I started going to Colorado with my parents when I was 12 years old in 1965. We had relatives in Englewood who would take us to the mountains to visit ghost towns and towns that were destined to become ghost towns. In the mid-60s there were mines still being worked and the ghost towns mostly still had a lot of buildings standing. I started going up in the mountains alone when I turned 18 with every book I could find on the mining camps and ghost towns but somehow I never visited St. Elmo though I was familiar with it from the books. Over the years I returned I watched the buildings in the towns slowly start to lean and finally fall to the ground, a depressing sight. I abused a 2 wheel drive Ford Ranger pickup taking it on roads marked 'Four-wheel drive only' and never once got stuck. When I finally bought a four-wheel-drive I became a real hazard and there was nowhere I couldn't go, or at least try. Some of the books I have were written in the late '40s to mid-'50s and while the maps of how to reach a certain town were accurate their description of the towns was not at all what they were in reality. When those books were authored many, many towns had only been abandoned since just before the war so they were very much intact. The U.S. government made the precious metals mines close in 1941 since they said they didn't benefit the war effort. This caused mines that were not paying that well to close permanently instantly creating those ghost towns. One of the best books I have is Colorado Ghost Towns by Brown, 1971. It lead me to more ghost towns than I can remember. It's where I read about St. Elmo but again, I don't know why I never visited there and after seeing your video I really regret it. I don't know if I'll get back up there but your video has caused me to put it on my bucket list. Thank you for sharing that.

Yeah not lol st elmo is just a tourist spot here in Colorado just gonna walk around with people in shorts and sandals buying from gift shops. Lol not much of a ghost town tbh
Been to St. Elmo a few times. Great video. Brought back lots of memories for me and the wife. I believe there was a fire a few years back that destroyed one of those buildings. Great trail up to tincup pass also. We rode ATV's, ( some of the best ATV riding I've ever been on) but lots of mountain bikers, and horseback riders. Plenty to see in the area around Mt. Princeton. Abandon mines and tunnel. One of the locals told us most trails lead to other small towns in the area. The town of Monarch, on Monarch pass is a great jumping off point for those interested in the area. Thanks for the great video, and memories.
Thank you so much for the thought out comment and for sharing your memories. Bringing back memories is the thing I like the most about making TH-cam videos. I am pleased to have helped, in this case 😊. My wife and I are excited to be planning a ride through tin-cup pass (next spring). If you are interested in horseback riding, I recommend the abandoned railway (north of town). Thanks again for commenting and best wishes!
Thank you. I enjoyed stepping back in time with you. Also I'd love to live there with my boyfriend. I'm sure we'd have to live off the land and cut firewood, grow food, etc for winter but hey, I've always wanted to live off grid. This seems the best place to do so.
I am so glad you enjoyed the video. And it sounds like you’re inspired to live off the grid too! ☺️St. Elmo would be an ideal setting. Best wishes and thank you for watching!
To my knowledge yes, it was an out post for reporting on and responding to forest fires. On a side note, thank you for your service. I appreciate all that you do. Best wishes!
I was there in 2002. Two of the historic buildings had been list to fire and historic preservation was going to rebuild. There were several people still living there. The general store was open, and had dozens of hummingbird feeders hanging out front. Hummingbirds were everywhere! We shopped for souvenirs there. There was also an antique shop at one of the old houses that had a wealth of treasures! So sad to see it has not been as well kept up and preserved as it was in 2002.
Thank you so much for watching and sharing your memories. The post-fire rebuild continues to this day; however, the town hall was not salvageable. The antique shop is now a seasonal bed and breakfast (I highly recommend it). And the general store / souvenirs shop still opens through spring and summer. It is now considered one of the most well preserved ghost-towns in the United States. This is largely attributed to the dedication of the Stark family and the Buena Vista Historical society. Thanks again and all the best!
It is so sad that no one cared enough to save some of these towns or at least a few buildings for teaching American history,to visit and take family photos, picnics ,anything, its happening here in TN,two beautiful old sm. homes from the 20s or 30s were just torn down,it made us so sick.
I've been obsessed with the old West since I was 5. Being in these old towns makes me feel at home, so if reincarnation is real, I was definitely there in the 1800s lol. Either way I feel like I missed my time. Rough living or not
Know the town well STAYED there over 45 years ago.in my 20s loved that area.also headto tin cup Winter snow machines.id take the town.refurbish it.beautiful spot.thanks for the memory. .
THANK you for the memories. LOVE THAT TOWN.I LOVED WHEN I STAYED THERE 45 YEARS AGO.BEAUTIFUL PLACE.ALSO GOOD TROUT FISHING.AND GOOD GOLD PANNING..IF I HAD THAT TOWN .NO DOUBT ID. Always wanted to go here, haven’t yet though. It would be fun to explore with friends. I have driven by Pitcher, Oklahoma a few times, going through it. It was a sight to see so I’m excited for when I come here!
It is worth the drive. And if you go during the summer time, you will find welcoming people in the general store. If you’re into camping, there’s a good campground not too far. We hope to host to here in Colorado and in the meantime, all the best!
@@DerelictDoug Maybe, but I don’t live very close to it. So I might stop by at Pitcher instead. I drive by there a lot so maybe I’ll stop by next time.
Thanks for sharing. Spent a lot of time in the backcountry off Tincup and Collegiate Peaks, when I lived in CO in the 1990s. Your tour through St. Elmo brought back some memories. Thanks again!
WOW!!! What an amazing step back in time!! I LOVE this!!! What a fun and interesting trip this must’ve been for you guys! Your videos are reminding me just how much I like learning about history! Superb video....superb editing! Onward and upward! 😊 Oh, and I just love your family’s dog also!! Beautiful. ✌️
It really was a great trip. And the folks who live there; all three of them, are shockingly nice and welcoming. Our dog; Lilly, loves getting out in to the backcountry. She’s my best-bud and tags along on most shoots. (I love sprinkling Easter eggs like that in the videos). Thank so very much for the kind words and support 🙏🏻. It means a lot to me.
My son used to live in Denver we used to camp in that area! We have been there numerous times! The elevation is taxing for someone in my late 60s! Great place to visit ! I did see numerous residents when we were there!
You certainly caught a strange image their buddy at 12.40. Somethings just have no explanation. Great upload. All the best from Ackworth, West Yorks, England, Gr.Britain
Howdy! I honestly appreciate you watching and taking a moment to comment. I can't rightly explain the image in the window. It is an interesting piece of footage to me.
I have personally been to St. Elmo several times while I lived in Colorado Springs back in 2008 - 2011. I even have a photograph of the building that people say they saw a "boy" in the window. In my photo there was no "boy" or any other person in the window. I did see something in the window of the video - just not sure what it was. According to the book "Ghost Towns of the Colorado Rockies" written by Robert L. Brown, "St. Elmo is THE best preserved ghost town in the entire state of Colorado".
I am really glad the you got to visit it first hand. Did you have a moment to visit the chipmunks? It is most certainly the best preserved Rocky Mountain ghost town. Largely thanks to the stark family in the Buena Vista historical Society. Thanks so much for your comment and for sharing your experiences. All the best!
Thank you very much for joining us! This place is a true gem. I bet you would have a field day investigating this place. You should look in to the story of "Annabelle Stark" in St. Elmo. They say she still walks the street with her shotgun and is preventing trespassing to this day.
Derelict Doug I’d give anything to spend a night in that town! I only got to tour it for an hour (and fed a lot of chipmunks), but I just loved every second of it!
The name Mary Murphy up at the mine as I recall came from a nurse down in Denver who helped the mine owner when he had to go down there for some kind of medical procedure and he decided to name the mine after her when he got back to work....
Thank you for these kind words. It means a lot to me that you appreciate history as well. I truly enjoy doing the research and getting out there. Thanks again :0)
Been here many times and other surrounding cool places. We found a very old cemetery behind St. Elmo. a ways off the road. Was full of graves of the victims of the Spanish Flu. Lots of babies and children many from the same household. Some died days apart, some were weeks. All the little Lambs and Angels on the headstones made me tear up. But the chipmunk adventure is a must. They crawl all over you to get the snacks you can purchase outside the general store. In the summer the HUMMING BIRDS are everywhere along the walkways as they have feeders everywhere. Ruby throated emerald green beauties. Wonderful photo ops! If you get to Chaffee County you really should check out St. Elmo. And Turret which is above Salida up Ute Trail
The chipmunks are my personal favorite. I was disappointed that during this visit a thunderstorm was threatening to roll in. Because of this we had no chipmunks to film, only a few brave squirrels. Next time, I will need to make it up to St. Elmo on a sunny day. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences of St. Elmo and all the best!
@@DerelictDoug Aww you're so welcome. I lived in Salida for 12 years and whenever visitors came I always took them there..:) We did fishing on Bunny Lane just past Mount Princeton Hot Springs at a pond where all the domesticated rabbits ran free. Bring a Walmart bag of grapes and baby carrots and they would come out everywhere as soon as they heard the bags rattle! I recently heard they set traps and removed them. It was crazy because they weren't hurting anything. I don't think the summer vacation rental people were happy about people going there to feed them. But who could resist? They let you pet and love them. Someone started them with 2 rabbits that quickly spread to several dozen or a hundred, lol..:)) Such is life!
Very interesting story and town which stood many years for the mines. There is quite a bit more left in the Ghost Town then in others. Thanks for sharing.
We owned 2 acres on Princeton Plateau for years. Finally decided it was too tough to live there and sold it. Go over the pass to Tin Cup to see another awesome Ghost Town.
It sounds like an adventure! Thanks for sharing your experiences. I am look forward to doing Tim Cup, just need a better 4x4. But it’s most certainly on the list. Thanks again!
WOW AT 5.36 IS COOL THEY HAVE POWER LINES AND POLES SO LOOKS LIKE AT SOMETIME THEY HAVE ELECTRICITY! SOME OF THOSE BUILDINGS LOOK WELL MAINTAINED WITH GOOD ROOFS AND PAINT!
It is very well maintained, in-fact it's the most well maintain ghost town in the US. Some buildings do have modern wiring and electrical outlets. It is a great place to visit.
That was a great visit/ video! I love taking trips through the mountains from my chair. :-) Bless technology. . I also love looking at old stuff. Thanx to whoever cleaned this town up and made it a worthy visit.
I live in a mining town un Lovelock, Nevada. I live in the old National Bank Building built inb1900. Yes it's true. They used newspaper for insulation. But if they wanted to be fancy, they'd put sand and/or dirt in between rhe walls with the newspaper...
I'm glad you enjoyed it! It really is nice and quiet most of the year except for July/August when a lot of people like to come and off-road in the area. I've been meaning to get back out there and do a newer video, it is one of my favorite ghost towns to visit. I hope you got to check out the chipmunk crossing area as well haha :0)
Unlike Brent Underwood and Cerro Gordo, CA I think St. Elmo would be a better situation. It's mines may not be working these days, but to run it as a living history museum would be nice. The other good thing is that it has a steady source of water compared to the town of Cerro Gordo.
Thank you for the chance to see some of these fascinating locations. I always wanted to travel the West but never had the money to do so. Now retired, I know I will never be able to, so that's why I love watching these kinds of videos.
I am so very pleased to be able to help you, in some small way; to see the west. I look forward to sharing more video soon. All the best and thank you for watching!
It's not quite that cold at 10k, but not too far from places that feel that way. (if you are higher than 14,000 you only have two seasons.) Thank you for watching and commenting. Best Wishes!
Glad to see you're back & still around. I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work. Hope you can get out more videos for 2021. Good luck. Oops, just noticed that this video was posted 2 yrs ago.
Thank you for watching and posting this comment. I promise we have many destinations planned for 2021. We just came back from an adventure around Alamosa over the weekend. Video to come soon. Stay tuned!
I completely love it here, especially colorado. You can do it too! I know it's not easy, but when there is a will there is away. If you are interested, the citizenship process is started here: www.uscis.gov Thanks again and all the best!
I love that kind of history, being able to go back in time and actually see and touch the things that they had and see the way that they had to live back then. I've always wanted a real log home built like they did back then. You know, the way I see it is that all of the people who lived back then, all of our ancestors and people that we don't even know went through so many struggles and hardships and hard work and they also paved the way for the next generation and then it continues to the next and next and so on. Now the world has changed so much. Too much violence and too anger and way too much drugs and guns. We need less of all of that and caring and loving and Most Of All We NEED GOD in our lives. Stop the violence and the drugs and the guns and knives. Stop The Killings!!!
Thank you kindly for the well thought out comment. I think of these places as living history. I can't drive around Colorado without feeling grateful for our settlers and our ancestors. The amount of bravery and can-do attitude they had is unheard of today. It's truly humbling. Thank you for watching and best wishes!
I'm not the religious type, but I absolutely believe in everything else you said. Growing up in Utah though, I think it's smart to have a gun on you if you're going to be heading into bear or mountain lion territory. Other than that, I live for this environment.
Guns are only tools. they were sold in HARDWAREstores, that's why they were called "hardware" a few generations ago. They are not dangerous. ASSHOLES who use them wrong are the problem, you have been brainwashed since you were a child by the news media,no surprise to me or any other person with common sense and a proper education, And I do not mean "college" .
That's fair. For me it's winter at that altitude, not so much the altitude itself. Thanks so much for joining and for sharing your thoughts. Stay safe and all the best!
This is a very good video! St. Elmo is one of my most favorite places on earth. I've been here many times. While my children were young. The Mary Murphy mine is only a short distance from St. Elmo. Also the Alpine Tunnel. Further up there's a restaurant in the middle of nowhere. Lots of mountain 4 wheeling. Lot's
Part 2 Lots of fantastic trout fishing. The first time I took my family up to St. Elmo we found a pair of children's shoes sitting on a table. They had hundreds of tiny nails around the soil. They were period correct. My daughter wanted to take them home. But l told her to leave them here for every one to see. But a year later they were gone. It really bothered me to think that someone could be so selfish and self centered. On your way up to St. Elmo. Watch for mountain goats on your right as you pass by mount Princeton. Another fantastic place we love is the Mount Princeton Hot springs. Last time we were there most of it was still original to the mining days. The miners would go there to clean up after a long day of hard mining. You could go down to the river and sit in one of the hot spring pools. One time a trout jumped into one of the many hot springs with a lady enjoying herself. The trout instantly died because of the change in temperatures. She got to keep the trout. But now everything has been modernized. It's just not the same anymore. You can no longer enjoy the hot springs in the It's probably because of all the liability today. I still love
I need to go up there...I'ts only 360 miles from where I am now...but winter aproacheth! I have been wanting to explore that area for some time now. I believe you just bumped up the schedule...lol. I am in a camper and travel constantly. I should contact the Stark family and see if there are any needs for caretakers, maint. people, clerks, etc...Thanks Derelict Doug!
What a dream! We hope someday to travel constantly as well. If you do make the trip, there’s a great campsite in Pike National Forest. It’s not too far from the townsite. If you have a pull-behind vehicle, you can easily make it to St. Elmo from the campsite. Happy and safe travels, all the best!
@@DerelictDoug It is a dream!... I do have to work though...no monthly check for me. So I try to line up seasonal jobs places I want to visit. It's worked well so far..3 years. It's a truck camper, by the way Been enjoying your videos!
Gypsydanger I hear you there, we all have to work (Well most of us do). But it sounds like you’re doing more than most. It takes a lot of bravery to do what you’re doing. If I hear of any good seasonal work out that way, I’ll be sure to circle back on this comment. Thanks again for watching!
In the dark of night, that would be a scarey place. Did see the person in the upper window so there is someone there overseeing?? Hold that camera steady....easy for me to say.......loved the vlog....thanks so much. Another place only YOU have taken me to....
Thankfully the Stark family still oversees much of the land. Thanks for the feedback and thank you for watching! I hope to bring more videos like this soon.
Love the History lesson . Thanks. Our younger generation should watch your program maybe they would learn something besides play all their games on their phones. Thanks again
My great grandfather was the first post master of Hancock above St Elmo. We still own the Little Jesse mine. Below the MM mine. Did you see the mule hoof in the tree?
This video shows us there's still "gold" in St. Elmo---for _model railroaders._ The place reminds me of photos in Beebe and Clegg's "Narrow Gauge in the Rockies." *(PS* There are still windows, doors, and other architectural details available in the form of Grandt Line parts in HO, S, and O scales on ebay.)
@@DerelictDoug My ears perked up when you mentioned the "South Park" narrow gauge railway. The little 3' gauge railroads linked a LOT of Colorado mining towns together, even killing some by bypassing them. Others simply picked up and moved over next to the tracks, it was that important. I'm very fond of videos of explorations, so I was happy to find yours. Be careful out there!
I’m saddened to hear that. I understand a few members of the Starks have left town which I imagine leaves them shorthanded. Thanks for the update and all the best!
Hi Doug. Do you know if any of these old towns are for sale? And what kind of infrastructure do they have (roads, water, sewage, power, water drainage etc). Thanks in advance.
I found this site to be fairly helpful to answering some of your questions, it will lead you to some real estate sites that list abandoned properties...: www.loveproperty.com/ Let me know if it helps and if I can help you more! Thanks for your support :0)
This place should be turned into a working museum ! Just restore the buildings in there original grander ! I would love to live and work there if it ever comes to be a working museum !
The good news is, that’s what they’re planning to do! The stark family and the Buena Vista Historical Society is hard at work. To some degree it’s already become a museum, but they’re making improvements. Thank you for commenting and watching. Best wishes!
Your welcome ! That is great news maybe some day I can get back out that way and check it out ! Thank you for letting me know about there future of the place ! I just hope that they ruin it like someone did with Cripple Creek by putting casino or casinos in ! I have to Cripple Creek way before that happened . I love the feel and air about it !
Historic St. Elmo is the organization that is responsible for much of the preservation work that has occurred in town. BV Heritage rebuilt the Town Hall and stabilized the school house and kindly transferred the care of those buildings to HSE ten years ago. Would love to talk to the gentleman who knew the Jones family.
You should look in to "Silverton Colorado". It's similar to St. Elmo; however, it has property for sale. Most of the homes are a very good price. Thank you for joining us and best wishes!
Part 3 You can no longer enjoy the hot springs in the river pools. It's probably because of all the liability today. Even though so much has changed since we first discovered St. Elmo and the hot springs. I still love it! I still have all my good memories of how it was back in the day when we first discovered the Mt. Princeton Hot springs and St. Elmo. All of St. Elmo's buildings are privately owned. So be respectful. They are not for anyone to do their there own explorations. The store is also privately owned. You can rent a cabin from them. And you can buy ghost poop in the store. I have read all the past comments. Many are written about the face staring out of the second story window. I was told by a resident that the apparition is due to a woman that killed herself up there. If you plan on visiting the area. Buena Vista has everything you need for a fantastic Colorado vacation. It's only a few miles from Leadville. Which is a Wild West mining town at it's finest. So much to see and do. But not enough time to do it all.
It certainly has its holes. Honestly it’s not as bad as some other places I’ve seen. Some spots the water is orange from the mine runoff. Thanks for watching and commenting. best wishes!

I can’t be the only person that saw the boy in the 2nd floor window
White trim on his hat & his collar, going down his right shoulder.........
I saw it too some say it’s the ghost Annabelle Stark.
Omg I just noticed! Kinda cool but creepy at the same time.

Beautiful place! Loved the green horseshoe wallpaper in one house. Colorado mining history is so fascinating.
I completely agree they really are fascinating. Thank you so much for watching and all the best!
I'd love to live there,what a Beautiful place !
It really is beautiful. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and all the best.
Needed a flashlight to light up those back of those houses.
Especially the one with the carriage in the house.
Good point. This was a little earlier for me, and I didn’t yet carry a flashlight in my kit. But thank you for the feedback and noted. Best wishes!
It is so sad that no one cared enough to save some of these towns or at least a few buildings for teaching American history,to visit and take family photos, picnics ,anything, its happening here in TN,two beautiful old sm. homes from the 20s or 30s were just torn down,it made us so sick.
That is such a shame and becoming increasingly common. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for watching. All the best!
Fabulous!!! One or two of those houses, I would gladly live in😊
I've been obsessed with the old West since I was 5. Being in these old towns makes me feel at home, so if reincarnation is real, I was definitely there in the 1800s lol. Either way I feel like I missed my time. Rough living or not
I completely understand where you are coming from. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. All the best!
Wow what an awesome looking place! Colorado is truly beautiful
Thank you kindly, I tend to agree, thanks for joining us and all the best!
Easy name to recall. The film by the same name was one of my favorites growing up.
That is a good film! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and all the best!
This place is right up my alley. Like how you have all the history narration over it. Such cool stuff
Much appreciated! Let me know if you ever make it out this way. I'd be happy to tour you through it.
@@DerelictDoug you're based in Colorado?

You are very welcome and thank you for joining us! It sounds like you have experiences in ghost town living, that is amazing. Especially the fact that you stayed in a teepee and gold-panned.
Thank you for sharing your experiences and thanks again for joining us and all the best!
I am so very glad to have brought back good memories! Thank you for sharing your experiences at St. Elmo. Please be safe and stay well!
Another excellent piece of American history. Thanks a lot, Colin UK.
You’re very welcome I hope to have more for you soon
I’ve been here. It’s an awesome place to walk around and just take it all in. Would love to go back
It's cliche, but the place is haunting. It's called me back twice. Thanks for watching✌️💙
So well done! I absolutely love this place! Great video! ✌️
Beautifully done. I really enjoyed this trip back in time, thank you!
I really appreciate the kind words. Thank you for watching and best wishes!
The name Mary Murphy up at the mine as I recall came from a nurse down in Denver who helped the mine owner when he had to go down there for some kind of medical procedure and he decided to name the mine after her when he got back to work....
Thank you for that fascinating tidbit! I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts and all the best!
Saw the boy! Gave me chills! Was there in 2017. Very cool
It really is something amazing. thanks for sharing your experience and all the best!
Awesome work thanks for preserving history. Keep up the presentation of history
I’m glad you enjoyed and thank you kindly for watching! St. Elmo is a real gem
It is a great place to visit.
so nice to see those old building in such good condition
I completely agree, it’s all thanks to the dedication of the Stark family. Thanks again for joining us and have a great day!
My son and I spent some high country camping near the town.pretty much complete.people do live there, respect there home's
Yes. And the rental property must be respected. Thanks for watching!
Great job. Thanks for sharing. Very informative and interesting. Like how you all arranged this video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very interesting I love visiting historical places I’m from the UK and I am fascinated by your history in America
I am so very please you liked it. I am fascinated by history of all types. Thanks for watching ✌️💙
Thanks for contributing your thoughts and knowledge and thank you for watching. Best wishes!
It's really interesting to hear, watch, and read about all this.
What a lovely, calming video to watch !!!!!
A small derelict town in a world with some many folks with derelict lives !!!,,,,,,,, ME INCLUDED !!
Thank you for watching 🙏
Watching these vids remind of the show Hell on Wheels...I can see people of the past roaming around so clearly.
Me too! I can always visualize what was, in a place like St. Elmo. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for stopping by. All the best!
Beautiful pkace ...i hope more people moved there and make it alive again....maybe thru social media they will know abiut this area....
Me too! People are starting to move in to the surrounding area, but the town center is privately owned.
Just visited it. In the winter during the week it is really quiet. Thank you for the information about the town.
A very best video,one to cherish in memory,if can't move there😉
Thank you so very much! I am so happy you enjoyed the video and the town. Best wishes!
All the best to you 😉
Unlike Brent Underwood and Cerro Gordo, CA I think St.
All the best and thank you for watching!
at almost 10,000 feet; so this area has two seasons: a three week summer, AS SHOWN, and then snow and winter.
It's not quite that cold at 10k, but not too far from places that feel that way. (if you are higher than 14,000 you only have two seasons.) Thank you for watching and commenting. Best Wishes!
Fascinating exploration
Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed and thank you for joining us. Stay safe!
Stay tuned!
That lightning at the end was out of hand. Good call getting out of there
Agreed! Thanks for watching and joining tonight’s premier!
Just rewatched and still Love this video!
Seems so peaceful and enjoyable.
It is extremely peaceful. Almost otherworldly. Thanks for watching and all the best!
i wish i was usa citisen , colorado should be my place to live .i am in love with this country ,

Absolutely beautiful
Agreed. Thanks for joining us and all the best!
What a fantastic video! I LOVE history!!
Stop
The Killings!!!
On my bucket list now....thanks I love the video
I am very glad you liked it and hope you can visit. Thanks for watching!
There's reports the town is for sale, but I don't want a whole town. It would be nice to see what a house or store would go for.
Great job! Beautiful buildings!
Thank you kindly! And thank you for watching. All the best!
What a beautiful place. I love camping in that area. But I'm not tough enough to live at 10,000 ft year round!! I'm good at 6035 ft.
That's fair. For me it's winter at that altitude, not so much the altitude itself. Thanks so much for joining and for sharing your thoughts. Stay safe and all the best!
New to channel. Sweet old ghost town. I think i found me a good place to live. Great video. 👍😊
I am very happy you like my content! I honestly appreciate you watching and commenting. Thank you!
Lot's
Part 2
Lots of fantastic trout fishing.
Thank you so much for sharing your memories of Saint Elmo. Also, thanks for watching it all the best!
Wow at least now we know how the fires started that was some close lightning
Very good point. Thanks so much for joining us and all the best!
awesome explore as always so creative and really well put together!
Thank you kindly 🙏🏻. This place was truly something in its day.
Thanks for the informative video!
I am so very glad that you enjoyed. Thank you for watching and all the best!
It's a truck camper, by the way
Been enjoying your videos!
@@DerelictDoug Thanks, Doug, I appreciate that.
Loved it...thank you.
I am thrilled that you loved it. And thank you for the kind words. All the best!
i just saw the little boy in the window? weird but cool at the same time
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it :0)
In the dark of night, that would be a scarey place.
I really appreciate your kind words and can understand your concerns. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching. All the best!
It would be remarkable if a small town and community could be made there again.
It is beginning to come back! They have rental property all around the area and it’s filling up! Thanks for watch and commenting. Best wishes!
My great grandfather was the first post master of
Hancock above St Elmo. We still own the Little Jesse mine. Below the MM mine. Did you see the mule hoof in the tree?
I missed that, but would have loved to see it.
Tony Stark? I suppose it makes sense, that Iron Man would come from a mining town.
Hahaha, I suppose that does make sense. Thanks for the laugh and all the best!
I never consider this as an inspiration to Model railroaders, but I am glad to have helped in some small way. Thanks for watching and all the best!
I go there every few years. Sadly it’s gotten worse. We should preserve this town to remember American heritage..
I’m saddened to hear that. I understand a few members of the Starks have left town which I imagine leaves them shorthanded. Thanks for the update and all the best!
I would love to connect with the gentleman that knew the Jones family and I believe stayed in a cabin on the other side of the creek. Thank you.
That would be cool. I will be sure to ask around. All the best!
Hi Doug. Do you know if any of these old towns are for sale? And what kind of infrastructure do they have (roads, water, sewage, power, water drainage etc). Thanks in advance.
I found this site to be fairly helpful to answering some of your questions, it will lead you to some real estate sites that list abandoned properties...: www.loveproperty.com/
Let me know if it helps and if I can help you more! Thanks for your support :0)
@@DerelictDoug Thank you.
Doug, Interesting thank you for sharing.

Maybe some day St Elmo can have more people living there again
I actually heard it’s coming back, there’s some rental properties in the area and they are filling up. Thanks for watching, and thanks for commenting
Just perfect
Thank you kindly 🙏
Man I would love to live there
I'm looking a for nice little home with a little land with it to live out my days
You should look in to "Silverton Colorado". It's similar to St. Elmo; however, it has property for sale. Most of the homes are a very good price.
Thank you for joining us and best wishes!
I want to move there✌🏼
Completely Agreed. Thank you for watching and commenting. Best wishes!
Part 3
You can no longer enjoy the hot springs in the river pools. It's probably because of all the liability today. Even though so much has changed since we first discovered St. Elmo and the hot springs. I still love it! I still have all my good memories of how it was back in the day when we first discovered the
Mt.
The Addams Family and The Munsters would love to had a Vacation here
They have a vacation villa on the hill 😉
The hillsides must be pocked with mines. The hills all hollowed out.
It certainly has its holes. Honestly it’s not as bad as some other places I’ve seen. Some spots the water is orange from the mine runoff. Thanks for watching and commenting. best wishes!
i like you tell a good story and very good cam work
Thank you kindly sir🙏🏻 much appreciated. And thanks for watching! I’ll have a new one out soon. Best wishes!
