He was his mentor. Reggie cannot get all his shots without knowing how to score and move without the basketball like Bird did in his playing days. Bird taught Reggie on how to move without the b-ball and get open.

1998-2000 was Reggie's best years as a pro under the titulage of Larry Legend. 1998 he took the Bulls into 7 game classic ECF and 2000 Reggie made his one and only Finals appearance.

Back in the ‘80’s, Bird got no respect from fans outside of Boston, I’d really say he was unappreciated in his time. But thanks to TH-cam clips and interviews, you really get to look back and see how damn good Bird was! Living in Milwaukee, I used to hate getting to the playoffs year in and year out during the ‘80’s just to see Bird knock us out! Looking back now, I think Larry Bird might be the greatest shooter to ever play the game, he’s certainly the greatest clutch shot player in the history of the game. No one made more last second shots to beat teams than Larry Bird! As Brent Musburger put it, “In the last 24 seconds of a game, Larry Bird is a stone cold assassin”.

MWolverine1969 I understand what you’re saying, and I wasn’t alive in those times, so maybe if you were, you felt that era so you have better knowledge about it than me, but I think you might be mistaken. Other cities HATED him. Couldn’t stand him. They knew he was standing in between their team and a win. They feared him and channeled it in the only way they knew how

It’s great to hear humbleness from two hall of famers.
That’s how Tom Brady has always talked to the media. Being so humble is a sign of greatness.
    That’s what today’s guys lack.
Instead of humbleness, King James actually proclaimed himself the GOAT.
LeChoke isn’t even the best small forward ever, that distinction belongs to Larry Bird.... So how could he POSSIBLY be better than Jordan?
King’s come and go, legends never die.
That’s why 30 years later, people still get giddy talking about one of the hundreds of legends of Larry Bird.

      LeBron is better?
You have obviously NEVER seen Larry play.
Larry would average 40+/game in today’s watered down, no hand-checking, call EVERY foul possible league.
Larry didn’t hafta go to different teams with already established All Stars to win, he made the good players on his team great.
Larry had to fight through the Pistons, Bulls, TONS of teams to make it to the finals to face LA, LeBron cakewalked every single year to the finals in a waterered down Eastern Conference, where 8-9 out of the top 10 teams in the entire league were out West.
LeBron is a shitty leader, Larry thrived being a leader and leading by example. Diving on the floor and into the crowd for loose balls. LeBron chokes in big moments, where Larry hoped for them.
Larry used to tell defenders exactly what he was gonna do, and they STILL couldnt stop them.
Great players are praised by other greats, not themselves. NEVER do you hear Larry Bird proclaim, “i am the greatest ever”. Modesty and humbleness are a natural quality of the best, they dont need to say it, their play speaks for itself.
“If i had to choose one player to take a shot to win a game, Id take Michael Jordan. if i had to choose one pkayer to take a shot to save my life, I’d choose Larry Bird.”
      -Pat Riley
      Chew on that. Bitch.

Alan J lebron is a much better athlete than anyone back then everyone now is stronger, faster, quicker. Being Physical is how the sport is bird is too slow and not strong enough he would be a glorified Kyle Korver who can pass and rebound. Lebron would easily average 40 points in the 80s, Bird could never average 40 points in the league now he’s too slow , not strong enough , and could never cover a wing player in the nba today.

Being physical is how the sport is?
      Oh really?
You mean how Harden flops 10 times a game to 20 pts/game just on free throws alone?
You mean how if you come within 3 feet of LeBitch he makes that “im gonn cry” face and pleass to the ref for a foul call?
Go watch Robert Parrish overhead two-hand club Laimbeer in the face, and recieve merely a double tech, and tell me the game is more physical now.
Go watch Larry and Dr. J. grabbing eachothers throat, then watch Harden’s patented step back flop and tell me the game is more physical now.
      Bullshit.
Bird would EASILY average 40/game, wirh 20 coming just from the line alone!

@cody patrick- just to let you know, Bird started his career as a PF. He didn't officially become a SF until McHale became a starter. Cornbread Maxwell was the Celtics starting SF. Bird was a beast in the low post. Check out videos of his low post moves. For someone that is constantly called "slow", he had an exceptionally quick first step. He also could fake you out of your jock strap.. LeBron is a great player and he has eclipsed Bird in many categories, but it is because of longevity. Bird was a better shooter and better rebounder and is the only forward in the history of the NBA to average 20+ points/10 rebounds/6+ assists for his career, but most of all Bird came into the league as a leader and better yet, a winner....

If we are talking in the post, mid- range, 3 point, free throw line , off balance, trick shots, clutch ,etc whatever I believe Larry Bird is the best all around shooter of all time. Not even close really if you look at the accolades. Won multiple 3 point contests. The dude could shoot anywhere . Tons of buzzer beaters. Steph is a better 3 point shooter and at the free throw line I would say it's a tie.
