Indian Raitha Right Vs Indian Pure Traditionalists Right is what you see in India... Prof Babones in sociology is like a less raging version of Prof Anand Ranganathan, spits stats and then makes comments but with a smile and chuckle. Really like listening to him, quite levelheaded and consistent. His comparison of India with Sub-Saharan Africa was eye opening to me, we are socially advanced but productively not so much. Quite cool. Please bring him again on the podcast.
Dr. Babones is right when he says, Congress has neglected the growth of India, for decades. The BJP has developed that growth in the last ten years only and that tells alot about a party that wants to move forward. He is also right, when he says that, government should remove unneccessary red tape from the agriculture sector. Red Tape in India has blocked much progress throughout the decades.
You are right about neglect by Congress. Red tape is a 70 year chronic disease. The BJP should be given one more term at the least to change the scenario.
J. Michael, who are you fooling? No matter how much we may now criticize Nehru's policy of big dams based on the USA's Tennessee Valley Corporation, or the unwanted fallout of the US-led Green Revolution of the 60s, we have to acknowledge that Nehru's foresight helped India stop importing foodgrains, even as his good relations with USSR helped India build its state-run steel industry, hydel power, and nuclear power plants. And it was a Congress government at the Center that pushed thru the 73rd and 74th Amendments that created a third tier of governance at village, block and district levels. An earlier Congress government made participative district level planning a core strategy of its Planning Commission - which led to the Commission itself being abolished by the Modi government. This good professor should see some films that have been made on India's "Final Solution" to its "Muslim problem." Indoctrination by the RSS has helped communal Hindu formations run bloody pogroms against Muslims where the police stand by and do nothing. Christian churches and their priests and nuns have also been targeted for abuse and often torture, but tend to keep quiet about incidents as they work in remote areas with the most underprivileged former 'Outcaste' communities. But he must remember the case of Graham Staines, leprosy doctor serving remote tribal villages who was burnt to death along with his two small sons as they slept at night in their jeep. The right wing local political activist who incited this act was promptly made a minister of the BJP.
Modiji has done, achieved all that Indians wanted. Bullet train, beautiful varanasi, terrorism free, digital India, better trains, better railway stations, better education, peaceful kashmir. He has derived. Everything
@@joyaroy8532 Yes, I understand, those early days and how Congress helped to build up India's infra structures in those early days. It's a stepping stone to all that is being developed in India today. India is a multi facet religious country with every conceivable ideology one can think of, so, religious turmoil will always be there, mostly among the illiterate masses that can be brainwashed to suit the politicians accordingly. Hindu/Muslim riots have been there, even before independance. (That's how the partition of India took place). Pakistan is not a country, it was created on a religious divide, but many Muslims, still choose to remain behind which was a mistake. They should have all been forced to leave. Hinduism is based on Ahimsa, which means, Non Violence. This was mercifully exploited by the Muslims. Islam is a forceful ideology and want all the world to be converted by any means. Christianity uses soft power and money. Hindus feel threatened and marginalized, so, fighting back, is quite normal. Islam and Christianity are the most violent of all other ideologies. Religions have killed and slaughtered more people, throughout history, than all the wars put together. Since, we are not programmed to think alike, we, get groups that force their beliefs on others, no matter how it's done. But, I will not condemn everyone, it's the hard core fanatics that go after the others and vis a vis. I need to be fair, because, I am human first. What I believe in, is personal. It's between me and God. I am not interested in what you believe in. Let God do the judging in the after life, that's His duty, not mine to judge my fellow men. Live and let live I know, it's a tall order, but hopefully, we will go on to the next level of wisdom and peace will reign among me. But, it will take more time, much more time. Meanwhile, the killings on every side, will carry on, in the name of all the gods.

Seen and heard Prof Salvatore for the first time and become admirer of his knowledge and honest portrayal of what he feels about India and it's people..
Till 1820, India was a Sona Kee Chiria with the second-largest economy in the world. What a pity today we are compared with Sub-Saharan Africa, and we feel good about it.
Indian Folklore: The doors to the fortress always is opened for invaders from within and this is always true for India which has more internal so called intellectual enemies than from outside. We educated Indians have now become smarter and as rightly said by the learned professor, we have to solve our own problems and must keep working collectively on building a new world superpower within next 25 years. BJP government is doing a great job in this direction and we all as true nationalists must support our elected government in achieving that Indian dream of regaining our lost glory and honour in this world. Thanks again Smitha for this wonderful podcast as usual. Vande Mataram 🙏 Akanda Bharat ❤ Jai Hind 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
Dr. Babones I am living in New York right now. But let me bow in gratitude, for putting your voice for us Indian on the world platform. This will go a long way in helping us shed this false narrative doing rounds. 🙏
Hi...pls arrange a meeting of Mr.Babones in the next OCI holders or green card holder indian and anyone who is really interested in the Growth of India with positive perception. We all need to make him heard across globe
This is arguably the most critical podcast that Smita Prakash has done since she started. The Indian media should take this debate across the world. All public opinion and a 360 degree analysis may well be done on this cast. Let there be a brutally honest objective assessment of his expositions. Once we do that , the spin put up by the global wokes that the Professor's views are biased will be exposed as vacuous. It is time we put our national counter narrative based on empirical bases and fought this engineered India bashing and Hinduphobia.
Smita ma’am is simply great as a host. Salvatore has been able to articulate his position in a much better way in this one single podcast compared to all the events, litfests and conclaves. His understanding of India in such less time is astounding
He won me over at 45:25 . “India is an extraordinarily Nationalistic Country.” Yes we are Sir. We are the descendants of who fought 100+ years for freedom. Jai Hind! Jai Bharat! ❤
Dr J Shankar is showing a Mirror to the Hypocrites and he’s doing a wonderful job. In fact he’s the only one person who isn’t afraid to Call Spade a Spade. The rest of Indians in the Government and Diplomatic Services including the Indian Diaspora are TOO TIMID. Time to wake up and stand up for India and Indian Culture.
I will never forget him defending India, its system, its government, its people against Rajdeep at India Today conclave. Outrage for Rajdeep and gratitude for Prof. Babones fills my mind whenever I think of that incident.
First time in my life I see India is heading in the right direction as a nation, its searching for its roots and trying to hold a tight grip to its soil, Hindus are realizing about the political traps and tricks played with them to keep them divided, separated from others, the depth of Muslim appeasement in the name of secularism. Modi is successfully able to turn wheels in the right direction and give it a momentum that it will drive itself. One more term of Modi which is bound to happen will change the scenario completely. And he has done it completely in the framework of the Indian constitution, law, processes, procedures, practices and conventions. He has never deviated or bypassed anything and hence none of his decisions which were challenged in the Supreme Court has gone against him, CAG also was not able to sight any irregularities during the audits. We are proud of our prime Minister Modi, finance minister Nirmalaji, EAM S Jaishankar, HM Amitji, Railway minister Ashwiniji, highway minister Nitinji, energy minister Piyushji. We are proud of all those who are manufacturing high-speed railways, satellites, vaccines, medicines, missiles. I am proud of being Indian, from a land of rich culture, knowledge, research, spiritual attainments, a land who is mother of music, vocal, dance, performing arts, plays, literature, sculptures, amazing architectures and civil engineering, amazing textiles and arts and crafts. There is no country in the world as rich as India.

The interview was excellent, and it appears that the interviewee is well-informed about the current situation in India. It's regrettable that some so-called "intellectuals" write biased opinion pieces about India while comfortably sitting in air-conditioned rooms in foreign countries.
Great interview. The challenge is for American media and officials to start understanding India properly beyond all the propaganda. This is a large, uphill battle and the diaspora must start getting involved to start changing these misperceptions of India. The good news is that many are now waking up to the gravity of the situation and are beginning to make their voices heard. As a result, I hope to see an more accurate coverage in American media in the coming years.
I don't think any of you naive Indians have ever spoken to members of the Indian diaspora before. These are Indians who left our country to enjoy life in first world nations. What exactly do you think these so called Indians think about India? I have multiple friends who are in usa, Canada, uk, one of them is doing mtech in Stanford and trust me, they are more anti Indian than some Pakistanis. They hate india, they openly told me they think India is a poor loser third world filthy country. Do you honestly believe they will work to make our image better in foreign nations??? 😂 If anything they do the opposite, they are most likely chatting with white people telling them what a sh*thole country it is, and they are so thankful they managed to escape it.
Interesting podcast. It is the Indians living abroad that give india a bad name, especially the ones that are born outside of India, they’ve no connection with the country other than their parents who migrated. They’re the ones that take a strong stance against India. It kills me see that happening and see that all the time. I was born in India but have lived in the US most of my life but I still love India and very well connected.
I find Prof Babones to be the most fact based, scientific observer on India. His statements are rooted in empirical evidence, well researched data and not merely opinion pieces. I wish we have academics in India on either side be equally fact based and not comment based on lived experiences of an echo chamber. Thank you sir for showing the way
Ma'am your research is so thorough that the critics have no option but to shut their mouths. Your love for India is unparalleled and we love you for that.
Pankaj Mishra, Arundhuti Roy, Rana Ayub, Kancha Iialah, in the journalistic fields are anti-Indian. Romila Thaper, Irfan Habib, RN Sharma, DN Jha, Harbans Mukhia in the historical fields are also anti-Indian.
The best part of intellectual people like him from outside is they can talk at length and breakdown their perspective without hurling derogatory words or getting into any agenda because they have put in time to research on the topic before speaking up.

He should have been asked WHY does Washington post choose Rana Ayub to cover India. Its not as if there is a shortage of English speaking Indian journalists.
It's the ideology. Extreme left wing is very motivated to tarnish Hinduism and India. They have no guts to take on China and shamelessly support Chinese fascist government. Likewise, they have no guts to take on Islamic fundamentalism and will support them instead.

@@vaniganapathi830 It is because Rana Ayyub's narrative fits with the overall narrative of Washington Post and NYT, which regards nationalist and populist leaders like Trump, Bolsanaro and Modi as destroyers of democracy.
I'm sure that if Mr. Babones had seen what rank India had in the press freedom index, he would be really disappointed. This was a real eye-opener of a podcast. This is my first time viewing this podcast and I must say that it was really nice. As for Mr. Babones' take on India, I'm impressed. Few intellectuals can embrace the reality on ground as he can.
Pakistan freedom indox is higher then India.... freedom of press index lol my foot... imraan Khan is arrested, civil war goes on... America and European countries are silent... Hippocrates...Bunch of jealous western morons
I had same feeling about RSS as this professor. We don't have Hindu youths in millions joining it and brandishing AK57 like Kashmiri youth of bygone days! Most are middle age Hindu men doing exercise in park or once in a while disturbing Valentine day!
What an illuminating discussion. Good to see some vindication of my position from someone who has the merit to give it the necessary credence. I am a South Indian Christian also, like another person commenting here, and I have never experienced any discrimination worth speaking about. On the contrary, I am delighted that a party has inspired such a large majority in India to feel pride in their country and their roots. This pride and self worth are the fundamental building blocks for a productive, non corruptible, and socially conscious citizen. The harm our so called intellectuals are doing to vilify BJP is truly self destructive. As minorities, we have a duty to join hands with the benevolent majority and not portray ourselves to be the enemies of that majority. There is fabulous accommodation of minorities in India...no doubt about it in my mind. Let our legitimate opposition in India be free of identity politics! Let's examine and expose the policies and efficacy of our government based on policy failures.
Smitaji you are a seasoned journalist and interviewer par supreme. Another in India a news presenter is Palki Sharma. Styles different, but happy to listen to you two outstanding women of India. Hope you will receive a Padma Bhushan.
Dr Salvatore, however articulate, should also consider that those intellectuals are deliberately given platform in western media and otherwise opinion about about india articles would have had same diversity as the sample of indian diversity of thought. These news portals and indexes are overwhelmingly negative and act as pressure institution and are direct threat bcs of massive softpower the western societies enjoy. Indian society having insecurity is not paranoia, nobody in india had cared if these indexes were from Congo( less impactful than us), indian insecurity comes from experience with massive waves of colonisation that society has suffered and these institutions are form of neo colonialism.
True! Also there are multiple articles published in these western media, which portray negatively about India but written by foreign intellectuals . It's just that they choose only negative articles which suits their narratives. This man cunningly say we Indians are against Indians white washing his country's company's I'll thoughts
That's precisely the case. The fact is that it's the west which actively seeks those intellectuals who have a certain political leaning and even grooms them. Harvard is the den of such snakes, even Indian CJI was groomed there.
In other videos, Prof. Babones has talked about the overwhelming bias in most Western universities and institutions towards a kind of militant liberalism, that has succeeded in drowning out conservative voices or any voices, who do not agree with their so - called liberal viewpoints. Democracy means listening to all voices; however, most liberals seem to have forgotten this completely and are indulging in full scale cancel culture.
What a data oriented guy, Prof. Babones is! So Impressive! It's professionals like these that India needs to counter Anti Indian media outlets & Western forces. I dont know why there are not many Indians who give such logical data based rebuttal, as Prof. Babones. Can this guy be atleast hired as a consultant by Indian government please?? Coz clearly the government is incapable of facing the anti Indians head on with facts.
Yes! High time someone funded Prof. Babones's think tank India Century Roundtable. If rich Indian corporates aren't going to fund him, then who will? Where are the rich BJP supporting businessmen when you need them?
@@MaTara01 100% Great point👍🏽 Look at how detailed he is while being equally balanced. He isn't one of those who would just pick a side & rant in their favour as we see in many Indian media outlets today that are widely seen as BJP supporter. Prof Babones on the other hand, calls spade a spade, while using data logic & rational to counter the anti India rhetoric, instead of beating around the bush. The only person in government I see who talks on data & fact, is EAM Jaishankar. Rest of them simply sound jingoistic. It's the world of DATA, when will the government of India understand it.
@@tECHnOpinion. I agree with you. Having Prof. Babones in India's team will really help to change the India narrative. He has already managed to influence Australian journalists about India, as he says. If he is properly funded, he will produce data accurate, balanced reports on India and communicate them to the India - illiterate Western journalists, which these "gora" journalists would believe because of Dr. Babones's expertise in his field and a great communicator. Funding his think tank should be a no brainer for any rich, patriotic Indian.
How refreshing to hear an articulate professor sharing a nuanced reading of a nation he does not fully comprehend and clearly proclaims that as a disclaimer.
Well informative, non biased discussion. Am very much happy to listen this podcast of you for first time. I stumbled on your podcast accidentally during my classroom learning and had to take a break and listened in one stretch continuously. Good work
Dr. Babones, much gratitude to you. I just can’t express my gratefulness for your unbiased opinion and the temerity to call a spade a spade without meaning to offend anyone. And please don’t bother about people who are offended by truth. They are not worthy of anything meaningful or plain factual. 🙏
The fact is that the west actively seeks out those indian intellectuals with a certain political leaning and provides them platform while shunnig any counter-voice. The reason mr. Babones was ruffled by Ranga sir was precisely this! He keeps wrongly insisting that the west has such poor stance on india because of certain indian intellectuals, which is only part true as explaned.
Dr. Ranganathan wasn't very good at interviewing Salvatore at all. He was on his own soapbox and didn't allow his guest to speak much. It was a total fail, except for the comic element, which was brilliant.
@@kuldeepgaurav1419 The Rs 10 note joke is totally Ranganathan thing, Babones just played along and it was entertaining as hell. Having said that, let's not be so slavish as to think every word coming out of a Gori chamdi is wisdom. In this present context itself, mr. Babones constantly harps on how it's the Indian intellectuals who are responsible for the western narrative on India. He should be asked why is it that rana ayyub was invited for unesco event? Particularly, since she has shown herself to be imbalanced and called out by another panelist. How is it that the western media constantly finds only persons with a particular ideological leanings within India? Are we to truly belive that such huge media corporates don't have knowledgeable people who actually bother to go and learn about a nation's politics as hugely impactful as India? That they'd bother to read up on the political spectrum on India and provide a fair representation? Babones wants you to believe that and you are sucker if you are falling for it. Just imagine how prima facie dishonest he is being!!
@@MaTara01BTW It (the 10rs note bit) wasn't entertainig as much as patronising and what really set of ranga sir, as i said earlier. But this isn't the focus of the point I was making which is that west isn't duped like a naive kid as babones seems to be suggesting. They have a particular agenda which pushes those narratives which serve their geo-political interests and the bjp government is not.
Amazing interactions. He is so clear headed that it seems like watching a rainbow with blue sky in the back ground. Today it self I had a discussion and had to fight back on the regular narrative of Modi being an islamlphobic. Shared this video to give a perspective based on data and facts.

I doubt very few social scientists in India have such vast, detailed knowledge about Indian politicians, and social, economic affairs of India. A great intellectual 👌.
9:00 - That is because the southern states in particular have been subsidizing their administration since independence, more after the 1971 census and especially after the 1991 economic reforms. If the contribution from the central tax reserves were to be taken away, even now UP and Bihar would be no different to Ethiopia or Rwanda even in terms of public infrastructure. Even if you take the railways, the number of passengers who would buy tickets would be significantly lower than in the south.
Many West and North Indian states also do the same. Yes Bihar and UP had been poor but bcoz of their politics mostly. People tend to compare by being ill-informed bcoz of their prejudice.
@@eksatya I second that. Plus people in north are invaded, looted, their peace was disturbed continuously for 1000 years. When there is constant disturbance in socio-political circles then it is given that economy, growth and progress will be hindered. So we in south are indebted to our Northern brothers for giving us time and space to grow. We owe significant part of our growth story to the north Indians who protected us and gave us all necessary things like a Mother. So the political discourses in south esp TN and Kerala are fit to be thrown in dust bin. I am from TamilNadu and I am happy to share our taxes with North Indian states as I feel indebted to them for giving us all motherly protection for at least some 6-7 centuries.

Dr, India and African countries are totally different in science and philosophy not only just because of IITs, rail roads or infra, but also because of the Hindu way of life that has shaped their thinking. They wish to live in content, of course it’s changing due to the influence of the foreign and Indian media with foreign agenda. India was a very developed country and unlike many other third world country, India’s wealth majorly concentrated around Hindu temples were plundered for centuries together by all the invaders including the English, annihilated its skill propagation, ridiculed its non materialistic, eco friendly way of agriculture and life in total. And using Nationalistic term in the western sense is not correct as Hinduism which believes in universal freedom for practice of religions and allowed all the religions under the sky to be practiced in India, peacefully and the Hinduism has called the entire world one family. Now that the foreign religions started creating serious harm to India, in all the ways, Hindus are just uniting and that too only to safeguard themselves, and not offend and form a govt which will protect the national identity of Hinduism and peaceful co existence. India is unlike America or Australia, where the invaders oppressed the aboriginal identity and claim to be democratic countries, where even now the natives are suffering in one form or the other, and the economies or social setup of those countries cannot be even compared as it is like robbers going into a house and start comparing them with other houses.
Prof is right that India should also focus on enhancing productivity in Agricultural Sector & Exports to really catapult its per capita income to at least 10k dollar
Great idea to get authentic voices to be heard in the west. A lot of well established NRIs or Americans of Indian origin have become vocal om SM some have their own You tube channels. The EAM must take notice & have embassies reach out to them.
Great conversations with a right perspective. Every comment is data based and very comforting to know that people at large don't buy tool kit driven agenda.

Yup my LGBTQ frnds supports BJP. Literally all of them. Even many atheists.
Indian Raitha Right Vs Indian Pure Traditionalists Right is what you see in India... (One is Right, whereas the other is Far Right)
For example, people like :
Arnab Goswami of Republic Channel V/s Pramod Muthalik chief of the Rashtriya Hindu Sena, the parent organisation of the Sri Ram Sene.
Raithas like Goswamy supports the LGBTQ rights in India whereas, Traditionalists like Muthalik disowns and sharply objects to the rights of the LGBTQ community in India.
Apt description.👏
Prof Babones in sociology is like a less raging version of Prof Anand Ranganathan, spits stats and then makes comments but with a smile and chuckle. Really like listening to him, quite levelheaded and consistent. His comparison of India with Sub-Saharan Africa was eye opening to me, we are socially advanced but productively not so much. Quite cool. Please bring him again on the podcast.
Yes
Yupp
Bullet train, beautiful varanasi, terrorism free, digital India,

A very honest view of a foreigner about India. Our leaders and countrymen must appreciate and work to improve this country.

Why is "minority" invariably parsed as muslim, when there are so many minorities in India that coexist peacefully? Is it a colonial hangover?
They are not really minorities as per UN standards, its just vote bank politics now
We should change the prismatic perception of what majority is. If you look at it, Muslims are "second" in majority.
Jains, Parsis are the minority, Buddhist are too. Muslims are second majority. Lest accept that
Yes..its a colonial hangover plus it forms a huge chunk of votes.

Ok Gobar bhakt, everything is a conspiracy against India
How is it that the western media constantly finds only persons with a particular ideological leanings within India?
Are we to truly belive that such huge media corporates don't have knowledgeable people who actually bother to go and learn about a nation's politics as hugely impactful as India?
Simply brilliant show. So professionally done.
Great interview .👌
I’m relieved to hear a balanced commentator on India. This reveals the prejudices and the role of biased international media. 1:09:43
