I first heard this song around 1960 and have heard many versions since. Without a doubt, I haven't heard anyone sing it better than Leila. What a terrific voice.

You know if you do the lyrics from Bob Dylan's version it's both from a woman's perspective AND it's public domain? Just saying, I'd be happy if you released it and it'd cost you nowt in copyright fees
@Wobbz9413 there is no copyright on the music, but the Animals version was their own variation on the lyrics. You wouldn't get far into your release without a call from the solicitors if you used their lyrics. Bob Dylan used the trad lyrics, hence my advice
@@Wobbz9413 I'm afraid you're wrong For instance, there are parody versions for different towns and every person who writes one owns the copyright to their own lyrics in their version, as they created them There are many versions in the public domain, but if you wished to, you could write a version and it would be protected too The Animals used some trad lyrics, wrote a verse of their own and fiddled with others, so it's their lyrics Having released a fair few trad numbers, many come a cropper with this, including myself once with over the hills when I used the lyrics from the version used in Sharpe, which, despite being centuries old, uses verse lyrics written by John Tams
You do have a flair i will grant you that. As for the song it was wonderfully done. You were superb. Just wished it was not been done on the street. I will gladly take your version over all others. Just you and your guitar. Maybe in a public place but not the street. and at the end have a small girl come up to you and say something that fits the situation. I don't know...that's what i see.
