My fathers family comes from Barnsley, in particular Cudworth. We have lived in New Zealand since 1964, I was four when we immigrated. I managed to get to the UK and Barnsley in 2010, met a few of my relatives for the first time. Anyone with the surname Lincoln or Lincoln-Lisle Im related to apparently. It was awesome visit and visited my great grandad's grave in Cudworth cemetery.
Wonderful story mate. I’m glad to hear you made it over to meet long lost relatives. I’m sure you will agree that the folk around these parts are genuinely lovely, warm, welcoming people.
@AbroadYorkshire absolutely agree, even though I struggled with the strong accent the people where so welcoming especially meeting relatives from New Zealand. I lived in Lancaster (Barnoldswick) for five years till 2015, again the people are awesome.
I'm ex Sheffield and lived 15 years in Barnsley, it's a great little Town, the people are super friendly and the centre has been redeveloped and is a far cry away from the dump Sheffield has become. I'd never return.
I'm so proud of my town. It used to be a shit hole, but Barnsley Council has invested in regenerating the town centre, and now we have people coming from far and wide once again to visit our town with coaches on a daily basis not only visiting the market but also visiting the amazing Glassworks Square and Shopping Centre. There is always something going on in town, whether it's the Barnsley Continental Food Market, Barnsley Bright Lights, Barnsley Christmas Market and European Food Stalls or BarnsleyLive. There's always something going on in town and I'm proud to call Barnsley my home.

Not a lot to say really Cheryl. I fell into it more than anything. Working with ages 14 upwards.
