    Dr. Niraj Rai is one of the world's foremost experts in archaeogenetics and molecular biology.
    He is the Group Head of the Ancient DNA Lab at Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences, Lucknow. www.bsip.res.in/bsip_director...
    He specializes in the use of next-generation sequencing data to study human population histories.
    He has authored and co-authored numerous ground-breaking papers on genetics.
    OUTLINE:
    00:00 Introduction
    00:37 What is DNA?
    01:56 What is nuclear (autosomal) DNA and how is it different from other DNA types?
    04:00 What is RNA?
    04:50 What are haplogroups?
    10:46 Out-of-Africa migration: genetic, archaeological evidence
    13:22 Out-of-African dispersal: happened via India along coastal route
    14:22 The oldest non-African haplogroups (lineages) originated in India
    15:58 Haplogroup F: oldest non-African male lineage originated in India
    17:25 Incredible diversity in India's genetics; including R1a
    18:36 Ancestral "North Indian" & "South Indian" ancestry (ANI and ASI): oversimplified, incorrect, obsolete model of Indian population genetics
    23:40 ANI and ASI does NOT correspond to "Aryans" and "Dravidians"
    25:04 What is "Iranian ancestry"? How old is it?
    26:00 The "Iranian ancestry" found in Rakhigarhi sample was Indian ancestry
    27:04 The unproven ASSUMPTION of closeness between Onge (Andamanese) ancestry & Indian ancestry
    28:23 What is "Steppe ancestry"; how old is it? Is it present in Indians?
    32:44 Steppe ancestry in India: a minor, slow, gradual, trickle-down population influx. Not a major migration.
    33:53 Steppe ancestry trickle in India can easily be explained by small Scythian, Kushan, Hunnic influxes in India starting ~2,200 years before present
    34:45 India's enormously diverse population cannot be force-fitted into simplistic categories (ASI, ANI, etc.)
    38:33 Is Steppe ancestry related to Europe's Yamnaya invaders?
    39:22 Rakhigarhi DNA - how old is it, U2 haplogroup (matrilineal)
    40:17 Why is it so difficult to extract ancient DNA samples in India?
    41:49 Rakhigarhi DNA: Indus periphery ancestry
    43:53 Undeniable proof of large-scale Out-Of-India migrations
    45:42 The Aryan invasion/migration theory is dead
    47:04 Difference between "Harappan" culture and Ganga Plain culture
    49:30 R1a1a patrilineal lineage diversified in India at least ~10,000 YBP: most likely originated in Indian subcontinent
    53:45 R1b (Yamnaya patrilineal lineage) also most likely originated in India
    54:43 Indians have negligible Neanderthal ancestry: how this debunks Aryan invasion/migration theory
    57:01 Jati-Varna ("caste") stratification & endogamy in India: what does genetic data show? Founder effects, population bottlenecks
    01:02:20 Domestication of horses in ancient India happened at least 4,500 years before present
    01:05:09 Indian Zebu cattle spread across the world at least 8,000 YBP
    01:07:26 Ancient Indians settled in Australia at least ~6,000 years ago, along with Indian dhole dogs (ancestors of Australian dingos)
    01:08:00 Ancient Indian ancestry in Indonesia; modern Indonesians have ~10% Indian ancestry
    01:09:52 Denisovan ancestry: found in Tibet, South-East Asia, highland populations
    01:10:46 The world's oldest evidence of Agriculture: CONSISTENTLY found in Indian subcontinent. India is the true cradle of civilization.
    14:33:21 Lakshadweep islands DNA: exact match with Kerala
    01:16:27 The people of Yemen have Indian ancestry
    01:17:05 Cultural & genetic affinity between India and Eastern Africa
    01:18:24 Queen Ketevan of Kakheti, Georgia: how an ancient murder mystery was solved
    01:22:19 What genetic research needs to be undertaken in India, in the future? What big questions remain unanswered?
    01:26:01 India needs a lot more geneticists; better policies, direction & leadership
    01:27:40 Advice/roadmap for aspiring geneticists
    01:31:25 India is a goldmine for future research: linguistics, history, anthropology, sociology, genetics

    • @thedescanteer
      @thedescanteer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      @Amiya kumar What rubbish. He clearly explains how ANI-ASI are basically premeditated and flawed categories invented by David Reich's labs by eliminating most of the genetic data because it was inconvenient for their preconceived statistical model. At the timestamp mentioned by you, he simply states that he has no choice but to accept it academically for now since its a peer-reviewed study legitimised by a leading journal like Nature, but on 23:20 he says that he's soon coming out with counter studies that will start the process of demolishing the deliberately faulty ANI-ASI hypothesis. Nowhere did he say that ANI-ASI is supported by archaeology, that was said in the context of the Out of Africa migration hypothesis. Improve your listening skills buddy.

    • @thedescanteer
      @thedescanteer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @Amiya kumar LOL. I should have guessed. You're just another bumbling Aryan invasion/migration/tourism apologist. If you had better comprehension skills, you'd have understood that the very thrust of this entire conversation was that the supposedly established theory of steppe migration is anything but an "Aryan migration". Why? Because, one, the so-called steppe component entered the Indian genetic pool with a semblance of group entry way too late in history (almost entirely after 500 BCE); two, genetic overlaps with so-called steppe markers during the pre-Harappan and Harappan epochs were way too long-drawn and way too insignificant vis-a-vis the population size of India; three, the sum total of one & two amounts to less than 5% ancestry in available samples even after all kinds of statistical jugglery to construct ANI, while out-of-India genes in the Indus Periphery (greater Iran) stands at 30-40%, which yet again corroborates group migrations of Harappans into all directions when the Saraswati started disappearing; and four, the supposed steppe genes brought in absolutely zero change in material culture in the Indian archaeological record. Capiche?
      Yamnaya samples are R1a and R1b dominant. Unless it is unequivocally proven where R1 originated (almost certainly India given it's diversity and STR frequency here), it is impossible to conclude whether Indians carry Yamnaya genes, or vice versa. This CWC>Yamnaya>Iranian>Indo-Aryan nonsense is more of a linguistic theory invented by Western Indologists rather than a genetic fact.
      You have much to learn, buddy.

    Hello Dr. Neera and Mr. Abhijit Chavda sir ji;
    I have been doing research work on the history of ancient India for many years and the basic source of my research has been the history of the ancient world and Kinnauri cultural traditions and Kinnauri language.
    It is a common belief that the R1a Y haplogroup originated in the Middle East and is also hypothesized to have spread to India 5000 years ago due to migration by Indo-European speakers. While my linguistic study says that the names of hundreds of ancient Eurasian geographic signeture points like Saraswati, Indus, Tibet, Ural, Thinshan, China, Hindu, Hindukush, Mongolia, Siberia etc. are "Kinnauri" Indian language words. Which originated from the mouths of "Kinnauri" Indian language speakers. Which shows that before the Saraswati river dried up, this language was spoken in the above mentioned geographical areas of Eurasia and also by the pyramid builders of Egypt. Which stamps the migration of Kinnauri speakers in Eurasia and Africa. But without genetic study of Kinnauri speaking people of district Kinnaur H.P. we cannot say with certainty whether Kinnauri speaking people went out of India or came to India from outside. If R1a Y haplogroup is found in the DNA of tribals of Kinnaur, then your new R1a Y haplogroup migration theory would have been confirmed that R1a did not come to India from Central Asia but went from India to Central Asia.
    मै कई वर्षों से प्राचीन भारत के इतिहास पर शोध कार्य कर रहा हूँ और मेरे शोध का मूल स्त्रोत प्राचीन विश्व का इतिहास और किन्नौरी संस्कृतिक परम्पराये व् किन्नौरी भाषा रहा है।
    यह आम धारणा हैकि R1a Y हेप्लोग्रुप का जन्म मध्यपूर्व में हुआ है और यह भी परिकल्पना हैकि 5000 वर्ष पूर्व भारतमें की भारत-युरोपीय भाषियों के द्वारा प्रवास के कारण फैला। जबकि मेरा भाषाई अध्ययन यह कहता हैकि सरस्वती, सिंधु, तिब्बत, यूराल, थिनशान, चीन, हिन्दू, हिन्दुकुश, मंगोलिया, साइबेरिया आदि सैंकड़ो प्राचीन यूरेशिया के भूगौलिक हरताक्षर बिंदुओं के नाम "किन्नौरी"भारतीय भाषा के शब्द है। जिन की उतपति "किन्नौरी"भारतीय भाषा बोलने वालों के मुख से हुई थी। जो दर्शाता है कि सरस्वती नदी के सूखने से पूर्व यह भाषा उक्त यूरेशिया के भूगोलिक क्षेत्रो में और मिस्र के पिरमिंड रचेताओ के द्वारा भी बोली जाती थी। जो यूरेशिया और अफ्रीका में किन्नौरी भाषियों के प्रवास पर मोहर लगाता है। लेकिन जिला किन्नौर के किन्नौरी भाषी लोगों की आनुवंशिक अध्ययन के बिना हम पुख्ततौर पर यह नहीं कह सकते हैकि किन्नौरी भाषी लोग भारत से बाहर गए थे या बाहर से भारत आये थे। यदि किन्नौर के आदिवासियों का डीएनए में R1a Y हेप्लोग्रु पाया जाता है तो आप के नवीन R1a Y हेप्लोग्रुप प्रवास सिद्धांत पर पक्की मोहर लग जाता कि R1a मध्य एशिया से भारत को नहीं आया है अपितु भारत से मध्य एशिया गया था।

    • @tsamgurkhan
      @tsamgurkhan 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The R1a migration theory is made up by Eurocentrists to form a link with a Civilization because at present they don't have any link. Greece is not linked to the Eurocentrists. The mtDNA studies show migration of women from India to the North West. The Eurocentrists are not able to deny that. Then they made two studies, one on R1a and another on Skin Color. The Skin Color done by David Reich is also fudged by including Andamanese Tribes to bring more darkness among Indians in South. And the R1a data is contains conjuncture. Thre R1a* is common in India, and Europe East, but very blank in Eurasia Region in Armenia and Georgia. So, they made a conjucture that R1a may have come from Europe. But, Yamnaya were predominantly R1b. They are said to be progenitor of Sintashta, which the Eurocentrists claim are original Aryans. But if Yamnayas who are R1b, came to India, through Sintashta and BMAC, then Indians should be R1b*. But it's not so. Also, the Eurocentrists, having seen that mtDNA movement is from India to North West, have made a special conclusion that Aryan Migration was only men migration, who came single without wives and children, which I think is ridiculous.
