Awesome commentary as always , Matt halpern has bin my favourite metal drummer for a while ! I was smiling as I clicked on the video cause I knew you would see some good action here . Great job catching those cool licks!
Like I have said before, Matt is fricken amazing! I have been listening to Periphery for at least 10+ years now, and from my first time hearing them (song was "Frak The Gods") they have since been one of my all time favorite bands, with Matt being one of my absolute favorite drummers!
I understand why this is an instrumental ..but the song is SO great with Spencer singing/yelling. It completes the feeling of the song. ... YAh.. Matt has one of these 'flow states' that his entire body just fluently passthrough moments of drum strikes like it's effortless.. Really nice to watch. The in-studio recording sessions were a treat too when he was learning new faster double bass parts for the recent albums.. Helps us realize he's just a guy learning like many of us are too.. =)
Something awesome about these playthroughs are all the small details he adds in the moment. There's so much improvisation in all his performances - while still keeping track of the little red line the whole time.
A question: as a drum teacher, who didn't know much about these "heavy" drummers, did it affect what/how you are teaching now? Or changed anything in what you are playing/practicing?
Periphery , animals as leaders and many others from this genre come from our state man. Djent is a Maryland sound. Also. Darkest hour is from Baltimore. And some members of the dillinger escape plan
My favorite thing about this one is how out of 4/4 it is , but you would never know listening to him. I LOVE the little right back handed china hits he pairs with the snare in the main grove , this song with vocals hits hard as hell
You’re hip to the Halpern, now you need way more Aric Improta in your life.... Blurlights in the Videodrone. Do it piece by piece. Improta plays stuff you’ve never seen before.
Yo! It’s 2am here in NZ. I just got home from a gig. Sleepy Time 😴 Hope everyone is good!
🥁☕️💯👌
for me Matt H., too much repetitive cymbals, less transitions.. not something..
All good here. Cheers, mate.

This guy is like OMG everytime i see he playing. He has become one of my favourites
Yeah Matt’s a SERIOUS drummer man

Awesome Ryan!
Anything Matt does is done so tastefully and with so much feel. Fantastic drummer!
Tasteful is such a perfect word for Matt’s playing

Seriously, this is easily my favorite Periphery song. Matt kills it as always.
Matt is such a joy to watch! Also, whenever im stressed out at work, i immediately watch his 22 faces playthru to calm my nerves.. cheers!

Love it!
Love to see Matt on your channel, would love to see more of him and periphery!
saw em live in 2014. i shit you not from beside the stage the snare sounded like a cannon going off. was intense

I come for the drummers but I stay for you Andrew! Love your reactions and personality.
Best sounding Drum Mix ever created
Being from Baltimore, Maryland here in the US, it’s cool to see him wearing the hat of our baseball team.
That snare!!!
YESSSSS

At 5:11 that part where he hits the mini cymbal, whats that call in drumming terms? Im new to drumming and I really like how it made me groove

It's Matt, man.. he's got it all, thanks for reaction :) also that snare sound ah
Yup he's killer!
Very busy drummer with a unique style
100%
It's pretty cool to see someone with that much power spend so much time riding the Brass Lightning.
his style simultaneously looks super relaxed and exhausting
The Halpern flow, almost as iconic as the Van Damme split.
😮😮😮...what a beast! 👍👍👍☺
Yes Daniel!
so much fun to watch!
That Naked Gun clip caught me off guard haha
Another (Rudinger and Garstka) MD local hero.
Emmanuelle Caplette "The Chamber" 2013. Where is it? She's Amazing
Or Peace for 4
I need to get to her! 👍
Me: (thoughts in my head of good snare tone)
Andrew Rooney: "Great snare tone."
🤣👌💯
Awesome!! 👏😎
💯👌
The Halpern Flow = All cymbals must be moving all the time
If I'm not mistaken this is back when he had his signature mapex snare
Now I got to go watch the Naked Gun movies. Thank you! It's been too long!
YES David!
Great video but I wish he had done the album version with Spencer's vocals.
MATT HALPERN - REPTILE IS A MUST !
There aren’t really any drum play throughs for reptile though. Unless you count the meinle video with the whole band
@@camhorejs they released a drum only camera version of that video

Cobus kings and queens by 30 seconds to mars

Matt Halpern - The drum preacher, If you turned the volume down, one would think he was playing in a gospel band, just amazing
Loose but tight.
why does everyone play better than me ? ))))))))))))))
Matt lost this round. @0:47 he let the cymbals stop moving.
🤣🤣👌
He should just replace his toms with cymbals, he barely uses them.
You must not listen to Periphery? lol
Dude is boring. Nothing interesting happening.
alright :D
