OK I guess that is JW Jones on Anderson's Gibson ES-345.. I like the b bop style with the tone of that borrowed 345. A couple good musicians doin' some battle. They compliment one another well. .
Love this. Alex is one of my favorites and has played with the best like Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers and William Clarke! And JW who, I just met online was layin’ it down too. Bass player was fantastic. Wish I could have heard this in person.
Damn! The Kid Must Be Heard! He starts that bass solo sounding like Charles Mingus... wow. Talent on any axe. Lorenzo sounds fantastic as well. Very cool to see these two vids, thanks Laurent!
Is there a Kid Andersen Fan Club? I need to join it. Is he about 6'5"? He's kinda green on the bass: He starts out playing with his thumb, then starts using his index and middle finger, as he should, then goes back to thumbing it, but still lays down a hot solo. He's a real blues cat. I bet those other guitarists are playing the Kid's guitars; I wonder if he just invited them to an impromptu jam. He can handle anything. I watch this clip daily.
I'd say he's using his thumb for a particular sound - it looks to me like he's also palm damping, so I think he was going for an upright bass kind of thing, with short, thumping notes, then opening out the sustain by playing using his fingers.
JW Jones - so much sounds like a younger B B King when he played more aggressively - especially tonewise. In essence it' s the same guitar as Lucile with the active setting. But you can tell that he is just relatively too loud compared to Alex. But the younger wants to outshine the elder...
Never understood the hoopla about JW Jones. Good player sure but no more so than the best player at the local blues jam who might even have a better voice. He’s trying so hard in this video to sound like a West Coast blues guy but exhausted all of those kicks he knows in one solo. He’d have to take a seat if it was a real gig.
5 real musicians have got together for a jam. With the main goal of having a good time and maybe making some money along the way. Meanwhile, some internet nerds, are sitting at home, in their vests, boxer shorts and socks, critiquing their skill level and running them down. Do you think JW Jones is up on that stage with those guys trying to prove to you lot whos a better guitarist?
Alex Schultz is the Tastiest Bluesman out there! So melodic, and in the pocket! What a great collection of musicians on this clip!
