@@emmanuelmathews1718 They want to give the firefighters 650Million extra to pay them more. That means reduced services across the city in other departments to pay the firemen. Less potholes being fixed, libraries, schools, police, everything.

Only Sheriff's are voted in not Police Chiefs. This is why you must be careful as to who you vote to be Mayor who selects the Police Chief.

Well... as much as I appreciate the general democratic bent of your comment, clearly voters rarely do a better job than the RIGHT person or persons appointment someone. Look at the 2016 presidential election for example. It was essentially a 50/50 tie but Trump got the nod via electoral college shenanigans. But Trump is just one in a LONG line of "elected" officials who where either crooked or incompetent--or both. (Sylvester Turner comes to mind immediately on a local level... and Richard Nixon on a national one.) What is REALLY needed is both Transparency and Accountability. We have NEITHER of those in Houston right now--at ANY level. And until we do, it will just be business as usual.

The entire HPD should feel shameful, because if he knew the Officers working those cases knew, Acevedo flew to Miami and SLY TURNER knew so Finner is the fall guy, but getting rid of him will not change the status of those cases, I am praying for Satterwhite, because he cannot quick fix this either, I am also tired of hearing staffing shortage excuses, well the Taxpayers should have been told do not pay taxes because we cannot serve and protect, and lets not forget about the Union Chief all he want is membership dues, he knew too and should have advised the public, they are all in this together!!! And our worthless State Legislature needs to start funding the things our state needs, like police and jails.
