    I love how when he takes this extremely rare guitar out of the case and basically juggles it in his hand like it was a plank of plywood.

    He doesn't explain it right but this guitar has the "vintage wiring" where the 3-way switch chooses the bridge pickup (back position), the neck pickup (middle position), or the neck pickup through a large capacitor (front position). "Modern wiring" is how Teles are wired today: neck, bridge or both together.

      Non-trussrod necks were only on the earliest-of-the-earliest guitars, and there were very, very few before Don Randall of Fender Sales insisted that Leo put in trussrods. This Broadcaster DOES have a trussrod as evidenced by the skunk-stripe down the back of the neck which can be easily seen when Mark is showing the back of the guitar.

    • @nickroyalprince2163
      @nickroyalprince2163 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      blo p the Neck and bridge are both single coil pickups. But unlike later telecasters the wiring is different. In the back position is the bridge pickup. However, Broadcasters and Nocasters don’t have a tone control, the tone knob is actually a blend control. The tone knob at 0 is bridge only, and the knob at 10 blends both pickups. In the middle is neck pickup alone. In the front position is the neck pickup with a capacitor, providing a bassy tone, which many people consider useless but is good for jazz and blues. The volume knob works normally like a standard Telecaster.

  • @michaeljones8058
    @michaeljones8058 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    2:59 "You don't get a lot out of that neck pickup" LOL!!! If you knew how to actually play guitar you'd get a lot out of that neck pickup. Get back on the neck pickup, roll off the tone just a tad, and play a vi-ii-V-I in Ebmaj. The result will be velvet and butter!

    • @anthonyc1883
      @anthonyc1883 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dreadflower True about the non-sequential part, although the Gilmour 0001 Strat is not black. It's Desert Sand-ish or possibly a faded one-off custom color with an anodized gold pickguard. Regarding Broadcaster 0022, however, although it almost certainly is not the the 22nd one made, Broadcasters are in such rarified air in general because so few were produced, plus they were (are) such historic instruments, too. Add a super-low serial number to all that and the whole package is just beyond cool.

    These guitars are revered and coveted merely for their historical/antique value. If someone is saying that they have some kind of voodoo superior sound, then they are hitting the pipe a little too hard. My 2012 American Special leaves this tonal turd in the dust when it comes to sonic prowess. But that's not to say that it's not still a super badass and groovy guitar, which is also an irriplaceable piece of human history.

    • @krelbar
      @krelbar 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maafa 1619 THe resonance of the wood has nothing to do with an amplified guitar. Also, the 60 year old pickup sounds like it does because the magnets have lost their strength. This can be duplicated by just using weak magnets in a modern wound pickup.

    • @krelbar
      @krelbar 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Maafa 1619 It picks up on the taps because the pickups act as a microphone. To say that this would pick on the subtleties of the resonance of the wood is a different matter entirely.

    Great sounding guitar! One thing no one ever seems to mention is that just like the old strats, on the teles w old school wiring if you just work the toggle between the bridge and middle position you can still get the 2 pickup combo tone. Everyone always gives u bridge, neck, and then complains about the lo pass filtered setting, but the dual pickup tone is still in there.

    What are the songs at 2:00 and 3:13? I like beat up old guitars but this one's clean and very valuable so maybe it should stay like that

      Paco Aguilar Okay, never heard any details about them other than they are the same guitar, so I'm gonna go with that. ✨😆👍✨🇺🇸
