What’s also crazy to think about is that Johnson broke Pieter Mennea’s world record at the 1996 US trials by running a 19.66, before he ran that 19.32 at the Olympics that same year. So Knighton at 18 years of age, would have beaten Johnson in every 200m he ever entered except the 19.32 run at the 1996 Olympics. That’s completely crazy.

That's mainly because 19.72 stood way longer than it should have. 19.32 only lasted 12 years. 19.19 is at 12+ and is now "on the clock." That's the reason why Bolt winning the medals were important. When the records go (and they inevitably will), the medals remain.

Don't think Lyles can do it. Because his legs aren't long enough. The record was set by a tall man. It will only be broken by a tall man. And Knighton is a tall man with fantastic turnover. He is only 18. And Lyles is 25. I believe Lyles will improve upon 19.31. But not 19.19.
That will be Knightons moment over the next 5 to 7 years. Imagine him in his absolute prime by 23 to 25.
What Lyles and Knighton are going to do in my opinion is push the Jamaicans Bolt And Blake back to 3rd and 4th alltime. I believe Lyles could go 19.25. And Knighton 19.18. On their best day.

He is in his youth where its easy to train. Just wait until he turns 25+ and its over. Body getting more stiff. Gotta exersice and stretch way more. He will be the next noah lyles and bromell. @@sirrz1267 it's actually not true. An if he can run 19.4 this early his chances of improving are high. Usain was running slower than him at his age. An ended up breaking sprinting records. That is how it works. You get better as you get older not the opposite.

It seems he has a good team supporting him. Erriyon is all about it. Lyles got to get back in the lab. No goofy dances or wild colored hair.
We are very fortunate that NIL money was not available before he signed to go pro track as a high school junior. He just might have elected to go full ahead with college football instead if NIL was available then. Who knows. He may have also did well in the NIL sphere in college track, but football is such a strong draw. It was good timing to catch him then.
