Just now finding this on TH-cam. Very interesting, I live in Redwood and I swear I met speckles the other day at the storage units on Simpson rd lol. I have a wee lassie canoe that my father started years ago amd never finished before he passed. One of these winters I plan on finishing it. I just need a year where I have no commission work or honey do work lol.
@@zacharycullen3677 Zach, I hope you gave Speck some love. I see him often and miss him but the situation with Bill is better for him. I haven’t finished that skiff yet but will next summer and with get the rest of the videos out then. I restored 2 other skiffs which got in the way of that one.
@glassgoat9601 wow it's a small world. First thing he did was bring me a chunk of 2x4, I knew the drill after that. Played fetch with him for 10 minutes. He reminds me very much of my late golden who loved to chase whatever you could throw with the same exact intensity amd seriousness of waiting to chase. Very nice dog and yes I sure gave him some love and wanted to take him home with me lol. Bill is a great guy, I have plowed the storage units for close to 20 years and he kept me on when he bought them from suttons. Best wishes and looking forward to the rest of the videos. I beleive my nieces husband, Aziel has worked with you a little bit too. Nice to know of more craftsmen in the area , I learned alot from my father and continue to try to get better as I go. I have run my own shop and sawmill for a long time and I just find alit of satisfaction in the fact that I have the ability to take something from the woods and turn it into something that someone will want in their home.
Good God don't let your dog drink that antifreeze!!!!!!!--!-
Once they canceled the antique race Boat Regatta this show is a no-show for me! ....
Yank it and have it totally rebuilt at a good private machinist.
One of the best cordless drivers you have there! I have my grandfathers, works great, with little cam-out. Do you use Robertson head screws?
Scott, you are very talented! I learn so much from your channel. That skiff is looking awesome!
That skiff is done as of today! I’ll make a quick video soon of the results. Thanks!
Great job with this repair!
I never seem to find long enough clear white oak so these scarfs are a life saver!
I love watching these type videos. Fascinating to watch and learn the right way to do the things that we take for granted. Always many steps to do things right.
I made several more of these type scarfs on the coaming.
I see this over and over. The use of wax paper as a release agent for epoxy. It is possible to contaminate the epoxy with wax. Just use a sheet of plastic. Epoxy will not stick to the plastic.
In this case, the paper could leave a wax residue on the epoxy surface, but I will wipe the area down with lacquer thinner before sanding and or hand planing it to a final surface. Even if I used plastic, I would follow this procedure as I waxed the stainless screw before inserting it in the epoxied area. Maybe I’ve been lucky, but I’ve never had a fisheye develop in any areas that I’ve varnished or painted after using this method. I have used plastic before but didn’t have any handy.
just a thought, instead of using a commercial grade shop vacuum , I use my Husqvarna leaf blower to get out all the sawdust , debris & bugs !!!
Not a bad idea, especially in a boat this opened up. Maybe only have to end up vacuuming the end you blew it towards. Thanks!
Scott, what a beautiful boat! I can’t wait to see the progress! I hope that you have been out on the Chris Craft! I’m hopefully launching my Thompson this weekend! As always, awesome video!!!
Chris Craft going in soon. Not sure if it will be before this weekend but maybe.
Sigh...yum...I can smell varnish right through the computer screen :)
I smell it right now as I just applied some :)
More repair videos please. That's the only reason I am subscribed. Not interested in boat shows or cruising videos. God bless 🙌
Always a pleasure to watch someone so skilled at maneuvering a big truck!
I agree as I enjoy just about any skill done well.
Hello I have a pair of marine hemi motors that came stock in my 1964 42ft hatteras. I repower the boat with a pair of Detroit motors at 1000 hours on the hemis. They have been sitting for about 30 years with cylinders filled with atf and crank case full of new oil. And carbs drained. Both motors fan flawlessly . I planned on using them someday but now don't have the time. Any idea what these are worth. They are %100 stock With consecutive serial#. And still have the maintenance logs and all the paperwork and repair books for both motors. I have had several people want to buy them but only wanted to pay for the motors without the related marine equipment and transmissions. They wanted to use them as racing motors but I feel they were made to be on the water. I would like to see them live on and get a fair price. Or just hold on to them untill they are even harder to find. But would like to see them on the water again. What do you think these are worth.
Do you have an image of them or serial/model numbers? Need a bit more info.
@glassgoat9601 off the top of my head no I don't know the model or serial. I can look for pictures of them. I do know they are 426 hemi marine motors which were the industrial motor. I have the motors in storage in Portland oregon we just moved to boise idaho. We got tires of the democrap bullshit We plan on going there end of June for family reunion and clean out storage. To haul them back. I may be going back sooner to show them to a guy restoring a criss craft yacht. If you want I can save this and reply back After I get back. Or maybe I can send my storage key to a friend and he can get pictures of the block numbers if your serious about it.
Is Jimmy from around Lake Hartwell area? I’m an hour south between Atlanta and Athens.
His dad’s shop is in Hartwell. Grants Wooden Boatworks.
Thanks for sharing!
Wow, you were watching from waaaaayyyyy back :)
@@glassgoat9601 I watched several videos, just decided to comment on this one. Soooooooo many Beautiful Wooden Boats!
Great video of all the wooden boats. That Jimmy,..dude is awesome. Almost started to cry when I saw that Lyman being backhoed in pieces. If you say it's too far gone, I'm taking that assessment as bible. Thanks for bringing all your adventures to light.
Sometimes you’ve got to let go. I’m enjoying sharing again but next episode is a bit delayed as I’m out of town again.
I hope YOU'RE happy, because I sure am...having you back in the environment where we all originally met :) You in the shop and on the river. Us learning so much every week about the boats we love, and enjoying the wonderful videos which remind us all why wood boats are forever in our hearts and souls and plastic ones, well, are just plastic hehe. Thanks for a great video!
I am happy and will be even happier when weather breaks soon and I can get at it even more! Thanks
A real treat to see boats on the water as I wait for our snow to melt. Your videos on the River truly capture why it’s my favorite place to visit.
Thanks Kevin! It won’t be long now and I’ll at least be on the River with a skiff.
Do you happen to know how long the boat is, how wide the oar locks are and how long the oars are? Thanks!
I think it is 16’. I’ll send Andy an email and ask him for details.
@@glassgoat9601thank you! I really appreciate that.
Great update. Glad to see you getting back into the swing of things. Take your time and enjoy!
I am enjoying, just wish I had more time to get things done.
That whole area is a crystal clear paradise !!! … so glad that I was lucky enough to experience it !!!
I agree!
Sweet !
Thanks!
Good to see you at it again!
Thanks Jack!
Bringing my 58 18' foot Sea Skiff this summer to the show in Clayton can't wait!
Hope to see you there!
👍👍...........
Thanks for watching!
Scott, nice boat shed. I'm envious! I'm going to try to build something similar in the future. I can't wait to see the progress on that hydroplane. I like how you make tasteful changes to some of your boats to make them different than the others. Unbeknownst really came out amazing. I really like how you decked it. That Iron Duke seems to move that boat quite well. Once again, great video!
The boat shed is going to be even better when I fully integrate the container. Container delivery, setup and work so far video coming soon. I have no regrets about building that type of shed. A southern exposure with a clear side (clear SHRINK not clear greenhouse material) is imperative. The wood chips are great, and warm in the winter but can be annoying during certain operations. Let me know if you’re planning one.
Scott, once again that was an incredible video! Thank you very much for sharing it. I live in Buffalo, NY and I have a case of the winter the blues....this video put a giant smile on my face. I'm actually going to crank the heat in my garage and get started on preparing my 1964 Thompson for the season. I joined the ACBS this year, and I'm hoping to attend some events. Cheers!!!
Next episode is a boat show, that’ll get you excited! Congrats on joining the ACBS!
My son says “You have no idea how happy that made me!”
Hope to see you guys this summer.
Good to see you back for 2024 - S5
Thanks, glad to have you aboard!
I’m jealous of your Georgia winter and that’s one cool project.
Thanks Kevin. Georgia was last winter, this year I'm in South Carolina but temperature wise, not much different. Headed back to NY for a short time next week, hope it's not too cold!
Looking good, Scott! Glad the boat went to a good home. And that day when you blast by Joe...I'll be there to photograph it :) - Kent
I've been waiting a long time to put this video out and get Joe's reaction :) Hope you are doing well.
What a nice surprise this morning !
I'm trying to keep them coming, every couple of weeks or so.
Good to hear your voice again. Looking forward to seeing you in the spring and summer.
Tisa and I were talking about you the other day. Hope you aren't too cold in NY!
Staying busy. Our generator crapped out on us and we just got a new one. Big learning curve.
Looks like a great project, thanks for sharing, looking forward to seeing it come together!
I’m anxious to get back to it, but I’ll wait for the weather to improve there, at least a bit.
Great to see you back!
Thanks for tuning in! It’s good to be seen.
Great update. Love the music! Glad to see you're taking care of yourself.
Thanks, good to hear from you. Episode 2 out tomorrow!
It is great to see you back Scott ! Don't over do man my family will look forward to seeing what ever you put out.
Won't be back in the boat shed for a while still but at least I get to create new videos right now. Thanks for watching! I've put a couple of posts on my Patreon lately that aren't limited to members if you want to see some of what I'm doing right now.
What was I thinking...you are on Patreon, sorry, I must be tired.
We missed you1 Welcome back!
Thanks! It's good to be involved again with all of you.
Last view with Sunami wave going over the top making me wonder why no life jackets on?
Damn, I wondered what you had been up to.........glad you are doing well!
Thanks! Sending you a text soon with updates on the current situation. Back in NY soon for a couple of days and then back south. Hope you guys are well.
Good to have you back, but you buried the lede: What a glorious new mustache!!! And a Speckles sighting, too!
I had to take a break and put all of my energy into growing it! Thanks for being a great supporter of the WBE!
Glad to see you man. 🙏🏻
Great to hear from you, we’ll catch up at some point.
Glad to see you back online. I never ran into you last summer. That must be why it never rained! Always nice seeing a glimpse of the river in January!
Hope you are doing well, I did hear a bit about you at our art show in Clayton. We’ll have our dock still in Chippewa this year, but also a dock in Clayton where my Lyman will usually be. Been in South Carolina since just after Christmas, headed back mid February.
Great to have you back, Scott and what a wonderful surprise to see this video. Hope all is well!! You have been sorely missed and many of us have been worried. God Bless you and keep well and safe. Thanks again for your wonderful channel!!😃
It does feel good to be back making videos. I'm also glad I'm where it is warm, but no boat work here. I'll get back to it in March.
Do you ever have your boats take a splash in Black Lake ???
I've never had one of my wooden boats in Black Lake, but I did take my ski boat there years ago. It looks nice, but I'd have to learn the trouble areas before I was to take an inboard there. Is that where you do all of your boating?
@@glassgoat9601 … yes , parents had the red roof log cabin at the Black Lake falls at the old grist mill stone buildings in Rossie !!! … largest walleye that I’d ever caught was right there !!!
Glad to see you back. Looks like you have been very productive in your time away from the logarithm. ;)
I have but you know, you always think about what didn't get done. Good to hear from you.
Scott thanks for the update. Look forward to seeing you on the river soon
Good talking with you yesterday. Let me know what happens with the boat.
Scott, it is awesome that you are back! I have missed your videos. Your boat looks beautiful! I am so happy that you have made progress on that Lyman. I'm looking forward to the next video. Take care!
