    As a dog trainer for almost 20 years & dog owner of many different breeds & mixes. I certify this list as very accurate 👍 being also an avid runner & long distance hiker. My favorite one on this list is the Rhodesian Ridgeback. Simply because it can flat out fly when sprinting & at the same time run a steady smooth pace for 20 plus miles. Most Ridgebacks have a gear that other breeds just don't have. It's innate & can't be trained. You either have it or you don't. Thank you sir for the outstanding video 👍

      @@tommyhuggins1844: congrats! Start off with a good obedience program, lots of strong chew toys (kongs, antlers, horns, etc.), be clear what you want don't want, lots of praise, & go easy on the running the 1st year. Let his muscles & bones develop properly. When possible, lots of dog beaches & swimming the 1st year.

      Would you say they are great for running in an African country with 26 to 34 degree Celsius weather?
      How do they fare with children?

    • @heavilymeditated2263
      @heavilymeditated2263 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@clarenceonyekwere5428 yes they're great in almost any weather if conditioned properly. Very resilient breed. But use common sense of course, a dog can only cool themselves so much. A Ridgeback is good with children if socialized correctly from when they're born. Especially within their own pack. They're super loyal & can be very protective of their loved ones.

      dogs for disabled people would actually be a pretty interesting list, but it would vary hugely depending on what disability you're talking about.
      Dogs for experienced or inexperienced people is bs though. Inexperienced people who do research are often better owners than "experienced" people who've been neglecting their dogs' training for decades, or who've had 5 Spaniels and think they're now ready for an Akita.
      I've known some first time dog owners with extremely well trained dogs, and "experienced" people who had to walk every one of their small breed dogs separately, because they were too out of control to walk them at the same time.

However, that dog was not "high energy" by any means. Just because he was able to run forever, doesn't mean he wasn't equally comfortable sitting around on the couch all day.
      My current dog is pretty similar. He's perfectly capable of running forever, but if I want him to go any faster than a trot, I'd have to drag him.

    I had a Doberman and a Malamute. I also had a Am Staff. Pinsher is German for terrier...BTW. The Doberman was by far the best dog to ride with on my bike. The Am Staff was nice, but he lacked the Doberman's stamina and speed (he could not get over 30 MPH) I was in training and my bike riding would take me well over 30 mph often...but the Am Staff was a great runner otherwise...but could not keep up with my Dobe so I had to decouple them...Let me rephrase that...my Am Staff had a ton of stamina he was just not as fast as my Doberman (nor as threatening looking). My Malamute could run all day but the heat of Florida would get to him...we would have to stop. The Doberman breed was also bred from the Weimeranner, German Short haired Pinsher, and also has Rottie and Greyhound. So you have to train the Doberman to pace with you or he will run off. But once he can pace...the best dog I ever had. My Vet explained the longer the snout the more they are built for running. Shorter snouts have issues breathing when at pace.

      pinscher and terrier have no relationship as far as I know, big difference: in social acting, usecases and caracter. pin comes from old germany and ment the same as now in english. manchester terrier was mixed with dobermann by J. Göller and did big damage to the genetic pool. but only genetic analysis will tell for sure who is who.

    My thoughts:
    A. I am afraid whether the pure hunting dogs such as the pointer and the visla will run next to you, having in mind they are maybe not as trainable as other dogs. Or if they make their own game away from your path, by exploring the scents around them as you run.
    B.i would prefer the amstaf for a city living style and "inside the city" Jogging (if I was jogging)
    C. I would prefer the Rhodesian for "out of the town" running in nature (if I was running)
    D. Would like to see TOP TEN DOGS FOR CITY AND COUNTRY WALKING (as exercise) That is for us who prefer walking as a mild cardiovascular exercise.

None of them by far have the stamina of the breton that i Guess has not been lost on his US Cousin, the brittanny spaniel. Apart of his stamina is a very friendly dog, but it needs long exercise every day.

      Well I was (and still am) a lazy fucker. And then I got a Weimaraner. I can tell you despite all the genetics that a breed carries, the dog adapts to you. Don't get me wrong he still has a lot of energy and I've been 'forced' to take him out everyday for a long walk. My laziness it's starting to fade, un fact, now if I don't go out with the dog I feel like I'm failing him. He runs, he smells, he plays on the woods and the beach for 2 o 3 hours and still has energy for days, but in the moment we go inside the house he grabs my lazy spirit and sleeps by my side until I take him out again or when he wants to piss or so.
      Don't be afraid, a dog well-cared, no matter the breed, will never complicate your life, it will improve ir.

    in my opinion as a runner, who runs with dogs since years nearly on a daily basis, the first few breeds are not rly ideal for running. He mentioned it, but prey drive and searchability (like most working retriever will provide) is something u absolutely want to avoid in your companion, if u want to have a nice calm jog, or run. But the last breeds are totally awesome running partners. The best breed i was running with was indeed a female weimaraner. Pointer are definitely the best category of breeds for running purpose. Poorly i hadnt the oportunity to run with a viszla yet, but i had a husky, german pointer, Jagdterrier, Aussiemix, Weimaraner, and now im running a Lab-Pitbull mix. My Aussie-Berner Sennen Mix was also great.

      @brennangibson7199 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Richard Santana bottom line no mastiff is a good running partner. There may be a few exceptions like some more athletic dogos but running for long distances with a big corso will tear they’re joints apart and there stamina is not very good and you will have to stop running at least every 10 minutes to let them breath and drink water.. and being a Mastiff breed they can’t breath as efficiently as other breeds like Shepard’s and pointers and retrievers which are the most ideal breeds for running. Basically what I’m getting at is a cane corso would never be a good running partner unless the runner is obese and can’t run for long either. Canes are meant for power. Not for endurance and that’s what running takes.

Every once in a while her prey drive kicks in but she is so loyal that after 5 seconds of chase she always runs back and catches up! I’d put a ACD on here for sure. Plus, they are part dingo, they are super resilient to nature.

  • @Grassroots_Hegemon

    I haven't finished watching but I really hope that Doberman makes the list. They have a ridiculous amount of stamina and they pace themselves well. Shepherds are good too but in the heat their double coat makes human running temperatures a bit uncomfortable for them and they can Tucker out from the heat sooner than really serious runners may like. Dobbies love a long run and they have the stamina and obedient nature to keep up for a very long decent pace run. The short coat bias on your part seems very wise in my experience, at least in PA where we have 90 degree extremely humid temps. But my GSD loves to run in the cooler temps, but depending on how cool the temperature is, my stamina can diminish before his sometimes.

    • @stuarth4296
      @stuarth4296 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      He completely left them off despite the fact they were bred from the Weimeranner and the German Short Haired Pinsher (and the Rottie). Amazing exercise dogs to run with and their stamina beats every dog he listed. Except the Malamute, but that coat makes him impractical for most southern states. Of course greyhounds are very fast but do not typically pace.

      He obviously has never got on a skateboard or bike with a Doberman. I have owned several and several Pit Bulls. They are both good dogs for riding with but once the Dobe learns to pace he can run further than the Pit who has a shorter wider snout and will start panting after a few miles and you have to stop...Let me stress, Pit Bulls will not stop, but you have to stop because the panting becomes too much. The breed never stops at anything LOL. Dobes go on and on and on...they not only run further they run faster. Every single Dobe I had could beat every Pit I had running. APBT are great for a few miles...Neither breed may be great for the novice exerciser due to their high prey drive and you have to train both (especially the Dobe) how to pace. However, Dobes were bred for running MUCH more than Am Staffs were. They were personal protection dogs that Dobermann wanted to be mobile and able to patrol large areas of land.

Malamutes also are dog aggressive for the most part, which means you will have issues in any confrontation. They can run forever, but hate the heat, and do their own thing.
