  • How to replace the alternator on a 2.2L 4 cylinder S10, Sonoma, Blazer, Jimmy, Bravada. This video shows that you don't need to jack up the truck to get to the alternator, you can do it on the ground in the driveway.

Nice work BUT this was done 1000% harder than it needed to be. All you have to do is #1 remove the battery and #2 disconnect the big radiator hose from the engine & radiator. After that it's pretty much a straight shot into the alternator. I did mine about 3 weeks ago, the same way I explained & it took only about 35 minutes start to finish including the fan belt.

    Man, just great F****** work!!!!!!!
I appreciate the step by step approach. And you even showed how to pretty much each step as well. I'll probably never have to pay to have an alternator replaced again. Absolutely priceless brother.. thank you.

Thank you so much for this video! The last owner of my S10 didn't have the alternator brace attached (so the main bracket ears broke). Your video showed me where the rear brace attaches to the engine - near impossible info to find!

GREAT video ! Thanks for helping us lose a few headaches !! Well Done ! If we get this far we should be able to figure out the belt tensioner. Just a 3/8th's ratchet should do the trick !! Thanks again !!

When doing this much work, go the extra mile, check your water pump, if your serpentine belt is more than 3 years old go ahead and replace it. The cost of breaking down with a tow, and the cost of a mechanic of $100.00 an hr, which you'll greatly appreciate the $35.00 for changing the belt...trust me.

I haven’t done it yet but watching you do it then looking at the alternator myself in person I feel like you don’t even have to remove the fan shroud

I just realized mines a 97 so my air hose doesn’t run like that so maybe that’s why you had to take yours out

I did mine with the shroud on. Removed the complete air intake. Disconnected two 10mm bolt that holds fuel line to intake manifold and had easy access to the alternator with a 3/8 ratchet and sockets. No extensions. To remove, I pushed all hoses to the left except the upper radiator hose. I bent it back towards the grille and the alternator pulls straight up. I wouldve had little benefit with removing the shroud.
P.S. if anyone is doing this through the fenderwll or on a jack/lift, you're wasting time.

is there a ground that goes to the back of the alternator? or does 2 wires go onto that battery post on the rear of the alternator?

I know it's probably too late for you but you just put a ratchet on it

Very helpful except he didn’t show which way he went to take out the old alternator once he detached it. In my experience the fender well gap is too small to pass the alternator, and unbolting the fender well isn’t an option unless you’re game to also disconnect and lift out the coolant reservoir.
