Courtney is a proper songwriter. They have so many great songs. God bless em
I really like this band. Basically every song is solid as fuck, with a few songs being true classics.
Agreed. Great band. Great songs. But I gotta say, at 5:10 He says, "When I was 4..." But he was actually 7. He was talking about two songs that came out in 74 and he was born in 67.
Could not agree more: quality killer tunes, album after album.
he might have meant to say- “in 1974”.
My favourite two albums of all time, come down and urban hymns, still listen today, just so chill , love em.
I prefer A Norther Soul but UH is great. B Sides and Outtakes was amazing too
Urban hymns is a straight classic masterpiece
"I sneeze and hits come out" Loved Dig!
These guys suck
Lol
@@etiennemarshallthach3736 They definitely aren't like all time greats but they ha e some good songs
I love this interview, telling it straight!
Thanks for watching, Charles. Glad you enjoyed the show
Thanks-thanks Courteney Taylor-Taylor.
LoL
Been there several times, and totally agree, it IS the coolest studio in the world!
Forgot or missed this in the comments, is he talking about their studio in Portland? Thank you so much for watching XC
I presume ‘the odditorium’, there own studio.
@@jcsuperstar60 "their" own studio.
Damn, caught out an english tutor, here in the netherlands on a faux pas. Badge for madge.
Thirteen Tales is one of the greatest rock albums every made, period.
You're not lying. Every song a masterpiece.
I grew up when Louie Louie was a hit, long time ago, and it was very controversial. The teenage dance band SOUND and energy, it was so vivid and present to us back then. Reminds me of the first Beatles tour, Ed Sullivan show, again not great sound or musicianship but the vibe, a new vide for that time.
Now neither will be as at all as amazing appearing as then, it is all about context, "you had to be there".
Obviously sound recording has advanced hugely as has musicianship and skills but back then it jumped out of the AM radio!
Came here for Courtney BUT happily surprised to see him interviewed by my old friend Charles!
Never heard of this guy or band, but he seems very humble and poetic, will check them out later.
He's talented, but humble? No.
He’s NOT humble. And poetic? No. See the documentary “Dig”.
@@MothGirl007 He said 80% of music he listens to is his own band hahahaha. I love the Dandys but CTT is so far up his own ass.
@@catherinegearhart2102 He is not humble but he is poetic.
@MothGirl007 he's confident in his abilities and why not he's fucking brilliant
Love your song and video of " If you were the last junkie on earth" Keep making music.
Pretty amazing life w direction and thoughtful
So interesting. And the result is so magical never been " a fan " but after listening now and revisiting the catalog, I am super impressed. This man don't play
Love this guy... probably because our musical influences are pretty much identical. Plus he is really is cool.
He just said all my favorite bands from my last moments of exhilaration at hearing music - in that period ‘98 - ‘02. Strokes, White Stripes, Vines, JET, and the raw guitar music..that harked back to the Velvet Underground for simplicity but visceral and melody and coolness.. It all went by 2005...guess it couldn’t last...Of course I wanna say that I love Delta Blues, Soul and Motown and all those things white boys say to get credibility but the chime and drone of a guitar ringing out its strings , not distorted, not Led Zepp blues overload like Creme etc., but just the simple melodic chiming ...i love it. And the Dandy’s know it well. It ‘ain’t original at all, but it a sweet biscuit from my favorite box.
Cool that out of the bands named, he only mentions four, and two of them are by the Damned!
The Dandys had some great records twenty-plus years ago. And they were definitely the poster children for hipsterism at that time, but unfortunately that doesn’t make them anywhere near as “cool” as they thought (think?) they were.
Still, their story is interesting, and their career arc still fascinates me. They were well-received critically and financially in Europe and Australia despite being barely an afterthought in their home country. They are successful outside of the typical parameters that define the meaning of the word in the American music business and I’d trade my career for theirs in a second.
Big fan of their early music. Then I listened to more recent stuff. Now its a mix between bored, stoned(?), and just plain lazy.
Do you also think of the lp ‘rockmaker’ as sub par? For me it’s a back to form lp after a few lack lustre efforts.
just watch the dig! documentary and skip this. you will never again aspire to know what this man thinks after watching it LOLLL
Or what Anton thinks lol! "I'm a fucking genius!"
13 Tales of Urban Bohemia is very influential to me.
I agree 100% the Circle Jerks' "group sex" album is a true Punk Rock classic ! It's truly a perfect masterpiece that nobody seems to acknowledge in Punk scene, past or present.
Something tells me he's been involved in a circle jerk or two in his lifetime.
Drink to how many times he says cool.
Thirteen tales of Urban Bohemia evolved me as a human. Amazing album.
Always makes me laugh how Courtney always claims credit for loads of ludicrous stuff, like Bohemian Like You being a pivotal song that ended grunge and led the way for the White Stripes! I’m a Dandy’s fan but most people couldn’t name a single Dandy’s song
Bob Mould says the same thing about Nirvana "carrying on his lineage" in his book. 😫
Considering to this day it's regarded as one of the greatest albums for the decade
@@scotscub76 Bob...wasn't really off though. All three members of Nirvana acknowledged Hüsker Dü's influence. I think Krist Novoselic even said that everything they did, the Hüskers did first.
second rate band at best
@@scovell7 hahaha. Right on man.
I'm thankful to the Dandys for one thing...putting me onto Anton Newcombe and The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
EXACTLY! That is their greatest contribution to music.
Don’t overdose on the cool pills bro. Some others might want to take some and be music snobs.
The greatest band of all time.
Yeah thanks for turning us on to bjm Courtney.
BJM❤
Looks like Vigo the Carpathian from Ghostbusters II
that dude's name was norbert grupe, check out that guys biography, he was a real life miserable villain to the last. talented boxer that went pimp
I'm a huge Dandy's fan but to hear Courtney say that he has no real respect for Portland bands is kinda tough to hear. No love for the Shins? The Decemberists? Elliot Smith for god sake??? Sounds a bit out of touch or ego centric.
Who are they?
Based on the albums he did mention, I think his influences are just much earlier than those examples you mentioned.
Poison Idea!!
Dude is a BIT self-oriented…😑 sad.
The Shins were great.
I guess we should not be surprised to see that Courtney will not mention his " old friend " Anton in his selsection !
I kno clearly his favorite band.......atleast at beginning ing
I'm kinda thinking your spark burned out a while ago.
I'm Soo happy you're music 🎶 is in my world 🤩🌍. Seriously original. Old lady who knows talent immediately. Super band 🙌
Where can I see the whole interview?
Did he just mention Jet!? 🥱
One of the smart celebrities that realises the money eventually dries up.
what song is playing in the background at 9:45?
The closer song is “well there gone” from this machine, but there may have been a tune previous- I think it was live, someone recording, but maybe a Link Wray tune…?
... has he recorded Blackbird yet?
Yeah.
@@saintjabroni cheers buddy, had a listen, not a bad take :)
Wait! Hold up. I just rewatched the 1st half of the interview, cuz I missed a part. DID HE JUST SAY 80% OF THE MUSIC HE LISTENS TO IS HIS OWN BAND!!??? what a doucher! 🤣🤣🤣😅
He was being sarcastic!
good on him. i would too
Jesus, he was being sarcastic, because the idiot presenter asked him if he listened to his own albums.
Courtney, I remember you back in The Beauty Stab days.
I love dandies but unless you are Mark E Smith don't carry on like you are the shit
nail on the head
Fancy thinking your own band is great🙄
Im s frip ping gangie pleek!...from bringshting sector 5 klee klee.😂
wow wah wee wah
10,000 hrs to be an icon
Ctt is proof that looks can get you anywhere .if you meet the right ppl at the right time
I'm a handsome fella, I haven't gotten my deal yet 😀Just joking, thanks for watching
He's as crazy now as Anton was 20 years ago.
To quote the great late Hunter Thompson, "If you are going to be crazy, get paid for it, otherwise they will throw you in the nut house," :) thanks for watching
@@Northerntransmissions Haha I love it thank you for posting such an awesome clip
@@burnlastsunday thank you again for watching, your support is really appreciated. please let us know if you have any guest ideas
Real deal indie musician.
Just gone off him…. I think he took the class of Arrogance 101.
He comes across as a bit full of him self, but was quite nice to us
Digging the aquascutum
Great!
THE man.
Ask any service industry person who’s lived in portland for any length of time and you will consistently hear that Courtney Taylor is not only the world’s worst tipper, he often tries to leave without paying altogether.
Wow, this would be pretty sad if confirmed.
That Sex Pistols classic - Never Mind The Bullockses
XD
Lol
..new found respect for this guy... just oozes style and rock n roll.. Rock ON!
Every time I hear this guy talk says the word "cool" approx 394587 times.
He's going for the 70 year old lesbian "look"
Priceless
I think he looks in the mirror and still sees 1999 him.
Fucksake ppl who think it’s clever to be nasty
Is it transitioning
I love 70 y/o lesbians!!
LOVE FOR COURTNEY
He can’t say bollox properly! Sounds like an American saying it! Made me laugh!!!
Dandy Warhols.....Cool!
This dude is so Art Aleksakes or however you spell his name. The nickel back of Portland bands. Elliott Smith had more talent in his pinky then most musicians....
Haha. I can't stand people with his personality. He's such an alt-bro.
You Rock
God, plz help Courtney out with his hair. He somehow in all his time as a rockstar, never seemed to have found a style that works for him. Good grief.
Courtney doesnt like The Wipers or Poison Idea Ho hum!!!
If Courtney had been able to get the notes of Killer Queen down when he first heard it - then shoved it to the world, he could have cleaned up, 'cos Queen didn't release it until 1974 - clearly having sucked it out his mind a few years earlier through some reverse freaky radio experiment...
Thank you for the insight , appreciate you checking out RIML. XC
Gotta say, I'm in complete agreement with Courtney, Circle Jerks "Group Sex" is one of the great punk albums. 'Back Against the Wall' is one of my favorites! I'm really glad I clicked this interview. I new nothing about Courtney, I just really liked the song "Bohemian Like You."
Very modest man
Who the hell is still listening to The Dandy Warhols??
CIRCLE JERKS!
What made me happy about them was I was getting older, age wise and they helped me to keep feeling young! Met up with a younger girlfriend for lunch once and she asked what I was playing on the CD in my car (as I was shutting my car off). I said The Dandy Warhols (sp?, I'm drinking). She had no clue and we needed to talk. Lol. Yes, love White Stripes too!
He truly is the last (COOL) junkie on earth.
Heatmiser/Elliott Smith. Pete Krebs, Modest Mouse, come on bro. theres a few good bands from around these parts. Floater. see you next month at the Crystal
he´s a kool guy hé
Killer Queen!? Last time you said it was Radar Love. I don't care. I still like your music.
❤❤❤
If you want to know what the words pretentious or hipster mean, look no further.
Hard to take this guy seriously
Poison Idea is the greatest Portland band. This guy has no fucking clue.
Not a Beatles fan aye
The Wipers? Elliott Smith? Quasi? Sleater Kinney? All of those Portland bands had such better music than this cheeseball. Good god.
Naw. Lived in Portland that whole time.
Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks?
a strange effect in that room and on the mic. Don't do that.
If this clown was chocolate he would eat himself.
Anton Newcombe is way cooler/talented than this fellow.
And? He's clearly talented in his own right, and put out some fantastic music. Why does it always come back to this trope? It's tedious and tiresome.
Anton himself has no time for this kinda soap opera bullshit, time to mature a bit and move along.
Don't know Anton's wife had to stand for him in TH-cam comment section! Lame 😂
@@gustavoleguizamon6270 Sure
COOL!
Courtney is a more convincing woman than lia thomas
What a squeezer
♥
Cool?
That guy is delusional.
We all know your favorite album is BJM methadrone and BJM satanic majesties second request hee hee hee
He's soooo old!!!
Very modest man
Ha!
