No one seems to mention the Captain Beefheart influence. Not so clear on this version of this tune, which is closer to standard indie-rock, but Gallowsbird's Bard is full of poppier, sexier Beefheart-isms. By the way, I like this band a lot, because they get more interesting with repeated listenings
production sucks and instrumentation sucks. it sounds a rich kid sesame street, even worse when adults made it. It's almost good just terrible production and musical decisions
@@henrikeickhoff9009 Yeah, but, you know, let´s cool down: this song is already in the trash can of music history. I agree with you, because I feel they could have done it much better than they did.
@darbeel1 Point being that my music taste and other interest and influenced on who im with and what they do, same goes for pretty much everyone. So very good for pointing that out
I thought it was funny. I mean, what are the chances that some English WW veteran Radiohead writes a song about has almost the exact same name as some random American experimental composer? Matt is a mad genius.
@darbeel1 oh lol and as for the studies in music thing, i agree. My parents usually have the radio on and they play almost everything from the way back-now they have a hugh cd collection with lots of variety and I myself am a big fan of almost everything and some of my fav bands being Iron maiden, metallica, van halen, and so on and it just so happens I have friends who listen to the same kind of music. Point being
Malaquias just because it has a melody and a pop song structure doesn't mean it's generic. There's nothing else in pop/rock that sounds like the Fiery Furnaces, their arrangements and instrumentation are really unique. The verse progression is kind of dissonant I guess but it sounds bouncy and fun so who cares
is this a remix or my brain got remixed since the last time I heard it? I think I still have this cd somewhere..but not over the rainbow. MOre in berween shelves
I liked this song back in , what, was it 2005? I liked her too. Proper Spanish looking bird. Pudding bowl hair cut and everything. I now live in Spain.
This song kinda reminds me of the Rentals - friends of P. But this song is ridiculously overbaked and made to be a pop addictive song. I know how music works. I prefer evergreen but this is still a fun song
O dear, what if someone actually has fun reading QC without being aware of all the indie bands Jeph references to. Don't let them read it, those damn infadels! It's ours, ours I tell you!
radiohead is the best band in the world this band is good too radiohead didnt peak with computer like most of you think kid a, amnesiac, and rainbows are their best albums. when they come out with a new album soon it will be the best one of the year.
most artists dont throw paint on canvases they make it have a similar look or if they do they do it in an interesting way also everything has art in it if you cant get that then i am truely sorry for you
@vonpiro why, then, must you even bother to watch this video? Radiohead happens to be one of my favorite bands, and fiery furnaces are new to me. You are entitled to your own opinion, but it annoys me that every single video I watch there is always someone ranting on about how much they hate it. If you hate it, don't watch it. If you don't know what it is, then end up not liking it, don't bother to leave a comment.
What exactly IS a Tropical Ice Land anyway? Like an iceberg that floated to the equator or something. Makes no sense and now I'm all uptight and cant leave my room for days.
Oh man, this takes me back. All the endless days I spent watching MTV: brand new...
Beautiful song, band, everything!!! I love you guys!!!
I love how serious they look.

Love, love , love this song.
It's good, isn't it ?
I get the feeling they were listening to Ocean Man by Ween when they wrote this. Just a feeling. But I get it everytime I hear it.
Aye... im a big ween fan and kept thinking the same. Love both artists

WIDOW CITY is a great album.
This is like 90's retro.
radiohead is like my favorite band and i would never compare these bands. it doesnt even make sense you just respect both
she's so cute and lovely. great song.

Iceland is 🔥
this music video is so incredibly 2007
Great example of indie pop! In another dimension this would have been a hit...
Wincest.

@@GustavoSusFring That's why I'm here. This damn song is permanently stuck in my head now.

@SilverAnxo Very good reply, dude!

I'll never have a clue how she remembers all these lyrics.
@revolutiongamestar Quite definitely, I'm not exactly an expert on indie bands
❤
Luv this. Is that feedback loop noise im hearing?
U rock
Why are all the comments so weird in here?
Lol. 4 years later and it's still the same in here.
@chocotricks Correct me if I'm wrong but that looks not a little like Phil Selway turning the page at 1:00.

is this a remix or my brain got remixed since the last time I heard it? I think I still have this cd somewhere..but not over the rainbow. MOre in berween shelves
Giorgio c yeah, different mix than the one I know
As far as I know there were two versions recorded. One on Gallowsbird's Bark, and one on EP with a more electronic arrangement.
You'd have to be some twisted loser to hate on this; this is positively endearing! So unselfconscious.
Don't diss the Furnaces. They are great.
pitchfork gave this album a 8.9 tho
Pitchfork is a reliable non biased music review site.
The album version of this song is different and it's good.
Maybe not good, but obviously different. Good is a matter of opinion.
I liked this song back in , what, was it 2005? I liked her too. Proper Spanish looking bird. Pudding bowl hair cut and everything. I now live in Spain.
And I bet you are a proper looking pudding.
lol she;s a american country bird, but for a minute she was the hipster prom queen.
Marvellous stuff - should be about two and an 'alf minutes long tho - all sublime pop should be!
Seriously?
Why the fixation on such short songs?
Coool
this is great shit. :)
Responding to this 12 year old comment don’t mind me
This song kinda reminds me of the Rentals - friends of P. But this song is ridiculously overbaked and made to be a pop addictive song. I know how music works. I prefer evergreen but this is still a fun song
“Extremely attractive people make perfect music”
oh they're still together? where is she from?
Yep sure why not.

They need to récord somewhere tropical
Hay otra version que esta mejor!
Saludos desde Argentina!
i have a crush on eleanor
Who is Jedus?
I love Radiohead.
But, I think Fiery Furnaces is more crazy band...
love them both.
Her singing style reminds me of Kate Miller-Heidke.

What exactly IS a Tropical Ice Land anyway? Like an iceberg that floated to the equator or something. Makes no sense and now I'm all uptight and cant leave my room for days.
Tropical Iceland, as in the country, not "Ice Land". Also, global warming.
Yes, the Gallowsbird's version is far better!
Checked em out because of their spat at radiohead. I could see how they could be very jealous with songs like this.
