I just bought one of these in October of 2024. Mine is very nice, and I like it a lot. I have a couple of other portable SW radios that are DSP. I wanted to try one with analog tuning before they are gone. It’s a BIG radio compared to the little CC Skywave size portables that have become so popular. The sync tuning feature works well in the PL-660. It’s an all around excellent receiver.
Since March and the 1st lockdown, my missus has decided that my PL660 makes a lovely kitchen radio :( ..and I can't argue with her. The FM receive is very nice. It's sensitive, doesn't distort even at higher volumes and the speaker has a nice full-bodied sound ...not hifi of course, but great for it's size. When we go on holidays to Europe, it comes with us. I've spent many an evening enjoying the sunset from a hotel balcony on the med, listening to the G's and EI's back home on the PL660. I'd recommend it if you can find a clean second hand example. It’s not a bad radio and when I take it portable it allows me to check out the bands with out setting all the gear up and finding out the band is flat or dead
Calibration test ? Any views ? Hearing that the frequency setting can alter. Which means that it needs re calibrating. Nothing said about this at point of sale though. Lot of Tecsuns need this apparently. Bit peeved really as I am about as technically minded as a sofa.
Should I get a spare antenna for mine? I just received the radio yesterday? Do you think the antenna will last through normal use? How do I prevent the corona ball from falling off?
The stock antenna should last through normal use I’ve had mine a few years and the ball has never fallen off you could use a bit of locktite to help keep the corona ball on
@@2j4ez thanks for the reply. I notice on the Tecsun antennas compared to an Eton and old Sony have more play in between the shaft section. If you check you will see that there is more slop in the spaces between the sections when they are partway extended
It's a great radio right enough. It does need one small mod though to get rid of the annoying "dynamic squelch" which makes weak stations difficult to hear. Who on earth thought that was a good idea? 😂 Thankfully the mod is dead easy.
Lately I've had a lot of problems with tecsun. Got radios that are defective and they don't seem to stand behind the products verry good. It's a pain to deal with customer service

How good is the airband on this rig. I noticed they dropped it on some later models.

with external antenna this radio is garbage
