The writer should be male unlike with the witcher being female and its not being sexist. Warhammer's fan base comprises of 95% male so having a woman writer might not understand the majority of the fan base and might mock the source material like what the they did to the Witcher.
I agree with everyone saying Henry nailed it but Anya (Yennefer) also absolutely killed it. Especially in the initial episodes, playing the role with her deformity. She was amazing!!
Yeah agreed. I liked them both alot. I never seen the need people have to compare characters/actors like they do. Not even here specifically; just in general
Her acting was great, but I can't get over her facial features. She looks young enough to be Geralt's daughter and I really hate that because as someone who never played the games or anything, it felt like he's having sex with a minor =/. i only knew she was apparently old enough because it said 30 years had past, but it still felt wrong. @Laura Martin-Falla I think a really great and really professional actor who finds him or herself in the position to play the "hunk" "hottie" "buff hero/fit heroine" et cetera should always be able and relaxed enough to handle some interviewers getting a little flustered. To be extraordinarily handsome or telegenic is a large part of what brought them into their jobs and so they should be able and prepared to deal with some admiration coming from the average looking population. Imagine nobody showing any kind of swooning emotions towards actors like Brad Pitt anymore. The whole thing would become boring and loose some of its charme. Dont let all flirtatiousness and charm die just because you feel you have to keep it almost sterile in the face of #me too! Even Lauren Hissrich when asked about the series was happily and teasingly reassuring fans that there would be nudity in THE WITCHER! Just relax a little! End of my rambling.
GLcool A You are absolutely right, we are human beings. And such things as beauty and emotions make our life more colorful. However, check this out: th-cam.com/video/UFpMx4GhAfo/w-d-xo.html And there a lot of other interviews that are really awful
I can't wait for a legit gaming interviewer to get their hands on him for 10 minutes. He clearly loves the Witcher series and talks about his PC gaming hobby openly. Lots of people want to know more about the side of him that has nothing to do with his looks or success.
It's funny how Freya and Anya look like they're about the same age when they're doing an interview and being themselves, but in the series you can see Yennefer as a much more mature woman whereas Ciri is just a little girl. They're both very good for their roles!
Henry's probably ruined it for any actor to do Geralt in the future. He's so good he makes me wait in anticipation for his next scene. I really hope the next season will contain more fighting scenes for him because I thought the first lacked it a bit. "Hmmm"
Seeing how passionate Henry is about the saga and how much he loves all the characters and the story, I am even sadder that he is not going to be Geralt next season
I know why, it's because it's make him more 'normal' and grounded, more like us. It goes against the typical celeb image of them being detached and living in their own reality bubbles.
People who don't play don't understand why we find games, at least some of them, so moving. And it's not something you can explain, you must experience it yourself. So Henry being a gamer makes it even easier to connect to the actor and the character, not to mention it allows him to make Geralt that more genuine.
@@rams3955 you know that's exactly when i knew he isn't talking bullshit because noone that's not a gamer would ever come to the idea to say "i play total war warhammer" hahaha this just proved he is a gamer man

I like the interviewer and particularly how his questions for the women were the same as for the men, about the craft and their interactions with the material instead of what you sometimes see.
It's funny how everyone says that Henry was born to play the Witcher. I remember when it was announced that he would be playing Geralt, and the first images came out, people were so salty! Maybe now they will first give someone a chance before they start flaming...
yeah I wasn't really excited about any of the selections, had I known what a huge witcher fan he was, I would have been softer, but I didn't let that affect my judgement of the show, and I liked his portrayal of geralt, I wasn't a fan of the actress playing yen in my first go through of the show, but as I watched it again, she grew on me, and I think she did great with what she was given lines wise. The only casting I didn't like was triss, I really like the actress (the red head) in the last episode and I can't remember her name, but it's too bad she wasn't 20 years younger, she would have made a marvelous triss. Overall great show, can't wait for season 2, hopefully they're given a bigger budget to work with and some writers who are fans of the witcher games/books who do justice to the characters.
i don't think anyone was flaming him for the casting, there was just some news out with his picture, where he looked so big that people were just grumpy cause geralt is muscle but not beefy, either he dialed it back down or the photo made him look bigger but in the show he is perfection.
Or maybe there are simply different people with different opinions. Did it ever came into your mind, that most of the people complaining about him might not be the same people praising him now?
It's crazy to think that those grunts weren't originally in the script as they're a defining part of Geralt's character and I'm glad that Henry had the foresight to add them into his performance because it was all for the better of the show and his character.
Maybe the interviewers fear for some reason that they would be called "sexist" or they just expect Henry to refuse their request bc he is known to not particularly like demonstrating stuff from his acting repertoire in interviews - remember the arm flexing for Mission Fallout.
Although he isn't the first actor to admit to being a legitimate gamer he's probably the one who has been most open about discussing it without treating it like something to be ashamed of or seeming to try to use it to score points with fans. A lot of people forget that Robin Williams was a huge gamer for much of his life (he named his daughter Zelda after his favorite game, and knew John Carmack of Doom and Quake fame)
True I think it's a great think that he talks that open about, even tho you have to remember that he's legit playing the character of that Videogame in a Show and has to talk about it now
Robin Williams even has a tribute character in World of Warcraft. Vin Diesel is also a non-apologetic gamer, he and Paul Walker used to play WoW together and he frequently talks about D&D, I love when these guys are just massive nerds and give no fucks about it ❤
in another interview, the interviewer said "im not trying to be offensive but when i think of gamers... " and he started spewing the old stereotype of eating dorito fatties. Henry managed that super well and said he loved wearing sweat pants and eating junk food too. I love how people STILL think gamers are a bunch of introverted fat virgin guys when almost everyone is playing games nowadays.
I am really impressed by the amount of respect Henry has for the lore of the witcher. This is the kind of respect i want to see in actors that get the privilege of being a character from such a well established title. truly amazing.
He is for these types of press tour interviews and the celebs really respond to him. Graham Norton still rules the couch based interviews but that's a different thing and the two shouldn't be compared.
Much respect to Freya and Anya for their truly fantastic performances. But man... The difference in how good the character portrayals are is still crazy. Henry Cavill breathes and lives Geralt of Rivia. His knowledge of both the books and the games and his resulting knowledge of Geralt himself, the way he trained both his body and his skills for the visual portrayal of Geralt, every line delivery, every glare and look is Geralt down to a T. Doug Couckle did an amazing job on the voice for Geralt, but Henry did a job at least as great ( and Doug is a professional voice actor, Henry doesn't specify on voice acting alone ). He does all the stunts himself, he trains his ass off while shooting to get the sword fights right ( and to do Geralt justice ) and then in the evening he hits the gym to stay in form. Doesn't matter which part of Season 1 you watch, there's no actor playing Geralt of Rivia that IS Geralt of Rivia. Seriously MASSIVE respect. I've never fanboyed over a character portrayal so hard, and I've seen people like Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan, Christopher Lee as Saruman and Viggo Mortinsen as Aragorn. With this Henry Cavill has become my favorite actor. If you read this Henry, keep it up, you're doing a legendary job and you deserve all the praise people are giving you. I can only hope the show stays this good ( I certainly don't mind if it gets even better ), if the show were to deteriorate like Game of Thrones later it would break my heart. Btw this is literally the best interview I've seen so far, thank you BBC and Ali Plumb, this is how interviews should always be like
Great comment and indeed a great interview. Henry is doing a magical job just like the rest of the cast. What strikes me about this is that the entire production is elevating it's medium to higher level due to the passion and work put into it. I have never seen a show regareded this highly by fans and critics and it's totally justified. I think they are in a massive positive feedback loop that wil only get bigger with time. I hope they will be able to do a move at some point.
I wish Anya could’ve talked more, tbh. Her character actually got me into the show. I relate to Yennefer, and I love her story. She’s not just some pretty mean girl. She knows what it’s like . Yennefer and Jaskier are my favorites lol
Yennifer isn't mean. She knows what she wants and doesn't take anyone's shit. Men don't get labeled as mean when they dont take shit. Women get labed as bitch or mean.
@@emb_ivy I disagree . People who want “everything “ are emotionally immature and lost . “Everything” is death , money , loneliness , happiness, irrelevance. At that point in the show , she hasn’t really done any in-depth soul searching to understand just what she REALY wants . It’s like people who say they want “a lot of money”. They truly don’t yet know what they want. We will see Yennifer grow as a person in the next season :)
@@PrimeReal yet she is ready to endure any pain in the world to get what she wants. It hasn't been brought up enough I believe, how amazing is what he did with the voice. He took inspiration from an established work, and made it his own. I haven't found any fan who has a problem with Henry's Geralt voice. It would be too obvious or cartoony if he straight up mimiced the games' voice over.
I got a bit annoyed at all the Hmms in the show from henry. It might just be because I binge watched it and geralt in the game has hours in between conversations.

Oh, for sure. Her display of emotions, just-oof. She’s a great actress.

Robin Williams used to go to E3 and make everyone laugh during the demos
Chief Smakaho Jack Black

I think that's fair, you don't want to subconsciously skip ahead.
I hope the show gets to the wild hunt.... and does it well it's so big
@@acourierofourhopesandaamer8303 You know, there wasn't really much about wild hunt in the books. Games are kinda not canon. I wouldn't hope for the games story to be shown in the series.
But books also have an interesting story. To be honest I read books before playin' the games and I prefer books' story.
Im literally just getting through the sword of destiny, isnt she meant to be six years old?
I really enjoy seeing the infectious enthusiasm of this interviewer for both the show and the actors. I’ve long been a fan of the books and think HC is perfect as Geralt. Love the show and am looking forward to season 2.
It's awesome to see how much Cavill knows about the Witcher. It's clear he really is a true fan, and I think it's awesome when fans get an opportunity to play a character they really enjoy
Very professional interview, he didn't ask about his looks at all, very good interview
Is anyone gonna ask Henry who he chose in the game? Yennefer or Triss?
I'm only bothered about this tbh 😂
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that he prefers Yennefer :)
Brian Choi he also read the books so of course he chose Yen
@@johanliebert5269 he played the games first tho and only read the books after he heard about the show getting made
The question was "yennefer or tris", regardless of his previous game choices. He only said "Yennefer, because I think there's love in there"
Henry Cavill is an amazing choice for Geralt! The fact that he not only wanted to do the bath scene just right, but the fact that he does his own stunts is what made me respect him as much as I do, especially during one of the Blaviken moments that was intense as all hell!
When an actor goshes for the interviewer. So happy for you, Ali. You're one of the best interviewer!
I actually binge your interviews to learn from you. So amazing!
I can’t imagine Henry not being Geralt, like if it was anybody else I probably wouldn’t have watched 😂
I second Freya: Ali you are a masterful interviewer, always one of my favorites! Thank you for conducting intelligent and thoughtful interviews! Love your passion for movies and how well actors respond to it, makes for great conversations.
