    Neil is that guy you invite to the house party because he's cool and everyone likes him, but you also know you can't stay in conversation with him for too long, else he'll start being insufferable. You kinda just chitchat and sip your drinks a few times, hear him tell a cool story and some clever jokes, then before he starts to focus on one thing for too long you excuse yourself to go to the bathroom and simply never return.

    • @Axiohm
      @Axiohm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Uh no, it can be 100% scientifically accurate and be fiction if the story isn't real. If you've seen 2001: A Space Odyssey, it's considered one of the most scientifically accurate science fiction movies of all time, and is science fiction nonetheless. You seem to think that realism and scientific accuracy somehow detract from the quality of a sci Fi film but I completely disagree. That's not to say that I don't enjoy sci Fi that's not realistic if it's well done, but realism makes it better in a lot of cases. And if it's TOO lacking in realism you can really ruin a story. Science fiction SHOULD be as accurate as possible, and viewers should only be required to suspend disbelief when it is necessary and enhances the experience

    Issue with the wormholes described in Monsters Inc is that wormholes cannot move in space, because they simply connect two points in space, not two objects. Another thing would be that they’d be spherical. So, while the doors exhibit the overall concept fairly well, they do not exhibit the nature of what is theoretically possible within our own universe.

He told me that he had fallen into the crack between the seat in his car. We all lived on mountains of mix-matched socks and crumbs from snacks people lost on long car rides. • @Danmarinja

    See, I’ve always seen the fourth dimension as something a bit more complicated. I want to try to explain it:
    Let’s imagine you’re an ant in an ant farm, and all you can see is the X axis (directly in front of and behind you) and the Y axis (going up and down. The ant in this ant farm only sees a thin slit of the world in front/behind, and above/below it. And the ant lives it’s life thinking that the entire world is just in this thin slit, because it’s never known what it’s like to move side-to-side. Only forwards/backward, and up/down.
    So, you take the ant in it’s little ant farm, and you pick it up and twist it a single degree. Within its ant farm home, the ant sees literally everything differently. If it was facing a part of a painting where it could see the model’s eye, now the eye is gone, and it can see part of the model’s nose. If it was facing a CD shelf and it could see an album by Pink!, now it sees an album by Pink Floyd. Nothing about the world is different , but what the ant sees is entirely different, because it’s facing a direction it never faced before. So the ant thinks it’s somewhere new, but it’s in the same place looking at something different.
    Now imagine you have a 3D person. They’re in their own 3D ant farm, and they love their life with a view of the mountains on the horizon and a field of flowers nearby. Now, someone takes that 3D person’s ant farm and moves it to face a different direction in 4D space. That person is in the exact same place they were before, nothing about them changed, but suddenly, everything looks completely different. Everything. The nearby field of flowers suddenly became a similar field that no gardener is taking care of, so it’s just overgrown with weeds. In 4D space, those weeds are next to the flowers, but flowers and weeds are 3D objects and so despite being next to each other, will never be able to touch. As well as this, the mountain that you see in the horizon looks like it’s just folding in on itself when you are moved in 4D space. It looks like it’s deforming and changing, but you’re just looking at it from another dimension. The mountain isn’t changing, you’re just seeing a different part of it you couldn’t before.
    Hopefully that makes sense, I spent ages trying to figure this stuff out, and this is as simple as I can put it without shortening it too much.

    • @brandonhanes7957
      @brandonhanes7957 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Conceptually, looking through a wormhole would be like looking through a completely spherical fisheye lense. The more you move around it, the more you see through time and space.

    I have a few nteresting questions incolving theoretical physics...
    Question one:
    How much energy is needed to rip molecules apart at their seams?
    Answer:
    Almost the exact amount of energy of 3 to 5 normal lightning strikes... I can't tell you how much that is, but the heat exchange (in a single area) would provably ionize the air. A lightning bolt is several times hotter than the surface of the Sun.
    Question Two:
    About how much energy would it take to pull molecules together in an instant?
    Answer (probably. Still working out the math on this one):
    About 10 to 20 times more than pulling molecules apart.
    If you haven't caught on, I know a way to make the weapons of the Nekrons from Warhammer 40k a reality. Would they work? Probably once as the amount of energy needed far surpasses that which we can safely generate. Even with nuclear power or the Particle Accelerator.
