    Pals, I also totally misspoke in this video, when saying alopecia areata I meant to say alopecia totalis. Areata tends to be patchy; totalis is (as the name would suggest) total loss of hair. Silly me. x

    • @Pottymoon
      @Pottymoon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, I’ve had areata (random bald patches) Don’t worry, I knew you meant totalis!

    A tip I forgot to mention: often with fashion wigs the seller will show photos of people who have natural hair that looks similar to the wig, rather than showing photos of the wig itself (naughty), so always try and find reviews where buyers have shown photos of themselves wearing the wig, to make sure that the seller's photos are accurate. x

    Thanks for sharing. I was heavily disabled for two years and still have a few mobility issues now, but they are far more "invisible." One thing I noticed when I entered the disability community is how in a lot of ways we are really only seen by others in the community, but when we are seen by the abled community, we are gawked at. I simultaneously wanted to be seen and unseen at the same time. My worst memory is when I returned to work after recovering from surgery, and the main elevator was broken, and I was physically unable to go up stairs. I could only use the service elevator, but that was on the ground floor, and the only way to get to that was through stairs. So... my workplace put me in a wheelchair and wheeled me down the trash chute, which led to the service elevator. This was at a major university. I sobbed the entire time as flies hit my face and I inhaled the smell of rotting garbage. After this, I said I would not return to the office until the elevator was fixed. And shortly thereafter, I was let go from my job. Now that I am mostly recovered, I am ASTOUNDED how disabled people are completely invisible to most abled people, and I am also exhausted at having to explain why I need to use certain accommodations since I don't "look" disabled. I really appreciate the visibility and conversations you have here.

    For anyone interested: To curly style synthetic wigs, you can use flexi rods. Separate the hair into strands and curl with flexi rods, then dip the hair in boiling water for 15-30 seconds! I’m sure someone on TH-cam has a more elaborate way of explaining this but I’ve curled my synthetic wigs like this since my college days lol. Thanks for sharing with us, Jen 💗

    Call me crazy but I think you look great wearing the first wig with the short fringe. It looked especially good half up. The short fringe made you look fresh and edgy. You totally rocked it.

    • @jenvcampbell
      @jenvcampbell  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      At least if you cut your own fringe too short you can wait for it to grow back; with a wig…not so much 😅

    Thanks Jen for sharing this. I loved the story. Your attitude is inspiring. I too will tell people that it's a wig when they compliment my hair. They say it looks so real, like it's your own. Well, it is. I bought it, it belongs to me. 😁 Can't wait to watch your next video.

  • @bekahhooper9852

    You are not alone. I deal with this also! If you get a wig you like you can take it to the salon and let them cut your wig.

    • @jenvcampbell
      @jenvcampbell  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve been cutting my own hair for the past five years; I’m normally quite good at it but not that fringe 😅 I might consider going to the hairdressers with wigs in the future but in Covid times that’s not an option x

  • @pinkdruidess6236

    Thank you for this video. I'm also losing my hair. I'm a woman with PCOS, and when I investigated my options, they were depressing to say the least. And I have strong reason to believe it's not just the PCOS but an intense amount of stress I underwent for about three years straight that accelerated the process. I'm at a stage where I'm still just trying to hide it, because I've never been someone who works on my hair or styles it. I always just brushed it, so the idea of trying to maintain wearing a wig always felt really intimidating. But the things you've shown here actually look really easy and manageable. I wouldn't have to do much to make it work, and that's a relief to see. So thank you so much.
    Also, I'm from the south-east of the US and really related to "if someone compliments you, brag about how cheap you got it." YES. I was raised to look for deals and to be proud of how little you spent to look cool. ;)

    I loved this vid so much, Jen! Thank you for letting us into your hair loss process and your way of dealing with it. As I’m in the midst of learning to accept and live with my own disability (autism), although very different,I find seeing you be so open and honest about your process really beautiful and inspiring, it really helps me personally. Also, you look incredible in wigs, I could never haha. And the incident you wrote about, I have no words, people can be so hideously disgusting. I wish I could give Aubrey an earful for you tbh. Anyway, thanks as always for your vulnerability, sending you hugs! Xx

    Hi Jen,
    i stumbled upon your channel by accident. Thank you for sharing your experience on TH-cam 😊. I live with Folliculitis Decalvans since my early 20's. For a little over twenty years now. A really mean contemporary, this disease. I shave my head bald because it makes taking care of my scalp so much easier. I don't wear wigs because my scalp is very sensitive. Which is why I prefer to wear chic hats as an alternative. I bought my first hat after a bad sunburn on my scalp with second degree burns. Ouch.

    To all the Audreys and Audrey’s friends: You don’t know what you don’t know. Keep your ignorance to yourself. (Years ago, I met a work colleague in the parking lot and made a silly comment about him using a handicapped parking space. Then he told me he was in the beginning stages of MS. I learned that day.)

    This was so interesting, thank you so much. Someone who has a full head of thick hair I can’t imagine what you went through and yes I’m that frivolous person who want’s to try every wig, every style and every colour. But I want it to be my choice not to make somebody feel comfortable. I love the blue ombré one 💙. I have a hidden disability, I had a spinal tumour removed 5 year’s ago so my mobility is pants. I still have partial spinal chord damage so walk as if I’m wearing incontinence pads that need changing but until I move you wouldn’t know 😊 love the poem 💕

    My alopecia also comes in cycles. For no reason a spot gets itchy and red and then - bald spot. There is no rhyme or reason to it. It is uncomfortable and really depressing. I also have chronic TE that just starts one day and I can lose 1/2 my hair. It starts growing back immediately so I have hair sticking up like Alfalfa until it grows - and falls out again. I was doing chemo and I shaved my head. It felt like revenge! I love your videos.
