A requiem for our Oceans, and Her most magnificent inhabitants. If this song doesn't both thrill you and break your heart, you need to go spend a month at sea... The harmonies here are just amazing...

I agree Tom, but this song, with the very emotional Music, and Lyrics, seems to me incomparable. I had a good deep, lengthy cry over the thoughts and feelings this tune resurrected from deep inside. It's all so heartbreaking, when I think and feel it.

Although this wasn't originally a CSN song (Crosby and Nash did it with James Taylor on their duet album), I still love the way that CSN does this song exactly the same and it's still just as stunningly beautiful. The only sad part is that nobody heeded their call in the seventies and now the song is even more relevant today! Maybe one day, the whole world will listen to this gorgeous, sad song together and vow to change course! ❤😢

The original is great but Stephen Stills' baritone makes this complete. It still brings tears to my eyes, especially as we lost David Crosby. God bless Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (whether present or not).

I have cried a few times listening to this tune over the years, not just due to sadness of what we do to our oceans and natural environment, but as an allegory to what we do to ourselves and each other daily.

The Whales as Keepers of the Akashic Records of the Planet and the Original Ancestors and Earth Keepers. Like the bees, when they go we go.
In 1974 Graham Nash wrote this song. In his own words, these are his reasons why.
"Let me set the scene for you. It was my first sail. On that journey, I saw a blue whale. It was insanely lucky to even come across a creature that was half again as long as David's boat, and David's boat is 70 feet. That's why I wrote 'Wind On The Water,' because we were killing these things, apparently for food, which sounds preposterous.

You can clearly see and hear Stills playing guitar, though the original recording was in the Crosby and Nash album, "Wind On the Water." Stills isn't credited for playing on the album version, which includes a collection of Laurel Canyon royalty, with James Taylor playing guitar and providing background vocals on that track.

Long thought this song would make a great soundscape behind a film remake of Melville's "The Whale," aka "Moby Dick," done by the likes of a Cameron or Spielberg. First time I read it I was struck by passages that indicated to me the author was no fan of whaling and pulling for the whale.

    • @jonball49

Spot-on correct. It is from a Crosby and Nash album from 1975, "Wind on the Water". However, Stills seems to have performed it with them at least on this live recording, and possibly at other times.
