    Another fantastic example of Japanese music education. Three of them, Yukina (growler, high pitch cleans), Matsuri (Guitar, clean vocals), and Hettsu (Bass, backing vocals) were in their high school music club and were a Maximum the Hormone cover band. They were a trio for a long time with a few temp drummers until Sae joined them. They are really young still having recently graduated from college. They have a full album (Girl's Reform Manifest) which is really good, a mini album, several singles, and a bunch of shorts on their TH-cam channel.
    They call their style Harajukucore. Harajuku is an area of Shibuya Tokyo. The area is known for quite a few fashion trends like Goth Lolita and Gyaru.
    It's important to pronounce all of the vowels in Japanese because it changes word meaning. They way a typical American like myself would pronounce it is like you did, but Hanabi (hana bee) means fireworks, while Hanabie (hana bee ay) means a chilly spring day.

    I told you the Japanese rabbit hold was going to be a fun journey. I had a friend watch this MV and his comment was "I have no idea what this is , but I can't live without it." Hanbie for the win.

    "It's just everything all at once." Yup. If you listen to more Hanabie (hah-nah-bee-eh), get ready for more of everything, everywhere, all at once. 😁Metal, Rock, Pop, Rap, Punk. They call their style Harajukucore after the Harajuku district in Shibuya, Tokyo. It's the center for fashion, music, food, art, and youth culture. You can see/hear all of that in their music and videos.
    Here's the lineup:
    *Yukina* on harsh and clean vocals. She is a 4 foot 10 inch, kawaii powerhouse. She looks super cute, sounds like she swallowed a bear. I believe that was her harmonizing with herself (high cleans, harsh lows) in the layered vocals you were talking about. She goes ALL in during the live shows. She leans right into the audience's faces and goes "RaAaWwRrr". Impressive!
    *Matsuri* is the main composer and guitarist. She and Yukina share vocal duties on almost every song. She usually sings the clean choruses. She plays, and is sponsored by, ESP. She usually has a black ESP E-II ECLIPSE BB or the white version seen in this video.
    *Hettsu* is the bassist. She doesn't normally sing during songs except for backing/gang vocals. She also designs all the onstage and music video costumes. She is sponsored Ibanez and plays
    a Premium SR1600B Bass Guitar / IBANEZ P. BTB1825 5-String Bass. Also, she is an excellent gamer.
    *Sae* is the drummer and the newest member. She joined about 2 years ago. She plays, and is sponsored by, SJC. She recently fractured her collar bone, and has had to sit out their last several concerts. On the upside, she has amusing tic tok vids showing her daily struggles attempting to do daily 2 handed tasks with only one hand.

    It is amazing to me that for such a young band (22/23 years old), three of them have played together since the band's formation in 2015. Now with the fairly recent addition of Sae on drums, if these four stay together, their future is very bright.

    You should check out their newer song "Pardon me, I have to go now" (osaki ni shitsurei shimasu) - they're about to tour the US for the first time.. so might want to see if they're stopping nearby, as the EU tour they just finished was a total sell out!
    Matsuri plays ESP E-II Eclipse guitars loaded with EMG pickups.. probably 60+81. Not sure what Matt Heafy plays.. maybe Epi LPs?
    Lead vox: Yukina / Guitar & vox: Matsuri / Bass & sometimes vox: Hettsu / Drums: it was Sae at this time, but they got a new drummer this year called Chika
    "Ey" on the end of Hanabie for pronunciation - hanabi + ey. Cheers

    Really enjoyed your reaction. One of the most original bands from Japan imo.
    I will leave wiki info to other fans but just want to stress that these girls write all of their music by themselves and not a products of big record label.
    These girls also upload many live footages and recommend check them out. You can see they are pretty much themselves in live and MV.

    With Band Maid and Jinjer , Hanabie is my favorite Band at the Moment. The First full Album " Girls Reform Manifest" is just brilliant. I just say Hanabie IS Important , there is so much to come. The other MVs show how differing their Music can be . I love their Cover of Ado´s ODO Ok you asked for it . Hana Bie Ehh ! 🤣 ( sorry for my English , German Guy )

    haha welcome to Hanabie! They are my current crush XD The correct pronounciation would be hah-nah-bee-e... the last e pronounced as in bed or egg. Counter intuitive to a native English speaker as the -ie is 2 syllables in Japanese in this context. They chose the name to reprsent themselves as all the members have winter birthdays except Yukina, whose is the beginning of Spring. Their discography comprises of alot of astute social commentary and if you continue to explore them, I'm sure all their offerings will melt your face in different ways :)

    The young lady with the clean vocals is the song writer. They started performing as a cover band of Maximum the Hormone and won second prize at their middle school talent contest. Gaku Taura, is their producer. Drummer with Crystal Lake a metal core band worth checking out.

  • @2abug
    @2abug ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Yukina harmonize with herself at the beginning. She's doing both Harsh and high pitched vocals (the latter are used in the backing track for the live performances). Hettsu is "rapping" in the next part (exceptionally for this particular song) and then it's Matsuri's turn. Yukina and Matsuri are sharing vocals on all songs (Matsuri is mostly singing the pre choruses or some specific parts song parts). Matsuri is also the songwriter of the band and the lyrics are written by Yukina and Matsuri

  • @arminthielen8570
    @arminthielen8570 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Sorry for the 2. Comment : Yukina is the Screamer ( and Cute Kawaii Voice 4ft 10,6 in Powerhouse ) , Matsuri ( Guitar and Songwriter - Blue hair Clean Voice in most Tracks ) and Hettsu Purple hair. The only track i know of that Hettsu is singing as well. 😂 They don´t give f... about conventional Song Structures or Genres. That why i love them so much. They started as Maximum the Hormone Cover Band in Middle School , and found Sae as a Drummer 2020 . So you might see other Drummers in previous Videos. As far as i know Gaku taura the Drummer of Crystal Lake is producing them .

    Did you noticed that they never repeated a section? Their sound is so wild and fun, really like this band!! 🤘🙂🎸🔥
    Matsuri as far as i know plays ESP guitars. I believe she got an endorsement deal recently.
    By the way because you mentioned Matt from Trivium, did you know he made not 1 but 2 Lovebites covers? Pretty cool stuff!!

    AMAI MY MIND!!!
    You heard three vocalists. Japanese Metalcore band “Ha-Na-Bi-Eh” (花冷え : はなびえ) are Yukina (Vo.), Matsuri (Gu., Vo.), Hettsu (Ba, Vo.), Sae (Dr.). They got together in high school (except Sae, who only recently joined). These young ladies are the most exciting, innovative band going. Check out Reiwa Matching Generation, a social commentary/horror movie masterpiece and L.G.C. (Lollipop Candy Girl). But especially, be sure to catch their metal cover of the pop song Odo (Dance), by Ado. Better yet, do a back-to-back comparison. Both versions are great.

  • @allanmoger1838
    @allanmoger1838 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In this song the first Kawaii voice is Yukina, followed by Hettsu the bassist. The guitarist, Matsuri, is the third clean voice, she is the usual clean voice, she composes the songs. Yukina is the growl/scream/rap girl, although Matsuri’s raps are excellent too, Yukina typical writes the lyrics. Sae on drums is yet to sing in a Hanabie song yet but Matsuri has said she will. The juxtaposition of Yukina and Matsuri is one of those blends that just works, even though it shouldn’t. These girls are not a one trick pony by any means, they have maybe 20 songs out there now and they are all different and all unmistakably Hanabie.
    You’re right that the song is different without the video, all of Hanabie’s songs have a different dynamic that way, and oddly they are all better as tracks in an album lineup.
    Hanabie = Harajukucore = 🔥🔥🔥🔥

    It's actually the "main" singer, Yukina, doing both the growls and the layered kawaii voice, but yes, Yukina and Matsuri (the guitarist) both do vocals on most, if not all, songs. AFAIK This is the only song Hettsu (the bassist) has voice lines on, but I may well be wrong about that.
    EDIT: Oh, if you want to hear some more of their absolutely crushingly hard songs I can recommend Bokkuwasu and Morning MISO Soup.

    Well, if you like vocalists who really get into it and make you feel that adrenaline rush, you really need to watch Hanabie live because Yukina is a tiny, explosive fireball on stage! Check out a video titled "07/16/2022 花冷え。心斎橋DROP"OVERKILL vol9"" for a taste of that!

    For this song (which is awesome like Hanabie is) I just want to repeat my comment from Nemophila song, in the same time excusing myself not remembering this awesome band! Must be I'm gonna miss somebody else, too, but there is so much awesome music all around the world! Maybe more then ever!
    If you like to hear a little more growling girls, you could check interesting Japanese "half-idol" band "Broken by the Scream". Basically 3 man play the drums, bass and guitar (very good!) and 4 girls singing! Two of them "clean section" with clean voices and 2 of them "death metal section" with one high-pitch screamer and one low growling young lady. Sound fantastic crazy, but somehow very good! Their most known song (you could react to that if you didn't hear) is "Sayonara Birthday", but you can find all kind of songs (some of them live) on their channel. Also, you could some of the old songs (I recommend "Light in the Dark" and "Ignite") by Japanese all girl band "Bridear", Initially some growling parts were singing by guitarist Misa (not that one from Band Maid, but another one!), and when she left the band, bass player "take charge" of growling! Thatćs show dedication of those Japanese young musicians! Also, you could check some songs from Swiss band "Ad Infinitum" (I recommend "Marching on Versailles") where you can hear experienced growler Melissa Bony. She colaborated with many other bands, too, but very good song is also "Jenny of the Old Stones" which she did with her side-project band "The Dark Side of The Moon"... I see that you already "cover" Tatiana from "Jinjer", but there are many ladies who know how to growl, and growl good, for sure!

    I just realized I forgot to give a few song recommendations. So, here goes...
    'Love Ranbu' th-cam.com/video/FIyz7iwp6ts/w-d-xo.html The only thing I know about this song is that it's an amazing mix of genres. And there's no video to be distracted by, just audio. I listen to it daily
    'Time Out' - th-cam.com/video/BQRVk_GMYQ4/w-d-xo.html This is an old video, and I think it's their very first. They are fresh out of high school, I believe. Hanabie: The Early Years 😉
    'Reiwa dating Appd Generation' - th-cam.com/video/LOs_Th_qyIs/w-d-xo.html All about the dangers of online dating/disposable relationships. This one leans into the rap more than the others.
    'Odo' metal cover - th-cam.com/video/SPSpXzp3tfQ/w-d-xo.html This is a cover of an Ado song. She is very talented and popular singer in Japan. Check out her version and then Hanabie's. For science
    Finally, 'Our Seven Days War' - th-cam.com/video/PAjQAwbGnqI/w-d-xo.html The hardest song you'll ever hear about PMS. You don't even need a vagina to enjoy it.

    Guitar, voice: Matsuri

    People don't understand. Yukina has really struggled with weight issues. She used to be heavier too. This isn't a frivolous song. Saying there is a lot of social pressure to be thin in Japan is like saying there is a lot of water in the ocean.
    I'm not saying I think Yukina is fat. I'd marry her if you're listening Yukina:) I'm saying that is the standard in Japan.

    It’s pronounced Hanna bee aye, it’s a Japanese thing to pronounce all the vowels. You might check out some of their other songs like Reiwa dating app generation and a few more that don’t have videos that are heavy. This band is young and still learning and building their confidence. They released a new song recently called Neet Game that you might try also.

    This is what you get when Babymetal and Maximum the Hormone have a love child. They actually started in high school, playing MTH covers. Clearly one of THE new metal bands to watch. Most of their songs are quite pointed, concerning social issues like dating app abuse, drugs, human trafficking, cheating etc. “We Love Sweets” is about having an unhealthy relationship to sugar. Members:
    Vocalist (Harsh, rap)- Yukina
    Guitarist and Clean vocals - Matsuri
    Bassist and backing vocals - Hettsu
    Drums - Sae
    They recently dropped their first EP. Their producer is Gaku Taura, who is the drummer for Crystal Lake (another band you should check out). He has his own studio, Soul Japan.

    I got a two fer suggestion for you. Look up Unlucky Morpheus and their double song CADAVER/REVADAC. The band plays the first song CADAVER, then, plays the song backwards, note for note, REVADAC.
    Unlucky Morpheus is a Japanese Goth Metal band they have an amazing vocalist, Fuki, who is a powerhouse. Oh, they also have a Metal violinist. Yes, you read that right, Metal Violinist named Jill. Jill does covers of Van Halen's Eruption, Yngwie Malmsteen's Far Beyond the Sun and Steve Vai's For the Love of God.
