I lived in Jacksonville, NC from 1999 until 2001 before moving back to Jacksonville, Florida (I've lived in 2 Jacksonvilles) but nonetheless, I still have a lot of good memories of nostalgia here. I miss it still! Thanks for this, I subscribed to your channel.
Same here. I lwas stationed Jacksonville NC from 1995 -1997 after a few other destinations I am now in Jacksonville FL but originally from St. Augustine.
I'm from Miami but I lived there by blue Creek Rd for 6 months with my wife(ex) I really miss those days the best of my life I regret to moved back to the stressful life of Miami, thanks to that my wife and I broke up It has been 4 months since we came back and 2 since we're not together, but I love Jacksonville, Wilmington, and the parks are stunning..
I left Jacksonville N.C. gladly after finishing my contract with the Marine Corps in 1994. Other than Onslow Beach on Camp Lejeune I thought Jacksonville was a shit hole. At the time, I hung out at the bars "LEGENDS" and "THUNDERBIRDS". Neither are there anymore as I have heard. Jacksonville was such a depressing place. I was so happy getting back to Massachusetts after doing my time in the Marine Corps. I loved being stationed in Okinawa Japan for a year however!
Station in New River Air Station from 84 to 88 it wasn't so bad usually go to Myrtle Beach come back the cops would fuk with us all the time that's the worst part about Jacksonville
I grew up there. Downtown Jacksonville is where we all shopped back in the day. Great memories. If not for Camp Lejeune the place would be a ghost town. Does it say something about the politicians/leadership in that town? I don't know.
Was station here at New Rivers, never really went into Jacksonville becuz I knew its a dead small town. I'm glad I was deployed for almost 1 year including the work ups and for 2 years I basically sat in my room playing games and never venturing into the city.
Wow! Downtown looks NOTHING like it did when I was stationed at Camp Lejeune in the late 70s & early 80s. The area was alive and kickin' at all times down there. Shop during the day, and party all night. So many great memories and people who worked in the establishments there. It's a ghost town now which is a shame. The state could at least revitalize the area like most cities are doing in other areas.
Not sure about NC, but living in a major city metro where revitalization has happened, crime is the last thing you worry about because every cop in the city and county is there to protect the investment.
haha I practically lived my whole life here! you're driving past my middle school football field at 2:48 haha and to anyone planning to move here, DONT. unless you hate your kids or plan to have none!
@@tandt6869 because this city has absolutely nothing to do to entertain children or even anything that's within walking distance, like libraries or parks. 6 lane roads run all over the town, multiple highschoolers are hit crossing the road. the infrastructure is built for cars, not people, but then again every town in America is lol. it's great for old people but if you want your kids to grow up and actually enjoy a childhood playing outside with other kids, this town is not for that.
@@tandt6869 thanks for listen to my complaints Haha. its truly not a town I'd ever want to spend the rest of my life or raise a family in, especially if you're not a military affiliate, bc onslow beach is the only thing I love about living here.
I was lost through the whole video none of it look like it did in the '70s 73 to 75 LOL semper Fi Marines Court Street look nothing like I remembered that's where everything happened
Eastern NC is pretty economically stagnant. Most of the growth in NC is occurring in the Charlotte and Raleigh/Durham Areas so prices in this part of the state haven't changed much in the past few decades. Jacksonville specifically, is a military town. The economy is dominated by the nearby Camp Lejuene Marine Corps Base.
I was stationed in Jville from 94-97--- got out and stayed there for 2 years as a civilian... loved NC as a civilian but it sucks as a marine.. town is full of young whores.. I used to go to Rumors, Club 108.. great times.. the local beaches were awesome , especially emerald isle.. the strip bars were sublime swine.. especially Driftwood ❤.. local business owners treated young marines like shit though... always trying to swindle young guys out of money.. the further away you get from Jville the nicer NC becomes... Deadpool was right.
Yep, this is what happens when a city is made too automobile friendly and lack any human scale development. The neighborhood needs mixed use, apartments with ground floor businesses and retail, townhouses, sidewalks, real public transit, and passenger rail needs to be reestablished.

I also have lived in both Jacksonvilles.
Camp Lejeune 84-88. Enjoyed my time there.
I remember visiting Jacksonville back in the 90s. It sure has changed...and grown.
Indeed. The military presence certainly has changed things.
Sure has grown up. I loved living there in the 80's. I would love to move back❤
Love this place
Awesome drive through Downtown Jacksonville NC.
I live here and crime is not bad at all here
Jacksonville is not a ghost rime,
The city is growning, as well as the whole Onslow county
It looks really nice there. We are thinking of moving there because it's safe and quiet.
Me too. And the home prices are dirt cheap!!

Oh, it's THAT Jacksonville...
LOL
JACKSONVILLE IS WHERE I RECENTLY LIVED!!!
What made you choose Jacksonville?

I’m here looking to see what Jacksonville is like so I can leave Massachusetts and buy land and build a house to sell.

It’s turning less into a ghost town and more into a criminal town
@@michaelscottspapercompany6373 Yea, I've been keeping up with news in that area. Sad. But then, crime is upticking pretty much all over these days.
@@muziclvr8866 Oh yeah all over the US!
What the state needs to do is start locking up more criminals who've ruined far far too many American cities from coast to coast.

Where was the High Life bar?
Where is the downtown? stores, restaurants and bars?
You might want to do a video on LaGrange North Carolina adjacent to Kinston NC someday.
Have a nice day, from Athens Greece.
What does it look like in fall and winter ??

Didn't know there's another Jacksonville in north Carolina too
Really? We're
Stationed there in 1984 fond memories good and bad looks nothing like it was in the 80s seems like a ghost town it was livelier in the 80s
Downtown isn’t good, but western is still popping!
I was with eighth Marines at Geiger 83 to 86. Can’t believe everything shut down now
Ghost town
I've never been to Jacksonville,NC! I've ridden past Jacksonville, FL but that's it. Good video Mr. Mike
Half or more of the streets don't have signs. You don't know where you are! Most of the jobs here are minimum wage.
That town is "watching paint dry" slow. People too.
Im planning on moving here from Connecticut. I just want it to be decent lol
It is a backwards sh1t hole. If the migrant bus would be dropping off in Jacksonville NC instead of NY, they would be begging to leave the US.
Why are home so cheap there compared to the rest of the state?
