Receiver on top is definitely killing the look. Maybe the side speakers being centred above the subs on the black tile would look better, seems too close to the tv?

Here is the part that most people miss. I didn't talk about it in the video. There are very, very few A/V specific cabinets that look decent or are the correct size. The cabinet company we used was semi-custom, so I knew we wouldn't be able to pick the depth. Getting something custom made would cost a boatload, and I didn't have the time to get one done. I went with the sure thing and put the rather good look 778 on top. I think it's a decent concession.

The AV and entertainment were Matt doing what he can with the allowed budget. He specifically addresses that this stuff is not as important to Adam and Colette. The budget isn't unlimited and there are always compromises in projects. The pie is only so big.

I agree the receiver on top is a miss. Users don't need to look at the receiver ever, so why not put it in the cabinet sideways (solves depth issue) and vertical? As matt points out the wiring above the cabinet is kind of gross but im sure weve all made these kinds of hind sight errors.

Easily the most boring episode yet. This whole install could have been 10 or 15 minutes edited. Meaningless rant after meaningless rant. Nobody cares dude just install the fuckers and do a sound test with copyright free music. That's all the people need to see. It's also too bad the outlet & cable runs are installed above to cabinet. Even though that wasn't spec'ed out before choosing the amp & speakers, you could have installed the outlet behind the cabinet anyways and just ran them up through it (like you did, just without going down first) and that would have allowed you to put the amp in the cabinet if things worked out (which they did, there's room in the cabinet for it). It really does look horrible there. Not bad, horrible. All the effort for symmetry ruined by 1 oversight and hastily made decision. Definitely a MAJOR flaw as the title says lol.

Every house I've ever been in or worked on has concessions made. Yeah with unlimited time and budget and most importantly energy, you could get close to a perfect layout/setup but that's not reality. A receiver on a cabinet or a towel bar in a suboptimal place isnt ruining this project.

Usain everything that went great on that wall
But Mike is the perfectionist and because of Mike everything came out perfectly measured because he measures not once not twice but probably three times then probably questions and then goes for the gusto
Matt unfortunately you forgot the measurement part of this whole thing except for the output and the components matching together probably except for the wiring didn't work with the system that you design
But to be clear no I didn't use any punctuations I'm not a perfectionist and worried about my texts like that
I have really big hands and I have the biggest phone that Samsung makes I can't use an iPhone because they make too small of phones but I still hit all the keys pretty much with my thumbs so I use voice to text and I'm okay with that

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:00 📢 *The PSB speakers have titanium dome tweeters with wave guides, which Matt normally doesn't like but thinks will sound good here.*
00:58 📺 *The setup will include an Apple TV 4K as the video source, an NAD T778 receiver for audio, and an 83" LG OLED TV.*
02:30 🛋 *This will be more of a family room setup rather than a dedicated home theater, with some acoustic treatment from furniture/rugs. *
03:10 🎶 *Matt is very impressed with NAD's use of Class D amplification, finding it sounds amazing despite lower power ratings.*
04:05 🗜 *The speaker setup is limited by the room, but will include front L/C/R speakers, side surrounds, and 2 subwoofers.*
08:43 📏 *Matt is laying out exactly where he wants the TV bracket, center channel, and other components mounted. *
11:29 📦 *Matt rants about getting rid of unneeded TV accessories and not being a hoarder.*
16:35 🕹 *The NAD receiver has modular inputs that can be changed later if new sources are added.*
21:53 🕳 *Matt is installing wall grommets to hide wires going to the receiver since the speakers limited his options.*
23:25 🥶 *Adam, Collete, Matt and Mike do an intense 3-minute cold plunge challenge in 52 degree water.*
26:32 🕳 *Mike helps Matt cut holes in the cabinet for the subwoofers, which Matt has pre-wired. *
33:42 📺 *They mount the 83" LG OLED TV and center it on the backsplash grout line. *
36:52 🎼 *Matt explains the PSB speakers have titanium dome tweeters and wave guides to prevent them from sounding too bright.*
39:43 ⚡ *The full system has simple connections: 5 speaker wires, 2 subwoofers, 1 HDMI, and the NAD modules.*
42:05 😟 *Matt realizes the front speakers look too big and overwhelm the TV, so he may swap them for smaller models.*
42:33 🤔 *Matt knew the speakers might be too big but wanted to try them first before deciding they need to be changed.*
43:14 🖼 *Matt decides to swap the front speakers for smaller PSB Imagine PWM1 models instead to better fit the TV visually. *
44:30 📺 *Going down just one more size to the PWM2 speakers would still overwhelm the TV, so PWM1 seems the best fit.*
45:10 ⚠ *Matt spent months planning every detail, but still had one mismatch with speakers too big, showing obsession and reality don't always match.*
46:46 🧩 *Getting 40 out of 40 details perfect is rare, so minor adjustments like speaker swap are expected in complex projects. *
47:11 🔈 *Matt will install the matching surround speakers, then calibrate once all furniture is in place.*
49:43 🎼 *Even unfinished, Matt loves the full speaker setup with the NAD receiver, impressed by the sound in the echoey unfinished room.*

Do you run Apple TV into tv and eARC to AVR on all your set ups?
I have Apple TV running into my DENON x4800h and it’s super buggy trying to get it to control volume etc etc all with Apple Remote. Sometimes it works, than randomly it all falls apart and stops working.

Hey Matt,, I’m glad it’s sounding good when it’s all dialed in, it’s going to be that much better. for pre-planning this like you did and that’s your only issue I think he did pretty good I myself could live with the bigger speakers, but. The smaller speakers do look better. and I am assuming you’re crossing them over at 80 Hz so with the subwoofers hearing the difference between the speakers probably is minimal. If you were running them at full range I’m sure there definitely would be an audible difference. Have a great one as always.

Might already be too late, but I think the PWM2's don't look too bad. I wouldn't want to sacrifice the performance of that system for a minor aesthetic difference. 🤔

Adam doesn't care about sound. A sonos system wouldn't have an receiver sticking out like a sore thumb.
Also you said you go off experience but you said you never owned an android phone so why do you think it's better? Just because it costs more? Also Amazon Alex is way better than Homekit, it has more features and is compatible with more 10x devices

Is it possible to keep the big speakers but get the screen a bit forward so it sits flush with the fronts of the speakers? I feel that would make a big difference without having to opt for the smaller less powerfull speakers... .
And while I´m busy suggesting, maybe make the tv cabinet a bit higher, so you can get the amp in the center with the leads tucked away with some cable management running thru the cabinet...?

See, I consider myself to be a bit of a audiophile, being around artists and friends who know a lot about audio and acoustics, but never heard of a brand called psb speakers!! I have 7.1 system at my house with atmos and powered by Bowers and Wilkins. Respect about the tv data, sony is better but lg is cheaper. I can relate to that!

I'm not really here to harp on you
But I myself harp over every one of the details when it comes to things like these I will go months studying and researching
The one place that you should have done your research is the measurement of width and height of the TV and the height and dimensions of the speakers
    That's obsession
Finding stock Google photos with TVs of similar size and speakers
    That's obsession
I get it you were probably looking at the specs more than you was anything else and that's why you overlooked that

Is it possible to continue the fluted wall tile across the center of the wall and notch out holes for the on wall speakers? The problem imo is the current color difference.… Maybe even paint the center to match? I think all the components would instantly disappear if the center section was a darker color. You could even space the speakers out a bit for a larger sound stage… I would kill to hear those speakers in that room 🤤

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

We can't... It's block behind the tile, and there is a hole behind the current position.

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

A display's brightness will change some from new out of the box. Most calibrators want a TV to settle in before calibrating. Otherwise the brightness/black level is going to change a bit.

I would try to drop the tops of the speakers to be flush with the TV, and see how that looks. I would also ask Adam what sound, and look he likes better. I know personally I would be okay with the bigger speaker look for the added sound.

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Due to what they are going to use it to watch/listen, the center channel is the most important. The L/R aren't carrying as much of the load, so I think it's going to be negligible for moderate volume Netflix watching. The key is they are still timbre matched.
