    I love this about JHS. it's not all about selling their own products. it's about lifting up the culture and spreading love to your peers.

      Josh is so happy playing with his pedals and clearly likes to share his toys. Kind of Bloke you enjoy spending time with, reminds me of Peter Frampton.

      JHS is in an enviable position much like Analogman and Keeley. His pedals are so good, he really doesn't need to puff up his gear to make sales or at least be in your face about it. Plus, he really does seem like the ultimate pedal geek....just look at that collection of pedals in the videos!....my god I would love that. Finally, he comes across in every video as just a really nice guy. I don't think it would be in his nature to act any other way.

      @@scubagib6438 I think you could say that about a lot of the big pedal makers like the ones you mentioned plus Wampler, EQD, etc. that do just pedals and not like MXR. They all seem to just love what they do and when someone else makes something cool they geek over it just like us.

      some independent guitar/music shops that have been around for a while and encourage used resale end up being kinda like this i.e. good mix of out of production classics and just plain goofy old stuff, people just sitting around trying out equipment. trading musician in seattle comes to mind - it's the only place i've seen a fender blender, a plexiglass guitar, OG MXR/Boss/EHX stuff from the '70s and '80s in real life. the vibe is pretty ragtag and there's a good amount of just plain wacky/homemade/useless stuff but it's fun to have that pawn shop experience. but yeah, too bad there aren't really places where musicians can get together and play with this stuff without the end goal of making a purchase.

      I would love to see a pedal built collaboratively by JHS, Keeley and Earthquaker Devices. I'm thinking a multieffects unit where JHS designs the Tremolo, Keeley designs the Delay and EQD designs the Reverb or a Compressor, OD, Fuzz where Keeley does Compression, JHS does Overdrive and EQD does the Fuzz. Like a super group of pedal builders.

    one of the most incredible pedal of the 2018 (at least for me) is the Chase Bliss Audio THERMAE. Everytime I play it it's very difficoult to turn it off. maybe not very intuitive for the 'one knob guys' but I've to say it's AWESOME.
    And yes, TENSOR are incredible.

  • @IPushHard
    @IPushHard 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I liked several that you showed today, but the one that really made my eye twinkle was the Aqueduct by Earthquaker. I LOVE when a pedal gives me choices because space on the board doesnt come easy. If it does lotsa things, it's already scored a few gold stars with me. Pedals like that make your board BIGGER.
    Now, I have to apologize. lol ...because my favorite pedal of 2018 is the Rubberneck by DoD.
    Why? Because it has that effect loop that lets you change how the delay trails sound using any pedal you want, and IMO the delay sounds pretty good.
    My 2nd favorite is the JHS Muffuletta. Any fan of the Muff line should grab one and give it board real estate.
    Thanks

    My favorite thing about this video is that this is less of a top 10 and more of a "Check out all the cool shit my friends are doing." The pedal building community seems really inclusive, which is just so great to see. So many killer pedals on this list too!!! I'm totally going to buy the Octopus now.
    I really dug Earthquaker's Black Ash and Westwood pedals. The Westwood is now my always on overdrive and the Black Ash is just a phenomenal sounding, super heavy fuzz/distortion.
    As far as favorite album of 2018, Daughter's "You Won't Get What You Want" is one of the best albums I've ever heard.

    The only new pedals that made it out of 2018 still on my board... EQD Hoof Reaper, Greer Lightspeed, and EQD Avalanche Run V2. So they get my vote!

    • @joerobinson6199
      @joerobinson6199 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Slowdy I tried the lightspeed 3x. It’s just too light and it takes my great sounding amp and in my opinion does not make it sound better. I have the Samson and the Southland. They’re pretty good. No more lightspeed for me. I spent way too much money trying to like them. It’s great for some. Just not for me.

    That Hawaiian Pizza sounds stellar, and really does look great. That was probably my favorite that you played. Favorite new pedal of 2018....hmmm. Not to sound like a suck up, but the Mini Foot Fuzz V2. I’m really happy with everything on my Helix except the fuzzes, so any new fuzz or new takes on fuzzes I already like Will immediately catch my attention.

    • @SidFi20
      @SidFi20 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats actually exactly my take on my Helix LT so far. Fuzz especially and reverb second. Compressors amps drive pedals and delays all seem really good. Phaser too. Flanger somewhere in bettween.

    • @keithcampbell5914
      @keithcampbell5914 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Michael Moniz key is getting that middle frequency knob in the right place. You can get a good range of sound just from that- it can be creamy, cocked-wah, treble boosty and everything in between.

      Well, I wanted an analog tap tempo delay with some modulation and I ended buying the DOD Rubberneck. I'm very pleased with it.

      It was the product of a couple guys' passionate vision (who both got screwed over by 'the Man' in the process) so even though it wasn't handmade by some hipsters in a a garage, it has a boutique soul.

    Lol I use the metal zone to get clean, quacky, super mids-y ska guitar tone. It has the range and power to bury all other eq settings out of the mix.I wish I was smarter and could mod the pedal to swap the entire distortion circuit for a tunable Envelopefilter/wah type effect for some funk...come on jhs.get on it.

    My top 2 pedals for 2018 are #1 the JHS @+ - I love the pedal and it has lots of versatility. A close 2nd is the Flashback II by TC Electronic - very cool pedal with lots of great delay tones and it's programmable. I'll probably get the Hall of Fame II sometime this year.

    I can´t decide between de TENSOR and the Aquaduct, I feel attracted by the "Tape" sound of the Tensor, but also think that de Aquaduct is the best Vibrato I've ever heard. About the best pedal of 2018, I'm really amazed by the work of an Argentinian brand that have been getting bigger and bigger each month, I have tried every one of his pedals because I work in a music Instruments and sound shop, and ALL of his pedals are amazing. Check it: Electromate is their name

      The Tensor is so much fun. I love all of the cool things that it can pull off. It’s actually mind boggling how many different jobs it can do. The “tape stop” effect made me instantly fall in love. Also using it in conjunction with the looper in the Line 6 DL4 makes for the most interactive and controllable looping fun I’ve ever had.

    Happy 2019--- I REALLY REALLY want a Red Panda Tensor, im a huge fan of the Dod PDs 20/20 and Echo Pluss PDS 8000 and the sample n pitch function on those and as i gather it can do kind of stuff like that,,... and for other 2018 pedals i like the Ehx SUPER EGO PLUSS it is an expansion on an old pedal but i has alot of nifty features.. other than that i guess the Ehx synth9 isnt from 2018?

    1: favorite is the Caverns V2...I can’t get enough of this pedal. Before I got a tremolo pedal I faked one with the spring reverb on this. I use it for ambient stuff mostly, sometimes I like to leave the reverb on w/ high decay but low effect level when I get to more rock-ish parts.
    2: Don’t know if this was made for the first time this year for sure, but it’s definitely been perfected this year...this is the next pedal I’m buying hands down. Hello Sailor Effects Anchor Drive.

    As a pedal freak, I love your channel! My fav thing you demoed was the 1981 Inventions drive, and second the Bleep glitch fuzz thingamabob. Yet, I cannot comment on 2018 pedals because I only bought two pedals this year (MXR '74 Phase 90 Script & TC Electronic HoF2) and instead souped up two jaguars with seymour duncans, got two new amps (Marshall DSL40C & 1966 Gibson Minuteman) and bought two guitars (Reverend Club King 290 & Eastwood Sidejack Baritone).

    My fave is an odd one. The Fortin Spliff. It's a buffered splitter with an out for tuners. The thing even has a 180° phase on an out to correct phase issues when splitting between 2 amps. And it's got an iso out to eliminate ground noise. The most useful thing on my board.

    The Bonsai was seriously my favorite new pedal this year - I've had to constantly switch a space on my board between two different green drive pedals, and now I've got it all in one little box - so wonderful. Honorable mention to Heather Brown's The Blessed Mother - very cool low drive/clear fuzzy kind of sound.
