    I was thinking of demoing Vocalign and had not realized that Studio One does what Vocalign does already (put bendmarkers based on another track), for free, and already integrated in the DAW. Wow!

    Thanks for addressing the power of the audio bend tool Gregor. I work with an artist who overdubs his vocals in his tracks and he often either comes in too early or too late on the second take, so I find the audio bend tool to be my go to for aligning the imperfections. It's pretty cool.

    AMAZING! Thank you, Gregor, for showing us AGAIN the magic of macros. I was nodding my head along when you were describing the dark side of bend marking for the perfect performance. At 7:33 a single tear rolled down my cheek-I recall literally staring into my screen with all the markers then looking at how long it had taken me to arrange all those markers and instead of feeling happy about my progress I was totally stressing about this new problem that I now had. KNOWING that I had the tools to get the perfect performance but regretting the time spent getting there. I recall feeling totally gutted and saying those exact words to myself aloud. Once again, you reached into the dark side of my own music production drama and brought to light an amazingly lovely solution all packaged into a macro. Thank you! By the way, I always enjoy hearing your different tracks!

    I've been producing for a whole lot of years this is my opinion. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should! Modern music can be so over corrected, pitch corrected, quantized etc. that the life gets robbed out of it. This imo contributes to shorter shelf life as the listener is bored more quickly. It's the imperfections that can make things perfect. You have to use judgment, was that too much or not enough. One artist that comes to mind is BT, I don't know about now but he would time correct "everything" to the nano second and to me he hurt things more than helped. Thanks for the video, your English is great and so are your tutorials!

    Really nice! But why are the bend markers being positioned after the start of a transient?
    As you can see at 5:40 the auto-detected markers are not at the beginning of the transient but slightly after.
    For Drums or Bass, this feature makes no sense, and it will always position the snares and kicks slightly before the grid and not on point.
    It would be great to know how to disable this feature.

    • @presonus
      @presonus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you pay close attention to what happens as soon as I quantize, you will notice that the beginning of the bend marker range is what’s being quantized - just like you want it to be. -GBY

    • @AlessandroPacifico
      @AlessandroPacifico 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@presonus Thanks for the reply, but this is not true.
      Why is the bend marker being placed after the start of the soundwave?
      When you take a close look at 5:56, after you press "apply", the bend marker is being positioned on the grid. So far so good.
      The problem is, that there is still sound left before the bend marker that is not on the grid as one would expect.
      If you choose the "splice" option instead of quantize, studio one quantizes the audio as expected from the beginning of the transients.
      No other DAW acts this way.
      This issue has been there for years apparently.

      forums.presonus.com/viewtopic.php?f=151&t=30445
      PS: Wir können uns gerne auf Deutsch unterhalten/telefonieren/mailen, dann kann ich das Problem vorführen.
      Das Problem mit der Quantisierung ist der Grund, warum ich nicht komplett auf Studio One umsteigen kann, obwohl ich es gerne würde.

    Thanks Gregor! Always learn so much from your videos, and never get tired of watching. You're express things so very clearly, and you always come across as so positive.
    Your workflow, and commitment to efficiency got me thinking... Thought I'd toss out some possible S1 enhancements, perhaps someone will think they're worth including. I suppose I should post them, but I don't have time for a concise write-up, right now.
    It would be great if Bend and Range could share a 'top and bottom' arrangement, like the arrow key and the range tool. That would be especially handy when tightening vocals... especially when trying to audition and place bend markers at the end of words, or at the end of groups of words, or in other non-transient-based locations.
    It would be handy to have a single key that would audition or play next transient range', as well.

    • @presonus
      @presonus  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lee, thanks so much for your kind words & that's a really cool idea. You can build a Macro to have a single key that would audition or play the next transient range, though. You'd probably want to combine the hotkeys "Move Range to Hotspot" and "Play Selected Range" to achieve this. -GBY

    I created bend markers for audio to align Horn tracks. I decided to quantize the bridge of the melody instead of manually aligning the tracks. I cut the audio up into individual events and tried to restore the bend markers to their original location within the events. Unfortunately all of the bend markers for the track are restored to their original location, including the A section of the melody which I manually adjusted. I just want to restore the bend markers on the bridge not the entire track. I could not find any infromation on the web to solve this problem. In Logic once you cut up event up you are able to restore the flex marker to thier original position without affecting any of the other pieces of the audio. The same in digital performer. Your help to my problem is greatly appreciated. Have a great day!

When i want to quantize or warping tracks...What ever you want to call it...If i wanted to warp an old track & put it on the grid with the metronome,ableton quantize process is very easy to do which is the only reason why i use ableton, is there any update in the future for this process??? The transient detection is off in studio one

  • @stefanedenholm4095
    @stefanedenholm4095 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Maybe an improvement:
    When you have created the bend markers, you should be able to highlight a bend marker and adjust it in "ticks" with some sort of "left/right"-arrow key. Then use some sort of macro/shortcut to go to the previous/next bend marker and adjust that too. This will speed up the workflow when you want to adjust the timing of the position of the bend markers.
    When you are done you could press shift+command+A to unhighlight the last bend marker you are adjusting.
    A bonus feature would be that when you are highlighting a bend marker you should see that exact position in the transport window and when you unhighlight it you should see the playback position again.

Any tips for cpu other then buffer size .
    Respect and love for these videos

    • @presonus
      @presonus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi SUKOON, thanks so much for your support! Studio One automatically utilises multicore processing wherever possible. You are correct about the single thread architecture of audio channels, but we can harness the power of multithread in many monitoring situations regardless - for example, when playing Multi Instruments live. As for CPU tips, I would recommend you to start with a low block size of 64 or 128 samples and Dropout Protection Minimum. If you're experiencing audible clicks / pops / dropouts, click on the CPU meter in the bottom left of the Transport Bar to increase the Dropout Protection. You can also enable "Z" mode for instrument and/or audio channels to monitor those at your native low block size (say, 64 samples), while handling playback of everything else with a higher latency (say Dropout Protection Medium = 512 samples). This can potentially allow you to monitor instruments with very low latency even in large sessions, without your CPU having to tap out. Please watch my tutorial here if you'd like to learn more: th-cam.com/video/qJI6fXewu_I/w-d-xo.html -GBY

    hey Gregor - (You are my hero.. :-)) once the bend markers have been placed, how do i "burn" them into the track? do I need to "finalize" them in some way?

    • @presonus
      @presonus  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much, Rohan! If you want to commit your Bend Marker edits, you can do so by selecting the event and pressing cmd+b (on Mac), or ctrl+b (on Windows). Hope this helps! :) -GBY

    Thank you Gregor :- ) ... please tell me: If you have a very long track, where you only want to edit some parts at the the beginning the track, and at the same time want to preserve the timing at the end of the track, would you then first slice the audio track, before you start editing? ( in order to avoid that the last moved bender marker doesn't mess with the timing of last portion of the audio track ?

      Hi Kim, just slicing the event wouldn't be enough, you would also have to set a bend marker at the point where you wouldn't want any time stretching to occur anymore. The time stretching is applied to the clip ( = the whole audio file), so it does not stop at event boundaries. The easiest way to make sure that you really only edit some part at the beginning would be to slice it, and then hit cmd+b (Mac) ctrl+b (Windows) for "Bounce Selection". Now you have a completely separate copy that you can edit without affecting anything else. :) -GBY

    Thank you Gregor for this pieces of advice. :) It'll save my time and make my work as a vocalist much easier.
    The more I discover about S1, the more happy I am to have chosen this DAW.
    Also, I like the Rammstein vibe of those vocals ;) Can I hear this song somewhere?

    When I do it, the Bend markers are not get set to the next transient, it´s like they are on grid to a 1/8 Note. Did I overlooked something?

    • @Tx66
      @Tx66 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Then your song grid is probably set to 1/8. Set it to 1/16.

      Hi Kev, try the “Sound” algorithm. That should work very well. -GBY

      I was a bit worried that people might have a harder time judging vocal timings if it's in a different language. Fortunately that seems not to be the case. Thanks so much for your kind words! -GBY

    random question. Is there a way to permanently set the sample size to 48, instead of 44.1? So my system doesn’t sit here fighting with itself, clicking, while they fight trying to influence the other to switch over to 48 or 44.1? Its a lot of unnecessary Drama to go thru on a start page, just to switch back to 48 once I get into a song session\
