Their harmonies are sublime ... still all these years later. They were a gift! Thank you DAAS for singing this Hunters and Collectors song. The world is better for it.
In context it is an incredible thing. When you consider their manic, rude, in your face performances, this is amazing. It is beautiful and their voices so mesmerising . Paul sings like an angel, considering he's such a demon. I have never loved this song so much. Thank you, Doug Anthony All Stars. To those who watch this, please share.
This is the perfect review and description of this cover! I just wanna add that it’s incredible even if it’s out of context… like you could have no idea who DAAS is and it’s still a beautiful cover. But I agree that it makes the song/performance that much more special when taken in context.
Still loving this song in 2020. The harmonies and lead vocal still give me goosebumps.... seeing them now with Tim in a wheelchair is so sad but they still have their irreverent humour x
Paul is most definitely one sexy guy!!! Mum got me into them yearsss ago as she used to watch them when they were on tv back in her day heh! Ever since then I’ve been totally hooked!!! (And a bit in love with Paul Lol) xxxx
Coincidentally, last night, just as I was brilliantly singing my killer standup routine, the thought popped into my head, “the only thing sexier than Paul McDermott would have to be some hot chick who could balance a chakram on one finger’”. But where would you ever find one of those? So I guess, Paul it is!
Paul was one of the most interesting people I have ever had a beer with. Quick witted with an absolutely wicked sense of humour. Dirty as too. The good old DAAS concerts at USQ were awesome.
D.A.A.S. Rock!! I remember seein them as a kid here in Edinburgh when they were unknown here and made their money busking! Paul owes my Mum at least 2 packs of smokes!! Consantly bumming them as they were skint! Genuinely funny and likeable guys on and off stage!
Honestly I’m grateful that I grew up watching these guys... this song though you really feel it deeply. And didn’t we all have a crush on Paul! His voice, his talent and well um.... heheh mmm
Despite the poor audio quality of this recording... This is perhaps the best version of this song...EVER. IMHO better than the Mark Seymour acoustic version.
While I think Paul did this song about 47 thousand times in his career so far, I still think it's an awesome song for his voice. I never get tired of it.
I have always understood the song that way, to the point where it was my wedding song. A lot of the guests wondered where we were heading with that so I spent a great deal of the night explaining what it means to me. When Mark Seymour did that interview I finally felt validated.
@@kaizenweisz2120 I can't find the whole interview now but this quote shuts up down the story that throw your arms around me was written about a one night stand . Mark Seymour described writing for Human Frailty: I was in a relationship with a woman I was very much in love with and she was the inspiration. I wrote virtually all the lyrics on Human Frailty about my relationship with her...Throw Your Arms Around Me was the first song I wrote that wasn't angry. And because it was so out of the square, we didn't record it particularly well...One time, we played it at The Palace, to about 2,000 people who just went off. We finally got it right, so we recorded it again. I think we did about four versions of it.[6] - Mark Seymour
Well i'd assume they changed the lyrics for copyright reasons. I went to one of thier 'Dead & Alive' aussie shows. You wouldn't believe what i'd give to go back to 1992 and experience it all again. The beer... meeting them in person... they're brilliant!
I watched Dead & Alive for the first time on an old, worn down VHS when I was still in high school. Loved all the crude, un-PC humour that characterised all their stuff (and still do). Then, with no word of warning, they just slipped into this. I was stunned into silence. Utterly superb version. So glad to find it again.
They did a similar thing with a cover of "Heard It Through The Grape Vine" ... there's a lot of typical DAAS silliness beforehand, but then they suddenly straighten up and just SING.
Not a one night stand at all. Mark Seymour described writing for Human Frailty: I was in a relationship with a woman I was very much in love with and she was the inspiration. Got married in 2009 and we used this song for our dance. The DJ said to the guests that he’d never heard the version before and said it was one of the most striking ones he’d played for a bridal waltz
Brilliant version of this song. It never fails to bring me to tears to hear it. I need to go and hear I wanna spill the blood of a hippy lest I be considered not a DAAS fan.. lol
They were so great. We need a group like this now to bring a bit of fun back and remind ourselves to stop taking everything so seriously. Loved their harmony. Paul had a beautiful voice and a wonderful cheeky look
When ever it all just feels too much I just listen to this performance. Inevitably I weep, remember the great passions of my life so far and how lucky I am …and resurface reborn
omg i can't believe this video it's been years since i have seen it!! paul has the voice of an angel and i have a tear in my eye everytime i hear him sing this!! I LOVE DAAS!!!!!!
God these guys were an awesome group. I think I first saw them perform this on the Big Gig but it could have been on Dead & Alive, or even DAAS Kapital. So many great memories but Oh so long ago. Paul McDermott has done the best cover versions of this song I've ever heard. Maybe ever best version...
I just love that DAAS make this beautiful music (and an Aussie classic), but the song is essentially about a 'one-night stand'. Even in their most 'sincere' moments they are still taking-the-piss. Gotta love 'em xx oo
Yes!!! First time I saw them was in Bourke St., then at Prince Pats, which was just down the road from where I was working in Victoria St. I was mesmerized when I saw them in Bourke St. for the first time - those voices! Best version of one of the best songs ever!
I have loved this song since I saw this show - what 15 years ago?? I love it!! And I love TH-cam - or I never would have found it again! I listen to this whenever I can and sing this song to my daughter!!
They are irreverent, politically incorrect, abusive, foul, perverse, mocking and crude. I love these guys. i can't wait to see their new touring show in the Gong.
Every time I hear this song, I think of my wife. I love this song, and it is indeed the best version of it. Very few songs make me feel it in my heart...and this is one of them. I love you Fel.
I do have DAAS live in New York, it is for me a prices piece of Australias great sense of humour. The version of this song on this video is amazing, very intimate and a bloody good cover. The whole video is awesome. Search ebay it is probably available still at ABC shops when you order it.
god this song just breaks my heart, DAAS just get this bang on. Linda, shame this wasnt playing on holiday. Very powerful those 3 little words, never use them lightly
Today is 11 years since my dear Mum passed away. She loved Paul and Tim, and I think the other guy. Whoever he is. (Jk). She also loved this song. This came up in my Mix on random. Miss you Mummah
I remember seeing this on TV. To be honest I thought they were strangely dressed. But to be honest - I have never seen these guys so straight and serious. It is a homage to the song
Seen many a DAAS concert...even lucked out in London where I found them playing a gig there, walked straight in and bought a ticket! Ahh, the good old days when everything and anything was a target of humour, and nobody got oFfEnDeD...
Please do this again, such a beautiful song and you all have such amazing voices would love to show my daughters what is possible if they train their voices
For the algorithm. This work of genius must never be allowed to disappear.
Hunters and Collectors in colab with DAAS may we all find continual Peace

I still think Paul has one of the best voices in Australia.
And maybe the world
Classically trained. You can always tell.
@Obi Wan Kenobi Did he? Because his voice sounds classically trained, it really does. Happy to be told otherwise.

Still loving this song in 2020. The harmonies and lead vocal still give me goosebumps.... seeing them now with Tim in a wheelchair is so sad but they still have their irreverent humour x
look how young they were
The song itself is an anthem for Australian youth of my age, this version is amazing.
@@renmarkable7905 we all were then
Tim is a good mate. He is in a wheelchair but he’s as active as always and a tough bugger. Also hasn’t lost any of his humour or artistic ability.
@discomfortzone aw I'm so happy to hear this. Please wish him well from a huge DAAS fan x
I miss these guys SO much.
His voice remains, for me, the most incredible of all time, no effort and pure beauty
Well, there's also Maynard and Mercury.
But I don't directly disagree.
Maynard? As in A Perfect Circle?@@ChristianSchladetsch
Love it, Paul means business when he sings, he knew the weight the tune carried. Proud to be old tell the kids we were here.
Is there anything sexier than a man who can not only sing beautifully but is funny as heck? Loved these guys :)

Back in the day - when they were in their prime. Young, beautiful and whole. Fantastic performance. Wonderful memories.
+Lachlan Mills waaaaaaaaah *billions of tears*
went to see them live a few weeks back , still so fucking great , oh and paul 😍 hahaha not even gay but for paul 😂
They are still beautiful, and better than 'young'.
Quick reminder while we're all young and happy, bowel cancer, ok? It's a silent killer, so don't watch too much tv, back to the show.
