Stunning! Emotion fairly drips from this powerful IBMA Song of the Year! Congrats to the CLB and to songwriters Claire Lynch and Louisa Branscomb. Pick away!
I was in Murfreesboro Tn about 35 years ago and went thru the cemetery and the battle field at stones river not knowing my GGGrandfather was the music director for the union army until about 15 years ago, that led me to the video "Dear Sister" with pictures I saw back then. She wrote this with a descendent of the dear sister in the song.
Stones river battle can be found on google. They describe both bands playing "Home sweet home" My GGGrandfater was the conductor for the Union Army. Originally camped at Nashviolle, but then they decided they had to attack the Rebels at Mursboro where a battle field memorial is lovated. Went there only because my days end motel was full and they routed me toMursboro. Went through the small musem and then 37 years latter heard this hauning song while reeserching family history.
Absolutely gorgeous song. Too bad it includes the false doctrine of universalism. Jesus said the gate is narrow. Hell is real and will be occupied by those who refuse to repent and bow to the King.
@@ClaireLynch-ThrillHill Quite, bang on. Wonderful writing, musically top-notch. Garden-variety song-smiths, well, we all celebrate your work. Thanks for what you do.
The sentiment we felt is that peace is better than war, love is better than hate. And in fact, there are universal commonalities between all of us. L. Branscomb, co-writer.
The most beautiful thing I have ever heard
I'm probably about 1000 of the nearly 41,000 views. Love this song - which is perfectly suited to her voice.
What a gem. The story and melody is perfectly done using the dynamics of crescendo and decrescendo. This rendition is totally album worthy.
Magnificent, heart wrenching &a soul-lifting all at once! How have I never know this amazing woman/band until now?

9/27/23: It’s Nashville. And it’s Murfreesboro. Just for the record.
And a true story. She and another gal wrote this together after reading an actual letter "back home" from a Civil War soldier to his sister.
Lyrics taken from a relatives letters home circa 1860’s WOW

Divisive dualism. Jesus said love one another.
