building a huge castle, where everything magically fits and works well while I talk about stuff. What you don't see is the 10 castles I've built earlier in various locations before I came up with the perfect design and place to build it. Yamatai castle was way nicer project - as the building went fast and easy once I figured out how to translate what I've seen or read about into game. Sure it also took at least 40-50 hours but a significant amount of it was research - reading books, going through photographs etc. This one, on the other hand, was really mind numbing - just clikcking and clicking and clicking but knowing that there will be some really cool things on top kept me going.
great video. I am genuinely impressed with your knowledge of architecture and history. your building is very aesthetically pleasing and also functional. you should have many many more subscribers! Thank you for your efforts!
This is such an amazing build! You managed to teach me lots about this type of castle and even a little bit of strategy, I’m gonna take inspiration from this as I begin to plan out a decorative yet functional base in official pvp
I'm trying to duplicate what you've done here and am having trouble figuring out how you did the ceilings over the beast pen and map room? I can't find any portion of your video that shows this. I'm also having trouble when using the Glass/Construction mod and the pillar offset as it doesn't seem to provide any support at the top of the column unless I put the column in the vanilla center position of a tile. Is this not supposed to be happening? I'd love to see a few more detailed views of those rooms and the inner gate house lower areas. Thanks for sharing this and I look forward to other videos you're making!
I sayed it a few times before, but again, outstanding work! Since i'm a builder myself your vids are a real treat for me to watch. I hope you will go on with what your doing! I know how much work you have to put in for these kind of builds. You even give us the historical backround as the cherry on the cake. You have my deepest respect! By the way, do you use Twitter? I share your awsome work there. :-)
Hi, I'm glad you're still watching my stuff and I hope this will inspire you to build something really cool. I don't use twitter, never really felt like I need to.
Hi, if you look at my quickbar there's an item in the third slot that looks like a grid. It's called pillar snappoint extension. To get it you will need to install a mod called "Glass constructions and more..." from Steam Workshop.
Hi a question, the arrow I see that helps you in the position and a Mod? if you tell me what is his name? also i am a builder and understand the right facade me useful Thank you
Oh yeah, this happens to me often as well. Try adjusting height (shift + mousewheel on pc) there's often a small sweetspot where the game will let you place them.
Keep up the awesome builds! Have you made any super-structures yet? I know it's a lot of clicking.... I am working on a castle with an outer wall of 7 foundation blocks height. It was because of terrain and ascetic choices and now I regret my decision. hahahah
Hey it's not so bad - everything in this video except for support beams and columns is just base game and dlcs. Also, just out of curiosity cause I don't own a console, weren't microsoft and sony supposed to add mod support to the consoles? I remember hearing something like that about fallout 4 or skyrim.
@@BmanBuilds Yeah, Falllout 4 and Skyrim on console does indeed support mods, so it's up to the developer to accommodate for it. It can easily break the game though. Beautiful build by the way! The work of a master, both in knowledge of the real world design and strategy behind a castle and in-game design!
@@gyllkrans That's great to hear, I hope this will become common practice in the future and everyone will be able to enjoy games to their full potential.
As a fellow console peasant, I was lamenting the use of mods as well. Glad to hear something like this is doable with base and dlc! I'm wanting to build a castle but wanted it to feel real. This definitely fit that description! Thank you!
Ferdinand and Isabella get a bad rap, but they had good reason for their fears, and the Spanish inquisition was not nearly as bad as the Protestant English propaganda would have us believe. In actuality, more people died of religious persecution in medieval England than in Spain.
thank you so much for the video, the build is very nice and the explanations are invaluable! I really liked the small a parte regarding the Albarrana tower. It made me google it and i learned a new fascinating thing! I would love to hear more on vaulted ceilings. That was one of the highlights in my opinion :-) Would you consider making something inspired by Moorish architecture? Seems like you don't dislike it and it would totally fit into the game or? Even small house like you can find them on the other side of the valley, facing Alhambra would be super inspirational! looking forward to your next episode! P.S. for any interested reader who couldn't acoustically resolve the part on vaults: Bman is using Sexpartite design: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexpartite_vault and here the wiki link to the tower design: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albarrana_tower
That's great to hear, well actually that's the reason I'm doing this - there are so many cool things scattered throughout the ages and among different cultures and I'm just trying to sneak some of them into something easily digestible like a gaming video. While studying history is a heartbreaking labour, admiring art and architecture of the past is what makes me believe in humanity - despite all the horrors of war and hatred, people were always capable of creating beauty, no matter where and when they lived. As for the Moorish and Islamic art in general - I always found it strangely calming, just looking at the designs, following its lines - the feeling is almost religious in nature but at the same time it inspires introspection. The aniconism instead of being a limiting factor simply pushed the Muslim artists to search for beauty in different places. I am very sorry for the confusion I've caused with the ceilings. One of these days I'm going to finally learn how to pronounce English correctly and I'm going to replace my microphone - I'm just using a simple gaming headset and the sound quality is definitely below average. To clear it all up - in my commentary I've mentioned barrel vaults - the simplest form of vaulted ceiling and the rib vaults. These have two variations - the sexpartite and it's very similar, evolved variant - the quadripartite rib vault. Now I realize that I'm actually using a lot of technical terms and I promise that from now on I'll try to write them on the screen as well. Also I do apologize If I sound like a snob or elitist - that is not my intention, I probably should stop reading so much and get out more (In case you're wondering - yes, I speak like that in real life and my friends are always having a laugh when I comment on some obscure architectural feature of some building we pass). Mea culpa.
Don't worry too much about your accent! In my opinion its just fine. You're easier to understand than some native English people and their weird accent (have you already talked to some people from Scotland and/or Liverpool? i literally don't understand a single word). I think the problem is that English pronunciation is just completely random (take the letter i, e or even a as an example) that's why its difficult, especially for technical terms, to derive the orthography based on pronunciation. If its not too much work, then it would be a great help if you write the technical terms on screen, but don't bother too much. Maybe you could give that as a task to your motivated viewers!
@@skl8em950 Actually I have talked a lot to Scottish people - I lived in Glasgow for a year. It was fun. I honestly fell in love with that city and, despite all the warnings I've been given, I really enjoyed haggis but yeah, even after a year I sometimes had a very hard time understanding what people were saying.
I love seeing how you build and getting to learn the history and concepts behind it all. Thank you for sharing it with us!

Do you have the coordinates of where it's built please amazing build

Amazing castle. I have a doubt, what do you use to put the pillars? (min 13:19)

How did you get the map room and animal pen to sit mine says not aligned enough with ground ??

Which mods let you snap the pillars to walls and ceiling edges? I tried the arena pier mod and it still doesn't work.

Thanks! The biggest one I've built would be either this one or helm's deep. That's basically my limit - my pc can't handle anything larger.
What would be the /heatmap piece count for this?
I have no idea as I never checked and I can't do it now as I've lost that save, sorry.
Who knew 15 years after college I would be going back to school again. If you're not already a teacher, you definitely should be!
That's really kind of you to say. I'm not a teacher, never even considered it.
