I saw Gladys in concert tonight in Brisbane Australia. Just thought I’d let yous know. And yeah she sang this classic. 79 years old and she still sounds great.
She is the original in 1967. The miracles in 1966 But, they never released it. 1968 Marvin Gaye. 1969 The Temptations. 1970 Credence Clearwater Revival
Repent jesus loves u he comin back soon the whole world is a stage full of lies. Turn away from sin look at all the signs 2020 was just the tip of the tip of the iceburg for those with eyes to see and ears to hear turn back to your 1st love turn back to your creator. John 14:6 Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life no one comes to the Father but by me. Bless! :)
The variations of this song always felt like a great representation of how something can be reformed, refined and renewed to suit different occasions. This version for example was probably great for a party in the 60's. Marvin's, on the other hand, is moody but groovy along with being very soulful. Both are great for dancing, just one more for slower dancing than the other. Then you have the CCR version is like a Southern country blues variation and The Miracles version technically being the first and creating the foundation for Marvin's take. The song in general is a great testament to everyone can just pick their flavor of the same thing and still enjoy it. Gotta love music for that.
I never realized The Miracles sang a version of this hit! But, it felt strange to me when I read that The Temptations had their version of "War" before it was reissued to Edwin Starr! I'll definitely look for Smokey's cut! I've enjoyed Roger's (w/Zapp) cut of..."grapevine", also! There TRULY IS a variety of versions to suit different tastes and moods!
Oh, wow! I absolutely love this version of this song! Gladys Knight laid this song out. Her voice, the music, the beat, everything about it makes me want to play it over and over again! Love it! 💜
Sing Gladys, sing! Her version of I Heard It Through The Grapevine screams to the mountaintops the outrage of betrayal and lies. This is a woman demanding her right to the truth. Marvin Gaye's version was more commercially successful, and I do enjoy it, but when I hear Gladys' version, I always have to play it again. It delivers on so many levels, honestly resonating the emotions of betrayal. Every element of the song matches the lyrics. Vocally, there's the defiant, take no nonsense lead and the exuberantly supportive backgrounds in a call-and-shout arrangement -- all suggesting a tight-knit network of emotional support standing in the wings. Musically, the taunting, mocking bass, the unrelenting piano and the crazy-mad saxophone deliver a measure of vengeance, slamming the scoundrel with the contempt he has earned. All that emoting going on to foot-tapping, body-shaking rhythms. Great stuff!
@@deloresvaughan7058 👍Gladys could straight out sing! Aretha Franklin was given that title the Queen of Soul, but I always disputed that. I have always preferred Gladys' vocal tone. I appreciate your appreciation of Gladys' talent. 😘
Marvin Gaye did a bang up job re- recording this song. BUTTT!! Gladys Knight knocked it outta the park. She tore this song up with THOSE BE BOP N HIP PIPS in the background. Frfr!! 🗣♊️👤Rising

Amen brother!! You just made my whole day.. Not enough people know of or speak of him Nearly enough these days or even in the past and it's tragic as hell if you asked me. I began playing the bass when I was a kid because of James Jamerson. I knew even as a child listening to my mom's Motown that his ingredient was the most special of the bunch and that the Motown sound wouldn't be anything like it is if he weren't a part of it. I'm pretty sure that he's my favorite person that ever to have lived.. or at least I value what he gave to us the most.. He really was something else. Take care my brother!
It always feels like a gift when I stumble on another gem of a performance from Jamerson. Rest in bliss you amazing soul. I suspect this song will be getting a lot more playing time in my car over the next few years.
He brought the electric bass into popular music prominence, with his riveting bass lines. Not only that, but he influenced a legion of other fledgling bass players across all genres of music. Every Motown song is iconic in one sense of another because of its unforgettable bass groove. Rest in peace my brother.
So, I was listening to Rhythm Revue with Felix Hernandez on WBGO and this song is playing in the background due to the fundraising going on. I just had to hear it so I could sing, whistle and dance to it! 💃💃💃💃💃

If I had to choose between this version and Marvin Gaye's I would have to say THIS ONE HANDS DOWN! It's something about that backbeat that's jumping. Marvin Gaye's version sounds like he's going to get some payback 🤔.
I disagree completely. Gladys is a legend. But this song sounds like so many other songs of hers. Marvin's displays utter sadness and is multidimensional. This version is not.
@@phylliskumi4355 Marvin's one is utterly depressing and the sound is terribly dark. Gladys Knight ♥️ The Queen of Soul has also more feeling than Stevie Wonder with For Once In My Life.

I WAS IN SCHOOL WHEN THIS CAME OUT , IM IN THE 70S STILL LOVING THIS
Great , love the original R&B. G & the Pips were a class act.
She is so cute in the "Summer of Soul, 2021."
My all time favorite song! Saw Gladys Knight and The Pips in California back when I was a young girl. Now I am almost 70.
Gladys Knight puts the " stank " on this song like no one before or since. Nuff' said. 🎉
Has anybody living or dead even attempted this song since her?

Ladies and gentlemen, the great James Jamerson on Fender Precision Bass!!!!
