I think the song ended when the rocket launched to the space. That is the countdown. I remembered in the 80's how much People loved this song, specially the intro. The riff is repeated all along the song. I love this song!!! A friend of mine was always playing it. He carried his keyboard everywhere and i played the guitar. We intented to be a band and we did, played severals places when we were young and this one was the favorite of the people.
This song is a perfect embodiment of the 80's. Brings back so many great memories of growing up back then. I'm happy to hear you're in such a great mood, so am I after hearing this song again..
More than 6 million copies sold Worldwide. Yeah it was huge in '86. Comparable to "Another one bites the Dust", the best selling Queen Hit Single of all time.
I would like to suggest Rock the Night, by Europe. It's such an energetic song, giving off good vibes. Europe is a rock band from Sweden, and Joey Tempest is the vocalist. Enjoy good music from the 80's
Swedish rock band "Europe" released this song in the mid 1980s (1985?). "The Final Countdown" was a smash hit and was certified triple platinum (meaning it sold three million copies and counting - they often never stop selling completely at this point). A hit song like this used to promote the sales of albums pushing album sales and making a lot of money. It effectively sold the other songs on the album. In the digital age, the sales of single songs cuts into the total sales a bit reducing the income of the artist from record sales. In fact, most artists make money from merchandise sold by the band and not from ticket sales or music sales. Record labels basically take a large portion.
This was one of my favourite Swedish bands behind ABBA of course. Joey Tempest can still rock this out with his band. Again, it was one of the bands which I grew up with. Yes, I did have the album. You should check out "Carrie" another wonderful song from them.
This song is often played at basketball games, and other sporting events with countdown timers, during timeouts toward the end of the game. Heck, I've even heard it echoing through the halls at work at the end of the day...followed immediately by "Closing Time". 😁 May I recommend "Next Time I Fall in Love" by Peter Cetera and Amy Grant
Good react and good channel girl. Europe is one of the greats bands un the '80 and that has transcended in time. Many new generations listen to this music, because it's really great! I hope to see more reactions soon. See you at the next, 🤟🏻🦊🇯🇵🔥🔥🔥
I am 57 and Canadian, but when this came out in 1986....there were no boundaries in music. They were the best. Joey Tempest singing.. Carrie...absolutely made me a fan. The Scorpions were number 2 on my list and AC/DC WILL always be my favourite. No Canadian bands because except for The Guess Who and BTO..no one compares to them.
Don't forget Rush and Triumph was great Canadian bands from the 70's and 80's. Of course i also liked Killer Dwarfs and Annihilator. You have alot of great Canadian bands.
I remeber this song being played at the club at the night of new years eve of 1999. For me it often feels like a few years ago, but as we know it´s 20+ years. Take care! And as said in the movie Demolition man: Be well! :) With best regards
Ah, yes; Y2K...all a bunch of hype...until you were sitting in front of your computer, chatting on AOL's Instant Messenger and the power goes out for an hour...a complete "WTF?" moment. 🤣
There are so many great grups, people are listening since 60 years still now. for example the Bee Gees. They wrote 1000+ songs over 4 decades and are legends!
I never liked how the video just cuts off like that. In the album it ends with him singing "it's the final countdown....we're leaving together ohh..... we'll all miss her so.... it's the final countdown", and he sings that part hitting some high notes, just love it.
Always a great song, that cassette was the first one I ever bought, saving my lunch money. I still play that song on New Year's Eve, I like to listen to it at least once a year and it seems an appropriate time.
Yes, Europe are still playing. Can't wait to see them at their 40 years anniversary tour this year!!! You should definitely react to their song "Rock The Night"!
Love your reaction! You're so sweet. Our music and that from the UK and Western Europe rarely gets to Russia and even Eastern Europe. There is a whole new world of music out there for you to hear and listen too. Enjoy it!!
This song makes you happy. Nuff said. (you asked how many people truly loved the song because everyone in your comments seemed to. Forget what everyone else liked. Did YOU like it. That is a great indication of what other people thought) 😄
the reason why this song is so popular is not only because the song is so good, but with every big sports event in America en Europe this song has been used as a theme at "the final" sports event. The " final " countdown

Surprised u never heard this song... From 1986, 'The final countdown' has been used in sports events and in New Year's day celebrations all over the world... Europe debuted in 1983 from Sweden, formed by singer Joey Tempest (real name Rolf Magnus Joakim Larsson) and John Norum (guitar) and signed after winning a competition in 1982... followed by the 2nd album 'Wings of tomorrow' in 1984... Europe were signed internationally in 1986 as the line-up now featured John Leven (bass), Ian Haughland (drums) and Mic Michaeli (keyboards). 3rd album 'The Final Countdown' in 1986 was a massive hit w/ the title track becoming a global hit single... the album would sell 3x platinum (3 million copies) in the US alone and made Europe rock stars overnight in what became known as the 80's 'hair metal genre'... However, John Norum left and Kee Marcello (guitar) joined the band for the tour. MTV also played the videos for the singles 'Carrie' ... 'Cherokee'... and 'Rock the night'... 🔥🔥🤘🤘 The problem was that Europe found it impossible to produce a "Final countdown Pt. 2" as a follow up. Their 4th album 'Out of this world' in 1988 sold platinum in the US (1 million copies) but failed to score another major hit single... Europe tried again in 1991 w/ 'Prisoners in paradise'... but the 90's scene brought in the likes of Nirvana, R.E.M. and Pearl Jam... and Europe looked and sounded outdated as the album failed commercially... Exhausted by the music business, Europe split up in 1992. Check out 'Go', by Asia - it's not quite on this song's level, but it's from the same era and has a similarly energetic feel. Classic music video, too.
