  • You may be thinking Civil War hoop skirt style cage but if you understand the basic construction techniques you can make far more than just a Civil War cage. Think Marie Antoinette panniers or creative modern shapes. Watch this video, then explore the process yourself. All materials used in this video are available at FarthingalesCorsetMakingSupplies

    Unluckily, one scarcely finds the materials or information about this kind of craftsmanship in my country. It’s a sunshine to be able to watch you work so patiently.
    You really inspired me and no doubt I’ll be working on a crinoline soon.
    Thank you so much for sharing such a wonder

    I wanted to turn a cheap hoop crinoline into a smaller bustle because I just bought a nicer full length crinoline, but I couldn’t wrap my head around how to get the shape I wanted. This was very useful to see to estimate how I might need to alter it, I’m very great-full!

    Thank you so much im now no way as scared to make my own hoops. I was just wondering if you could do a video how to make one of these with the fabric in between the hoops like the long one you briefly showed on this video.

      To make one with fabric you have to sew twill tape onto the fabric to create casings for the steel - the ties are used for fabric cages in the same way they were used here. Check out the cage pattern at www.farthingalescorsetmakingsupplies.com

      I'm not sure what your are asking. The video shows how to connect the hoop and how to use tapes to alter the shape. Do you mean panniers? Panniers do not attach together they attach to a waist band.

    what would you sugest to do if you need to make one of these but have no hooping in the front. because the skirt has a clear panel in the from that you can see the legs through. very clearly has no hoops in the front

    Could a cage crinoline pattern be adapted to make a bustle or farthingale?

    • @farthingalescorsetmakingsu2655
      @farthingalescorsetmakingsu2655  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A bustle is a totally different shape - no matter what type of bustle, so no a cage pattern could not be adapted. I wouldn't use it to make a Farthingale either, it would be easier to find a pattern for a Farthingale. The Mantua Maker website has Farthingales patterns.

    Thank you so much for this video. Just wandering - can you make a completely open hoop skirt - so that it will show fx a pair of pants underneath or do you always need a closed hoop for it to stay round?

    • @farthingalescorsetmakingsu2655
      @farthingalescorsetmakingsu2655  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The hoop steel I use is "spring steel" so it's very flexible and does not stay in a circular shape unless it is held with the connectors - unlike a hulahoop which is solid and would stay circular...so, "no" . Keep in mind that if you were to use a hulahoop you would not have the flexibility that would allow you to sit down.

    I bought your kit a few years ago. This must be a new video. My kit said that you didn't have the right material for the waist band, so I sent something diffent. My poor cage crinoline was a hot mess.
    Even with sewing the steel in place did not help.

      It helps to get into and out of the crinoline and...it's the way it was always done - depending on your size you may be able to make closed hoops all the way up.

    • @farthingalescorsetmakingsu2655

      Makes getting in and out easier and allows the front to lay flatter - so you don't have a big belly look

      I hace also found in research it was for when they sit down in chairs and sofas that open hoop in top will ease up and it can lay better and also dont have any accidents where the hoops near the waist push up or skirt and show you undergarments
