No, if you don't put anything in, the calculator assumes the mean and standard deviation are 0 and 1. So, when you are working with the standard normal curve, you don't have to put in the mean and standard deviation.

In most standard normal curves, the mean is 0 and the stand dev is 1 (anytime it uses z and not x), as you can see by the x-axis in the above examples. So if you don't want to mess with changing calculator modes, just enter 0 for mean and 1 for dev when it uses z=anything.
I did this, but it keeps on giving me an error message. Then I turned off the Stat Wizard and it still didn't work with just lower and upper boundaries. My test is tomorrow and I can't even get the calculator going :'(

Thanks :) Actually, InvNorm gives you the z-score if you know the area. Using a z-score to find area you use this same function just do from negative infinity up to the z-score. You don't have to put in mean and s.d. because the function assumes a mean and s.d. of 0 and 1, if you don't put in the second and third variable. I made a video covering that too, if this explanation doesn't make sense.

YES. I am struggling so hard with "use technology" on some of these problems b/c I don't know what to input. When I get the error, I "GOTO" and then delete the extra fields from the parenthesis. It works occasionally to give me the right answer. It gave the correct answer here, for example. But the problem from my text was wrong. I keep getting 0.330 instead of 0.0025.
When I put the values into my ti-84, it comes up with "Error Syntax". I'm trying to find the area to the left of Z, when Z= - 0.02. Any ideas why it's not working?
To find that you would have to put normalcdf(-10000, -0.02). You could also use -1E99 instead of -10000. Make sure you are using the CDF function and not the PDF function and also make sure you always put the numbers in the correct order. Both of those mistakes could result in a syntax error.

Hit Mode on your calculator and scroll down to Stat Wizard. Turn it off. That should help. Stat Wizard is great, but it doesn't work well with some functions.

I did the EXACT thing on my calculator for #2. I got a WAAAAAAY different #. I have looked this over like 100 to make sure. It seems like your programing on your computer calculator is off.

a) finding the two areas and adding them
b) finding the area between them and subtracting it from 1.
In the last problem of finding the area between z=-1.23 and z=1.3 you put the answer is 0.794 but don't you have to subtract? 1-0.794 to get 0.206?
Where do you get the -10000?

My answer is correct and checks out with a normal distribution table. Either you entered something incorrectly or your calculator is off.
