May have talked before about my maternal Grandfather who worked at Maddon Shipyard in Cohoes NY building tug boats, and then PT boats for the Navy. He started as a cook on a tug in the Barge Canal in the early 1900's. He build my Brother and I a wooden row boat we used on S. Long Pond in Grafton NY where we had a family compound. I modified this boat to sail, using an oar on the stern as a rudder, a spruce log as a mast, and chicken feed bags as the main sail. With no keel or outriggers only could run down wind. With my father we later build a bicycle boat on wood and masonite pontoons and adapting a bike frame to drive wooden paddles. In my first summer home from Paul Smith's College my Grandfather helped me build a "Mini Max" hydroplane from "Mechanics Illustrated" magazine plans. Remembered I was baffled how to cut the curved bow of the boat design when Gramp told me to find him a piece of sheet metal which he used to pattern a perfect semi circle on the wood. Purchasing a steering wheel, boat lights and cleats from Montgomery Ward's catalogue, I retro fitted my Dad's 1948 Johnson 5 hp outboard to the stern....and loved I finally could make that little engine plane a boat! Yeah, I get wood boats.
There are few things that are better! I told Mary it's a good thing that I didn't visit Seattle when I was younger, I may have ended up there, so many wood boats!
We need to all get together after this virus thing is over. I'm hoping Kenny and I can build a small boat together in Seattle sometime in the next couple of years.
Wow Amazing!! Thanks for this Scott. As always the filming and editing were right on! Love seeing my good friend, and the owner of the Nibbles in the video.

Thanks! Glad to have you aboard the WBE. It's been quite a trip since that video was made!
