Got my first bonsai in 1996 from my grandmother. It was an Ulmus "Indoor" (Parvifolia). It lasted for 2 weeks. Then I got in contact with a bonsai grower who was a friend of my dad and the rest is history.

I tried a small tree with hinoki but found the foliage is so dense (chamaecyparis nana gracilis - nana meaning dwarf) that it caused issues of die back in the interior. Probably better for larger trees so you can arrange light into the interior. Yours look lovely and open.

Talking of multiple trees in one pot. About a week ago i bought a massive (Chinese?) juniper from my local garden centre about 3ft by 3ft. with lovely soft foliage and not a needle in sight. It was in the sale section £50 down from £130! I asked one of the guys there if I could put £10 down on it to reserve it as I did n't have any money at the moment. He said if I ask the Manager he might go down on the price, he said I cant hurt to ask. I did and I got it for £30. It turned out to be 3 large trees in one

On the juniper your side branch is taller than the apex, going to slow development of the tree

Definitely agree on that - I think I mentioned something in the video about getting the wrong branch as the leader. It is something I will have to look at next year for sure. Thanks :)
