    I'd like to thank Scott as well.
    He was a significant factor in turning a homophobic straight teenager into a man who thinks someone's sexuality doesn't define their morals or character.
    Scott, in the long shot you hear this, you helped me be a better man.

    It breaks my heart to know that this man felt as if he didn't reach the Gay community in the late 80's with Buddy. Here we were, dying in droves, friends, boyfriends, sons, uncles... but with the "spontaneity of Champagne in a slipper," Scott "Buddy" Thompson gave us something to laugh about when those not living with HIV and AIDS would let us die. For 4 to 5 minutes, we could escape to Buddy's Place, have a laugh and prepare to fight another day. I bought and read "Buddy Babylon" from cover to cover on a flight from San Francisco to Vancouver (oddly enough it being Canadian) and laughed out loud the whole way through. From the corny girl doll at the pig farm in Quebec to the lover who died over a toilet... H I L A R I O U S. Thank you Scott, I've appreciated what you've done all these years to make me laugh out loud... your talent will always remind me of what Moliere once said to Guy de Maupassant in a cafe in Vienna...

    Buddy Cole is the Quentin Crisp of North America! What a fabulous treasure. Both successors to Oscar Wilde without the "beard". Scott Thompson helps us stay alive, laughing and relevant through our darkest days! His take on of SILENCE=DEATH doom-and-gloom with a poster of Buddy Cole in black shirt and Jean's sitting while holding a large Martini glass with the iconic all caps letters "screaming" SILENCE=RELAXATION! Fucking brilliant! Nothing but love and respect.

    I love everything about this interview and Scott Thompson. I would sneak into my grandmother's living room about 1 a.m. and watch Kids and I remember his monologues were so shocking and funny and honest (or at least seemed honest to my 12 year old brain). Now, and speaking as a middle aged Christian, conservative in Texas, I still find his honesty and humor refreshing. Scott Thompson is punk for nice people.

    I was a huge KITH fan in the early 90's (19-20yo), and a year or two from coming out, so I looked at Buddy and thought this is part of what my world will be some day. I knew zero gays and the rest of the gays on TV were terrible, but I wasn't conflicted, nor anywhere even close to be that flamboyant or effeminate, and Buddy was hilarious and I knew being gay was going to be great (it was!). To this day, I still go "What's herrrr problem?" in Buddy's voice, and loved that after I came out I finally understood what "girl, and sister, and what's her problem?" meant! (Oh, and don't forget to twirl while rounding your bases, or just walking down the street.)

      Im sure the white man literally touring a country to perform to thousands is in great danger of losing free speech. I mean he only has a lifetime of jobs and connections in the entertainment industry. Hed be helpless if someone was mean to him on Twitter for saying something dumb

    • @AndyWitmyer
      @AndyWitmyer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We should stop labeling people by skin color, it's only perpetuating racism. For instance, instead of proclaiming that"white men should be allowed to speak", I think it would be far better just to say that all humans should have the right to speak equally. What does pigmentation have to do anything? Or gender for that matter? We're all humans and we should start viewing each other in that way.

    • @AndyWitmyer
      @AndyWitmyer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That said, I agree with your underlying sentiment. Political correctness is rampant, as is racism against those with a lighter pigment. That it's perfectly acceptable and even trendy in the media to hate, mock, censor and stereotype those with a European ancestry is pretty absurd. It's been in my experience that those who are the most vocal in accusing others of hate are often the ones with the most hatefulness in their hearts.

  • @saraholson5946

    The problem was always the misogyny within the gay community and never with Buddy Cole. It is the same criticism faced by Jack on Will and Grace and Mitch and Cam on Modern Family. Open hatred of the feminine. As if being effeminate is the worst thing possible and always inherently negative. So much self hate projected. I think subsequent generations are doing better and better with wrestling that particular demon to the floor.

  • @shawnchong5196

    Just like others, after watching KITH, I felt that homophobic behaviour is bad. During the that time, most of society, especially religious individuals, were very wary and against homosexuals.
    However after I watched KITH, I decided that this behaviour was bad - there is no crime/guilt for how you were born. A person's sexual orientation/preference doesn't make the individual good/bad, it's there actions. There are bad straight people and bad gay people, the measuring stick should be the same. Of course everyone defines this differently...

    • @Atomb
      @Atomb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wrong. Political correctness seeks to cast certain values as the truth and therefore above criticism. This is the antithetical to liberalism, which holds that there are no sacred cows.
