    Around here fencing companies pay approximately $14 an hour and it’s hot, hard work. Although it’s not rocket science sometimes you need to be a problem solver when it comes to fencing. Meanwhile there’s an Amazon warehouse just down the road that will pay $15 an hour for someone just off the street to do a job that will never require any skill or critical thinking. I’m considering contracting myself but could never even contemplate working for anyone else at the average rate of pay. Why is pay in this industry so low if there is so much demand for fencers?

      Because raising wages to attract quality team members means having to raise your prices, and that seems scary. The truth is that if you're doing premium work you can charge accordingly which means you can pay accordingly which means you'll attract quality team members who will take pride in doing premium work. Instead everyone gets stuck in the race to the bottom: under-bidding jobs, thin margins, low wages and problematic employees.

      Wouldn’t it be a marketing angle informing your potential clients you’re paying your employees $20+ per hour?

    So I have just recently started on my own. Basically I live in a new area and struggling to get my name out there, and have you ever heard anyone Pounding cedar split rail or dowelled rail.

    • @SuccessfulContractor
      @SuccessfulContractor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I thought about this a lot and I have not tried it for one simple reason, there Isn’t a way to get the rails in between the posts as you drive with a mortise and tenon system. Unfortunately these systems are still dig and set the hard way 👎

    As always gentlemen, great video and great information. I'm still in the process of implementing things I learned from you guys and everyone else there this year. But it is slowly coming together. Thank you for your time and knowledge 👍

      No more owner provided RedBrand on hedge posts would be a start 😉. Keep at it and you’ll get where you want to be.

      @@SuccessfulContractor haha o no, I stopped doing oner provided stuff 3 years ago when a guy decided to short me $10k labor bill rite after I first started.. and hedge posts I don't do, but I know I have lost jobs to local guys who are bigger contractors then me because I flat say I wont install them.
      My biggest problem is time management and how long things take and charging accordingly. And charging what my work is actually worth not being in a strictly price competition with everyone else around.
      I'm winning the pipe brace battle finally, now just trying to make the jump to hi tensile 4ft net wire with barbed wire top and galvanized posts. I have ideas on how to make it work. Just trying to find the best way to implement them.

      Get into a local business group and you should have plenty of options. Look into Vistage or something like that.

      That varies state by state and city by city. I would begin by calling your city building department. They can get you moving in the right direction.
