The Rebel Princess (outstanding), Princess WeiYoung, The King's Woman, Love Like the Galaxy (I thought Zhao LuSi was at her best in this drama), Eternal Love, Story of YanXi Palace, The Story of Ming Lan, Empress of China, Nirvana In Fire. All were excellent or very good. I haven't watched them all, though.
I think that in this list are missing two of the most wonderful Chinese historical drama. Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace” and The King’s Woman” When we talk about best Chinese Historical Dramas these cannot be ignored.
The Story of Ming Lan was my very first cdrama. I remember seeing a comment that said Ming Lan was still about the upper class but more of the home life and the day to day. Yes, royalty and nobility was still there, but it was more about Ming Lan growing up as a (albeit rich) scholar’s daughter and her outsmarting everyone.
Half of these are COSTUME dramas, NOT historical. And there are wayyy better historical dramas than the ones listed. I strongly recommend "Empresses in the Palace", NOTHING beats it.
What about Princess agents, the legend of Fei , the song of glory , the legend of Fuyao , a girl like me, and who rules the world . Those dramas have strong felmale lead no damsel in distress but badass instead i only love these types
Nirvana in Fire and Scarlet Heart are the two dramas that started it all for many of us so thanks for that! Wang Yibo is my fave, but IMO Word of Honor is much better than The Untamed. The Rebel Princess is one of the greats as well.
Nirvana in Fire is best!! Number 2 is Joy of Life! Incredible story even if it’s fantasy. I wouldn’t add Untamed and Eternal Love in this list because it’s too fantasy stories.
I absolutely agree with you.Nirvan in fire deserves the top spot and The untamed is on 2nd. Ironically The untamed is always the closest one to my heart.I know it has some flaws but it can be ignored considering its other outstanding aspects.❤

I don't know which drama is better The rebel Princess(i can watch it again) or Story of Yanxi palace, ( My heart wouldn't take it one more time ) A dream of splendor is also a good drama, The romance of Tiger and Rose is a sweet drama. The story of MingLang was not to my taste. Love like the Galaxy, then The Long Ballad are also great dramas. The Untamed i i want to watch. In the end I really liked the drama New life begins, because, unlike most, it is light, laced with humor, with a minimum of intrigue. A drama that pleased me in these times. The best drama I ever watched is Royal Nirvana, the acting, directing, the cinematography. It is gloomy but it is faithful to the book. You know if you watch Romeo and Juliet, it is not going to end well, but we still watch it because, every production brings their interpretation of the drama. Royal Nirvana is a masterpiece.

Novoland (Pearl eclipse) and Goodbye my princess🙌wasn't left the same after watching them. But I love that Nirvana is on the first. That one is the home of schemes/machinations... Which is the core of most costume political dramas
