I had wondered what all the grommets were for on the bustle pads that I had been looking at. Glad to know they actually served a purpose and weren't just a random design feature. I loved your reaction at the end about how CoCo was not kind to your bustle pad. That's my reaction when I come home and unpack after going to ren faire. After a weekend camping and the (typically) scorching heat, no amount of deodorant can totally deal with all the body sweat.
I found you through a lot of youtubing while working on a sewing project. I'd already knew Sarah from Ensembles of the Past. She posted a video of Bernadette's. I then fell down the rabbit hole! Lol, I did not know that videos like this existed! I binged watched hers and saw your star gown in her video and just loved it! I had to see more! Whats funny is I grew up close to Canada in Montana and Minnesota. At one point being only 50 miles from the border. I love your videos! Its almost like having a sewing buddy again! I really miss that!

I've got some tailoring background from way back when, but never really learned much about the periods I'm intrested in before now. Although I'm learning lots from all of you, I've got to admit feeling most greateful for having found you and Juul Thijssen so far, due to my curves. Every one of you ladies are making the most beautiful things... I am not a historical costumer; however, I love garment making (I make my own clothes) and history, and have been known to sew myself historically-inspired pieces. I watch historical costumers/garment makers on TH-cam because all of you are marvelous seamstresses (I haven't watched your male counterparts yet), and your final pieces are beautiful! Maybe, after watching all of you, I will be inspired to do it too.

I thought the same thing. I'm 35 26 40 and 2 inches in a corset is easy, but I would still ad padding for a smooth line. Like when you wear a bra with a tiny bit of foam
Until you actually see the various layers of clothing being made, you have no idea how much work went into creating the various historical costumes. I used to think that living in one of the bygone ages would have been wonderful, 'till I saw how much work was required to get dressed, and cook a meal, or travel even short distances, then I am happy to be me. I just made a heavily pleated skirt and need a pad to pad my behind that’s not one of the 18th century patterns I have that are super duper poofy. Last night I tried it on with it and my husband was laughing because I started being silly and twerking while wandering around the house and it was a whole thing. While I’m not new here I did find this video from Bernadette’s video because I had no idea this one existed. Thank you this now goes on the list to complete before fall hits so I can wear my skirt without being weighed down.
Vent holes! Noted. I find it amusing - and honestly, oddly validating, that the parts of me that I try to minimize now were such a celebrated thing during La Belle Epoque. I have yet to actually create a Victorian garment, but dressing in my Victorian-inspired clothing, and even just slightly mimicking the silhouette, brings about an air of confidence that I simply don't have while wearing modern clothing. Wow!!! While my bust and waist are relatively in line with the chart, my hips are a full 16 inches SMALLER than the chart!!! No, I don't have any "junk in my trunk", nor do I think I want any. My hips are the smallest thing on me!!!

Loving the bookshelves. So many of my favourites on there. The bustle pad turned out well and filled out the gala gown beautifully. My sewing room needs a clean up too and I haven't the excuse of getting ready for somewhere as cool as CoCo as a reason for it's current state of disaster. Thanks for sharing your project.
I am definitely going to make a bustle pad! Although I don't need the hip pads... my hips are so wide the Edwardian fashionistas would think I overstuffed my hip pads as it is! lol

That's a nice thing to know that you already tested it and it's a good thing to add when constructing it. I loved your coco night gown and I'm also loving to see all the steps to make all the undergarments to make it look that perfect! Thanks for sharing!

Hello! I was wondering, what is the very first thing you ever sewed? I am just learning to sew and am falling so deeply in love with seeing my small projects come together from individual pieces to an actual, usable thing. The first thing I learned to sew was a bowl cozy. I am slowly working my way toward historical pieces. I am starting on a pair of Rosie the Riveter work overalls (I'm not even sure that is what they're called ha!). I am excited to see your next projects!!
bernadette mentioned that since you all know one another and mention one another, the 'costube' community gets a lot of sidebar recommendations. its pretty much how i browse content these days, somehow the algorithms do a better job than trying to subscribe to every content creator in any one community. if i subscribe its merely a formality

Something else you can do for tufting is use 4 threads on the same needle then knot it. It makes it just a little quicker
