      The problem is that the American public justifies value based on short term gain. The more luxurious and high performing a vehicle is, the more it justifies for it’s expensive price. Plus most Americans don’t buy cars to own it for 20 or 30 years so they don’t see it as a long term investment.
      Something like this could be expensive but yet doesn’t bring the short term value Americans demand. Such as high power output and high luxury. This could work in the USA but Toyota has to package it like the G wagen and make it an exclusive model. They also need to meet government regulations with efficiency & safety by modify it for the US market.

      Unfortunately we have to deal with things like crash standards, emissions, and the horrible reputation that diesel has earned through companies like Volkswagen. This is a vehicle that the amateur mechanic could maintain without ever going to a dealer or lube shop. People buy these because their lives and lives of others depend on it. It's not for mall crawling or a casual weekend trip which most people in US buy "offroad" SUVs for.

    I own a 3 door FJ70 which is basically a box on wheels. It had the 4L V6 which is far too powerful for the size of the vehicle. I had it converted from a manual to an auto and upgraded the suspension to a slightly softer ride to make it more comfortable in city driving. It is a wonderful vehicle and considering that it's from the 80s it's still quite well built. If you can get your hands on one, please do. It's a true off road legend. My brother in Australia has one of these. His has the 4.5 litre single turbo V8, diesel with 5 speed manual. For years they have only been available with the V8 and manual. Soon in Australia not only will you still be able to get the V8 diesel and still only with the manual, but for the first time auto version as well, but you can only have this with the 2.8 litre single turbo 4 cylinder diesel. The 4 cylinder has 50 Nm more torque than the V8, and the same power as the V8. Like you said Kirk they are expensive, but they are a heavy duty version of the Land Cruiser.

But the price will be steep for such a basic vehicle, more than most will want to pay for a daily driver. It will appeal to those who spend more time off road than on. I really like it, but would not buy it as it would be a major downgrade from what I have now, and woukd have to probably pay as much as I did for the LC prado I have now.

    Its a 70 series, but its a 76 series within the 70 series, this is usually for the Mine Execs esp in Australia, Africa, you see them in New Zealand as well, but the most popular by far in Aus and NZ is the 79 series, dual cabs and in AUS the Troopy 78 series! or Troopy Carrier! The V8 VDJ 4.5 single Turbo Diesel engine was the holy grail. Unlike the 300s which is a twin turbo 6cyl,, the 200 series before it was also a twin turbo but VDJ V8. 70s here are mostly manual, conversions are popular in Aus for Autos (AT) but with this it looks like its the 4cyl Hilux / Prod engine, Bonnet / Hood is a give away, as the TDi has the intake scoop, so its supposed to be 6cyl single Turbo option as well as a 4cly TD option, Most wont have that level of interior, that's probably a GXL, here its either a Workmate, basic as basic, a GX, GXL being top of the range, all being available if ya can find one, only single cab has all 3 options, DC 79, 76, 78 Troopy, Workmate and GXL only. I would think the 4cly would pass US emissions, but its probably more to do with competing against American trucks and politically Id say the car companies have too much power and money to allow that to happen. But more for the rest of us as you guys wreck everything good anyways, always got to make it more comfortable, more easy to driver more of everything its not meant to be! Its the irony of wanting something then turning it into exactly what you already have, which destroys what it is and what's the point. Just buy a Jeep.

    Dont take this the wrong way: What is this thing 60k 5:30 that wheel seems out of place to the basic dash. Looking at all of it, id say material, manufacturing it should cost no more than 30k. I know we don't get it and the conversion rate is not the same but still. And for 25k yea its a great ute.

    I remember driving one of those beast in Asia in early 90s. On those days, there was no DEF or glow plug in those vehicles and it takes about a minute to warm-up and go, but no doubt a lot of fun driving the vehicle.

    This thing is awesome! It’s a shame that it isn’t available in the United States. But honestly, even if it was sold here people would be complaining that it looks ancient, ugly, etc., which is sad because this is an immaculate piece of machinery that is used around the world. Like for example, people are complaining about the 4Runner’s age despite it being a reliable SUV. And the top it all off, the SUV would have to undergo changes to make it eligible for sale in the US. The US has some of the most stringent regulations for automakers and Toyota probably wouldn’t want to invest a whole lot of money and effort into homologation process, unless they see potential for the J70 Land Cruiser in the US. Still, I am hoping that Toyota will bring the J70 to the US.

I live in the mountains and do ski/snowboard, backcountry wheeling, camping, fishing, MTB, etc. I need something basic, tough, mega reliable that will get me and all the gear around in the snow, fireroads, some crawling, water crossings, etc. And turbo diesel would be PERFECT at altitude.

    I'm impressed about the fact that, in 11+ minutes going about this iconic vehicle, you didn't mention that this is the first 70 Series (in the whole history of it) to be available with an automatic transmission direct from the factory, which I reckon is sort of a landmark for the model considering that throughout the many years the upgrades were pretty conservative, for the lack of a better word.
    Also, I thought the models with the automatic transmission were only the ones equipped with the gasoline/petrol 2.4 4 cylinders engine, I'm bringing this up because you said the latch on the left side of the front is for filling diesel additives... Does that mean I was wrong, will the 4.0 8 cylinders diesel will also be available with the automatic?
    BTW, the estimated prices that Toyota sent to people placing orders (not quite official orders, more like a pre-) in Australia are heart's stoppers, this very model would be offered for more than USD 65 grands... I guess good comes with a price.

    • @Bigrig90
      @Bigrig90 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No auto in the v8. The 4 cyl is a 2.8 litre engine, comes from the Hilux

    • @Nulla01
      @Nulla01 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I can't believe they skipped over the fact it's the first Automatic for this Series 🤦 I bet the paint is still an ultra thin coat, which encourages rust early. That needs to be improved becauset the GXL price in Australia is $80,000. Pretty hefty price for a vehicle with limited comfort features.

    • @Bigrig90
      @Bigrig90 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The reason that they're so expensive is because a large proportion of the vehicles are hand built. But yes, very expensive for what they are. I want one!@@Nulla01

    • @Bob-Sacamano
      @Bob-Sacamano 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Because that's not true? These were available with 4-speed autos in the 80's and 90's on select versions (mostly SWB 2 doors and some of the 4 door models).

    • @Nulla01
      @Nulla01 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Bob-Sacamano There you go. I researched this and found out they did come out in Automatic on selected versions such as the FJ73 (1985-1992), the BJ74, the HZJ73/77 (1990-1999), and the HZJ74/76K (1999-2004) - I stand corrected. However, this model car has not had auto since 2004 - which is a significant change back for this car in such a long time. That should have been highlighted in their video.

    The problem with this coming to the USA is that the American buying public justifies value based on short term gain.
