Don't have that particular Hitachi/Tanaka saw but most Hitachi/Tanaka saws you need to open the throttle then set the choke...this is because the choke holds the throttle partway open...if you don't do this they will not start well and I suspect yours is also like this and this is why it take 5 pulls not 1
