I was lucky enough to see them live last week. This was their closing song, and Tim (who has MS and is in a wheelchair) stood up from his wheelchair when his solo came around at the 1:10 mark, stuck his thumbs into his belt and absolutely sung his heart out. It was amazing,
chrissylikesstuff All except for Richard, I think he had commitments on his radio program. The spot of guitarist was filled by Flacco so it was still an incredible show.
Andrew Graham I've been a massive fan of DAAS for years. I'm very jealous! I love Tim, Paul and the other one. im just discovering loads of their stuff ive not seen. The first thing I heard was Dead Or Alive when I 16! Best thing I'd heard. But yeah. I I love this track!
In my humble opinion this is probably the best and most substantive song these boys have ever done - and possibly one of the few - if not the only one that I can show and recommend to my family .The only other one being their version of Sunday morning
With a downwind blast from his dowry arse Like a lance of fire he shot up the mast As he mumbled blasphemous epitaphs "I am the sailor!" And the captain cried with a mighty heave-ho "Enemy sighted on the starboard bow! Load your cannons, let 'em go, For God is on our side, boys." In the dust and sand Of a foreign land With hands afire He buried his friend He beat his brow And cursing fowl, he said, "I am the soldier." And the private laughed as he reached the bluff His gun barrel smoking and enough's enough "We've done more damage than old Mc'Duff And God is on our side, boys." He flew through the flak On the first attack The bomb bay open On a missile's back "Here's the payload," He crudely spat, "I am the airman." And the general sighed, "This is our last stand, Let every man say 'Amen'. For we'll not see daylight again And God is on our side, boys." Well, the airman plunged into the pine And the sailor drowned in the briny brine And the soldier in haste put his foot on a mine And it comes to all in time, boys For on the day they died, boys God was on the other side, boys
Thank god, someone else that's heard of Blue. I have a copy of it on tape somewhere, it's not a good copy, but it's a copy nontheless. Some fantastic tracks on it. I'm just pissed it never got released!! This song is fantastic, but hey, did these boys ever go wrong?!?
"With a Downward blast from his doughy arse" with 100% accuracy is the line. This song is also on the unreleased album blue, and lyrics printed in the DAAS songbook.
there are so many great songs from the 2 series of Kapital, when are the ABC going to release them on DVD??? The DAAS clips from the Big Gig were a good start, but still lots of work to do people! Back to my old, slightly worn, VCR tapes I guess.
I've noticed the hand gesture Paul does in a few of the serious songs and have wondered about it. Is it the anarchy symbol he was doing? Johnny Depp used to do it sometimes in promotional shots back in his jump street days and it made me wonder then as well (me old? nay!)
I've found it to be strumming A, D and G The opening chords which I've always been interested in, are just A (mind this is with the two semitone lower tuning as mentioned above). Also watch closely especially with the one on the big gig where you can see the chord changes clearest.
Guitarists often choose to tune 12 strings down to reduce tension on the neck, and make it easier to play. Keith Potger of the Seekers is another well known example.
That 12 string messes me up. I play it like this although I know I'm missing a few changes and the chords are probably totally out. With a [G] downwind blast from his doughy ass, Like a [C] lance of fire he shot [Am] up the mast. As he [G] mumbled blasphemous epitaphs, [Em] "I am the sailor." And the [D] captain cried with a [C] mighty heave-ho "Enemy sighted on the starboard bow. [G] Load your cannons, let 'em [D] go. For [C] God is on our [Em] side, boys."
Is the first line Paul sings "with the downwind blast from his doughy ass?!" I can't work it out and the other day I thought that might've been it. Although the rest of the song's serious and sad though...maybe just typical DAAS!
they first preformed this song on "The Big Gig" before the performed this song they had only done comedy numbers the audience was so gob smacked they forgot to clap for a bit
war lies. great song, but the intent dams you guys. war IS a lie anyone selling it is a Conjurer. intentionally so means arse hurt. arse hurt galore here daas to all

I didn't know they still performed!

+Andrew Graham Yeah, they've done it for both shows, with Tim on his feet both times :)
Really stirring stuff.
+Andrew Graham That one moment had me teary for sure. Both times.

Seeing them live at the powerhouse and watching Tim stand up and sing his solo, it was an amazing experience! I love this song :)
I was there for that, brought a tear to my eyes :)
I love how they can do silly and serious just as well.

Im from croatia but this song is very beautifull.
As beautiful now as the first time I heard it. Who knew Canberra could produce talent like the allstars?
i love this song and believe that it should be said more that god is not always on your side
OMFG, thanks for the heads up! I kinda figured this would never happen... but that's not important right now!
I have seen them sing this live....

Love these men, can anyone tell me how I can get this song for my library?

god i love this
wow.....a mohawk, go Paul!
@slakalot22- Ricky has his guitar tuned down two semitones to DGCFAD (dDgGcCfFAADD).
Great pick up! Can just play it in G

@TheFlyslip I don't think he has actually. he just doesn't get ugly when he gets older
That 12 string messes me up. I play it like this although I know I'm missing a few changes and the chords are probably totally out.
With a [G] downwind blast from his doughy ass,
Like a [C] lance of fire he shot [Am] up the mast.

The DVDs are out now as of .. well tomorrow. Only took them three years from your comment! ;)
