      He absolutely did. There isn't much deflection visible on the tail, but a no-flare landing looks a lot different. He sure planted that main gear resolutely on the tarmac, but he didn't belly-flop it.

    No Flare input you say... take a close looks at those elevators (Tail)... Dude they were literally waving and at one point almost vertical... Heavy plane (Remember it's cargo), full flaps and heavy cross winds... it is a freakin' 747... I think the pilot did a fantastic job

    • @tonamg53
      @tonamg53 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      747 is actually known to be quite forgiving to land…
      Also elevator shouldn’t be waving in a flare…
      Flare is basically just slightly increasing the plane attitude to arrest the rate of descent for a smooth touchdown…
      Pushing the nose down is not part of a flare.

    • @MohJam
      @MohJam 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      @@tonamg53 Yes the 747 was very forgiving from what I've heard. I'm not a pilot so can't really speak on that, but I assume that's why so many liked it. But it's still a big heavy aircraft...
      Technically yes during flaring the elevator should be steady... but that's in a perfect world... This was in a cross wind and you can see the pilot was constantly correcting. thus the waving elevators...
      Never mentioned the lowering of the nose... actually to my understanding raising the nose is actually part of the flare... as you can see the elevator went up... the nose went up. That's how elevator work...
      I'm really not sure what your point was... Now I'm not even sure of my point... But suffice to say that the statement "No Flare input" is false.

    • @tonamg53
      @tonamg53 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@MohJam The “neutral” position of the elevator to remain on the desired flight path will depends on the weight and balance of the aircraft. So seeing elevator in upwards position might not always mean pulling the nose up, it may also means just keeping the nose steady.
      Also you don’t used elevator to counteract crosswind. That’s rudder.

    Mayan Air did not fail to climb because he didn’t retract the gear. The plane is perfectly capable of climbing out with the gear down. The fact is it is the obvious the aircraft flew into a small, but not insignificant wind shear and the pilots executed a wind shear escape maneuver. This includes pitching to hold air speed, increasing power, and making NO CHANGES in the configuration in the aircraft Neil clear of the event. Perhaps you should watch some of Mentor pilots videos, he has one on this very event.

    Fun fact: despite having 4 engines and higher MTOW, the A340-300 is less powerful than the A330-300, which it shares its fuselage with.

    747 flared, he didn’t want to float in the crosswind and have to go around most likely, but he did flare. The 340 with the gear down could be to cool the brakes before they retract the gear. If they got the brakes hot on their arrival, they may have needed to leave it extended for cooling.

    • @rtbrtb_dutchy4183
      @rtbrtb_dutchy4183 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The A340 really doesn’t have quick enough turn around for the brakes to be an issue. This is more likely to have a deactiveer brake and having to wait for a wheel to spin down.

  • @jamesm568

    Nah, it’s just an “assertive touchdown”! Looks like a slightly early round out attempt followed by over correction, correct decision to dump it on the runway rather than exacerbate the PIO.
    Not sure about the ‘crosswind gust’ - happens at exactly the same time the rudder deflects, so may well be pilot induced, ie insufficient aileron into wind with the rudder application.

    2:30 It is a B1-B, the name Lancer came about in 1990. My friend as a kid, I played with, was team leader of the guidance system development. As a kid, he built gas engine powered planes from scratch. On 30 June 1977, Carter announced that the B-1A would be canceled. 💩Reagan won the election in a landslide, Reagan decided the best solution was to procure both the B-1 and ATB, and on 2 October 1981 he announced that 100 B-1s were to be ordered to fill the LRCA role.💪
    In January 1982, the U.S. Air Force awarded two contracts to Rockwell worth a combined $2.2 billion for the development and production of 100 new B-1 bombers. 1984, Reagan won re-election in a landslide victory, carrying 525 electoral votes, 49 states, and 58.8% of the popular vote.
